Achieva Shimian QH270| $400 IPS 2560x1440 Korean Monitor

I'd personally much rather have the glass inside the bezel, and I own a IPSB with glass outside. The glass outside means reflections from the panel itself and the glass are slightly different so you see two of whatever is reflected. It's very annoying at times. I've considered removing the glass from mine but am concerned I would damage the panel or bezel in the process.

I have to admit that I'm really tempted by the overclockable Catleap multi.

Its a bit of a craps shoot at the moment. I've heard rumors about input lag due to the scaler but I have my doubts about that at native res over DVI. I've also heard rumors about frameskipping when overclocked but no real proof to back that up either. I've also seen a couple of people say that it seems to run fine .

Tempting.

I have only found out about these monitors today, and after seeing the sheer magnitude of this thread, i am very confused. So which is the best model i can get, with least possibility of faults, and would i have to pay any taxes if i live in the UK? the help is much appreciated

$290 for a Catleap sounds pretty darn good. :) Do all Catleap models have a OSD? I thought that was for the monitors with multiple display inputs.

Has anyone used the catleap and the Dell 2412M? I ask because I fell in love with the Dell one day at Microcenter and am trying to decide on which to get. They are similar in price with the Dell at 309.99 and the catleap at 289.99. I have never seen a catleap in person so its hard to make this decision. Would appreciate any suggestions yall can make

Edit: I should also mention, I do not play games. Mainly do lots of work with PDF files, text, images, videos, 1080p movies.

Well if you work with video and graphics, you probably want the Catleap for the simple fact that it's a true 8 bit IPS monitor whereas the Dell is 6 bit IPS.

I own the Dell that you mention and also an old Dell 20 incher that was an 8 bit IPS and really can't tell a difference.

This is really tempting, however I'm wondering if you can mount it to a aftermarket stand like those found on monoprice?
If not that exact monitor any others with the 8bit panel that are similar in price and are of decent quality?

I would not recommend the Catleap if you plan to use an aftermarket stand because accessing the VESA mount requires opening the monitor case (PS Monoprice stands are horrible quality... get an Ergotron) but the Crossover and Shimian variants (same panel, different case) will accept VESA mount hardware without modification.

Good recommendation on the mount.

Thanks for the info on the two alternative monitor choices as well!

My 4 months old Catleap has developed a single dark pixel about 2 inches from the top and 3.5 inches from the right.

Still a great deal even at the 400.00 price I paid.

I have a Dell 2412m as a sidecar to this thing, and this thing beats it hands down for clarity and color (once calibrated). The 2412's AG coating, while not quite as annoying as the 2711's (which I returned to Dell because of it) due to the 2412's relatively large dot pitch, just robs contrast and clarity relative to the AG-less catleap.

I recieved my Catleap today and I'm really impressed with this monitor, colour and picture quality is excellent. I have a Dell U2412 which I thought was good but the AG coating on the Dell ruins it for me. I do a lot of photo editing and the Catleaps colour once calibrated is spot on. The only minor quibble is with the wobbly stand that makes the monitor lean forward and also dips to the RHS but I can over come this. For $300 you can't go wrong mine has no dead or stuck pixels.

Just got the Perfect Pixel-PCBank PB2700 Super and I must say it's excellent. I see no stuck pixels so I'm not sure I'm gonna go looking. There was a funny issue this morning coming out of sleep mode where the screen was showing vertical lines of just color. A quick on and off of the monitor and everything was in order. Played civ on it this weekend and loved it! Look like a good buy really enjoying it. Only downside is my last monitor was 1900 x 1200 and I actually notice the ratio change a bit. Overall very pleased!

The vertical lines might be from the dvi cable. Try to tighten them. I had to buy a cable from monoprice because my cable had occasional problems.

This is a known issue with these -- mine does it occasionally too. It always comes back fine with a power cycle. Probably HDCP handshake related. Nothing to worry about so far as I can tell.

which 1 to buy then?

You will have to be a bit more specific than that. Do you plan on putting it on a different stand? Which one do you think looks the best? etc.

The panels are all the same, so pretty much buy the cheapest one that looks good to you. And if you want to put it on a VESA mount do not buy the Yamakasi Catleap monitor since it is very difficult to mount that way (doable, but hard).

no vesa just regular vga/dvi/hdmi...is anyone with stand up and down or pivot?

There is a Crossover variant with a pivot and height adjustable stand. It is more expensive (generally $350 or so I think?) but that's the one you want.

where can i find all the info about models and why no retailers isn't selling this in europe?

nm found on overlock.net

Hmm... crap.

Took delivery of my crossover today. Seems I have a lot of very faint lines running down the screen. Thinking it was the cable, I tried a spare I had, but although the monitor accepted it, it refused to display anything (and yes, it was a DVI-D cable). I also have periodic flickering on a mostly white screen.

Have another cable ordered and on the way - hope I didn't get a dud, as the screen itself is PERFECT. Agh.

Hmm, that might be it.

The flicker (which really just looked like the brightness was lowering and rising again on a white screen) seems to have stopped now, no idea why but no complaints there.

man these things are blowing up:
which has VESA?
are there any 10bit variants?

Shimian Achieva & CrossOver 27Q have easily accessible VESA.
Yamakasi Catleap - you have to open up to remove the piece of plastic covering the VESA holes.

As far as I know, they are all 8-bit LG panels. The quality of my CrossOver is about on par with my 27" iMac. My Shimian is slightly below them (a couple of dead pixels and issues with 60hz support so I'm running it at 56hz).

2560x1440p IPS that can go 120hz? Find me one that sells for $459 with 1 year warranty by the seller.

10-bit color is advertised with the CROSSOVER-2720MDP-GOLD-LED
which is also $459.90

color > speed for my situation

hmm.. $280 for achieva and ~$350 for crossover standard.. going to hold out a few days and see what happens next
