It does kind of make the whole thing kind of "popularity contest" rather than based on "greatness". Most of the top list seems to have been crowd pleaser's too.

The one I really don't get is Platinum games... Their biggest title, Bayonetta was ok, but it's not really significant in any way...it didn't even sell very well. You can lots of them up there because of legions of fanboys...but that one is just odd. Guess it's a personal choice (or he knows him).

Yes, people do get kind of weird/defensive about "their" companies; :D

Encyclopedic outlining of the differing points! (though CS:GO didn't come out in 1999, you might want to try that bit again). Of course if you can't perform any form of abstraction...

Ignore all the "presentation" junk and you're doing almost the exact same thing in both games, maybe this "theory" was a little too "advanced"...hmm...:p

Do you even know what CS:GO is? It's a reskinning of CS:Source with new game modes.
Do you know what CS:Source is? It's a reskinning of CS 1.6 in the source engine with game-mode mods that eventually ended up in CS:GO.
Do you know what CS 1.6 is? It's the last iteration of the CS mod for Half-Life.

So, by the transitive law CS = CS 1.6 = CS:Source = CS:GO

CS came out in 1999, CS:GO is the same game, only reskinned, thus your mentioning of "you might want to try that bit again" is invalid, which you know, and is only something you said, because you know your original opinion on CS and CoD is asinine.

But here are some differences:

CS vs CoD
1. No Iron Sights vs. Iron Sights
2. Resource Limited Weapons vs. Non-resource Limited Weapons (read: you need money to use weapons in CS)
3. No Health Regeneration vs. Health Regeneration (this is a huge difference)
4. More drastic Recoil and Kick vs. Minute Recoil and Kick (holding fire is a valid tactic in CoD, not CS)
5. No Respawning vs. Respawning (another game defining difference)


Do I need to go on to point out how the two are different?
 
CS and COD are the same in that they are both multiplayer FPS games. Beyond that, the games are quite different IMO.

The main difference is one is slow (CS) and one is fast (CoD). Oh and people get all anal about CS and don't really notice they're playing CoD in slow motion. :D

In all seriousness I tend to discribe EDGE as the adults game industry magazine. All of their articles are interesting and the quality of the content is superb. Their size and paper quality is top notch aswell.

I used to have every single issue of Next-Generation Magazine back in the late 90's (which was a sister magazine), which is also what my handle is based off of.

Me? Simply put, I stand up against pretty much everything this magazine worships in gaming, and I love the things they despise. I know people that like it very much, for the same you reasons you desribed - mature gamers getting quality content in good packege and all this bs. Pardon my language. They are not in for the gaming imo.

if its going by recently neither of the them should be on the list.

but id has gone way down hill since the early doom days. they just keep releasing shit like like Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Rage.

they need to buck up and release something good or Bethesda needs to lay them all off.

Well they are an adult industry magazine, so I can agree with you that they really don't care for BLOPS2 or Madden.
 
Stop guessing unless you're ready to reveal what I had for lunch. Overall quality is subjective. They don't argue about it for good reasons.
 
i most certainly wouldn't give Valve #1. For creating steam yes, for their games, no.
