Freaky Microsoft Piracy Video

After watching this video I have decided that I need to be more careful about piracy and buying genuine Microsoft products.

Thank you Microsoft for this both entertaining and informative film.

Metro UI is M$'s best Anti-Piracy measure to date. Make your OS so shitty to use people won't even want to take the time to pirate it.

This. So this.

Here's a nice way to sum it all up: If you don't want identity theft, have your system compromised, or let your data become corrupted, just don't use anything Microsoft related.
Oh, and don't be a fucking tool.

/thread

straight up scene warezed software doesn't have this problem 99.99999% of the time.
it would be nuked if it did.

just make sure you don't download from shady http sites with shitloads of redirecting links and popups

Oh well, nobody agrees with me that it was an awesome video... but I damn well know we all can agree on the chick at the desk being hot as hell...

at least give me that people....

She, and everyone else in the video looked like they had a 2-watt bulb for a brain.
I don't think 'hot' is the right word for this, more like 'easy'.

I think we have different definitions of hot.... the 2-watt bulb is a plus in my book

I'd definitely legitimately pay for her and not a pirated copy.

What I don't quite understand is why so many workplaces buy MS office. An overwhelming majority of workplaces can get by with just LibreOffice or OpenOffice. It's so much money for something so stupid...

And yea, Metro is going to be their best weapon against piracy.

I dunno, I've tried to use Libre/Open office a few times in my college days, and every time I every tried to do anything remotely advanced, the programs would crap out on me in interesting ways.... inconsistent formatting, broken formulas, stuff plain not working at all, etc....

Granted, I spend my whole day in Excel using every advanced feature you can think of.... so maybe I'm not really the best candidate for those alternatives.....

And no, I'm not an MS zealot, until I got a job, 99% of my daily computer time was in Linux

If you work in an office where documents aren't important then sure. Most businesses have document needs, where documents mean real dollars and Microsoft Office more than pays for itself in that type of environment.

And yea, Metro is going to be their best weapon against piracy.

And yet there will be more pirated versions of Windows 8 than all desktop installs of Linux combine by a factor of 10.

Wow that's a big WTF lol. I don't even get what this video is trying to prove.

I like how companies try to make piracy look like it's the worse thing to happen since Hitler. "Piracy lurks everywhere" And? Their point is? The fact that there's pirated software floating around does not make it a danger for me. If I want to buy legit, I will buy at a store or from the company directly, the fact that there's pirated software lurking around does not harm me in any way shape or form.

That's not at all the point of this video is. The point of the video is if you USE pirated and counterfeit software you put yourself at a greater risk of security and privacy issues and I think that is a very legitimate point.

Has anyone ever known pirated Microsoft software to be more dangerous than non-pirated software?

I thought the video was rather cleaver. Maybe "piracy" in the title was a little misleading...

This is exactly the type of "piracy" MS should be preventing. The video doesn't demonize general P2P usage or the idea of copying, just the risks with using & buying non-legit stuff. It's true in that regard. Even when you're trying to stay legit and buy Office or such for cheap you run into shady sites all the time that seem legit or resell licenses they're not allowed to. And yes I can't count how many times I've run into trojans or virii cleverly packed inside setup runtimes of p2p downloads. Quirky but strangely appropriate vid.

Good, someone who got the video.

Dear Microsoft.

People are working on replacing you with Linux and Libre.

Sincerely, "nobody cares about your piracy".

Windows 8 sucks!

Dear god this.

Microsoft should have stopped at Windows 7. Never told the world Windows 8 was coming, released it, let it die in a few weeks like a bad Hollywood movie and went on to make Windows 9, which is basically Windows 7 SP3.

Obviously none of yall have been overseas, they have markets FULL of counterfit stuff, you can buy ANY program you want for 5$, 2 for 5$ if you sweet talk the guy. And buy movies 3 for 5$, Box Season sets for 10$, and just about anything you can buy in a store you can buy fake. Hell, everything from Blackhawk holsters to Gucci Bags, and everything inbetween. O, and that software? MS is right, LOADED with viruses, trojans, you name it.

MS is right on the money with this. Just because yall havent seen the world doesnt mean it's not out there. Piracy for money is HUGE. Just look at china.

Actually, google up some info on counterfit smokes, you'll freak out.

People can Pirate (or fake for physical items, same idea really) ANYTHING, and it's an epicly large market

Contracts my friend. Contracts.

Hell, we had to buy those little fiber link things that go into a Cisco switch to provide a fiber connection, we had to buy those through Cisco themselves. Do you have any idea how expensive those are? Could of got them on eBay for like 3-5 a piece, you don't wanna know how much we had to pay for them.

Contracts

Bought to you from the 1990's.

Windows 8 sucks so much that on the day of the release of the RTM of Windows 8 it will exceed the number of Linux desktops on Planet Earth. Don't yo wished you sucked like that.;)

No, Windows 8 still sucks.
But that's just my opinion, if you like it, use it.

Ok from now on I'll always check whether there is a person in the xerox. Thank you microsoft.

What? I......what?!

This doesn't even make sense. How does piracy lead to identity theft? The point is that you don't have to pay AT ALL, so how are they going to get your CC information?

And it's more like, please stop making anti-piracy videos period. I guarantee that they do virtually nothing to curb piracy.

Think beyond paying for software. Think of pirated software distributors putting keyloggers into ISOs of an operating system and you install it on your computer.

Yeah, again though I will say that it seems more like this video is saying "be careful not to buy fake software" rather than "don't pirate".

I guess when I saw "piracy" in the title I thought it was going to be more about, well, downloading shit on Bittorrent or something. It's not, really.

I replied before reading the rest of this thread. I saw it's been addressed several times. Sorry for being a broken record!

Now I feel better. I was afraid I was on the only one that thought this was confusing as hell. Imagine if they hadn't even posted titles at the end trying to explain what the hell this was even about?

That video was so stupid it made me dumber for having watched it.

At least the girl was pretty.

I think they forgot to mention that if you sell a product for a reasonable price you really don't need to worry about piracy. Well maybe you do its just that people who are going to pirate are going to and people who don't, don't.

Of course don't forget about those people who like to break software security just for the fun of it.

So the lesson learned from this video is: Never download pre-cracked/activated software.

This is why you download an untouched disc image, verify it with a file hash against the known GM hash, burn and install it yourself, and then install a crack on your own that has been validated by others and/or is open source. :D
