Network pics thread

we always just threw the dell cords in a drawer, all our cables got purchased from someplace else

I am going to price shorter cords, or put new ends on them after shortening them
The Dell cords are always super thick and long (;)) We never use them.

yeah its a real PITA

We replace ours in the DC with Y cables. Cleans things up quite a bit and saves some PDU space.

each PDU is on a different circuit so if the UPS tosses one or a breaker toasts the machines will still be up

Depending on your PDU's this works, but our PDU's have 2 outlets per circuits for about 8 circuits per PDU so I just use short power cords.

A Danish newspaper got it's server room flooded when a water pipe broke,

They are lucky they had a raised floor. It most likely saved the day by giving the water a place to go.

So are ours, one leg of the Y cable feeds one server, the other leg feeds another.

Not a great pic but you can kinda see whats going on. We do the same for our SAN.

Professional routing equipment! :D

Some 'plastic routers' (at least 2 AVM FritzBox) - not exactly what I expected next so stuff like Cisco 10000 monsters or a 6509 with 144 GbE and 24 10GbE ports :D

Haven't been around in awhile (forum got gay), but I thought I'd come post some network porn from the last month.

You mean creating a port based vlan with 1-12+25 and 13-24+26 or is there actually a 'mode'? Never heard this terminology with procurve Oo

Yeah sounds like vlan's, i'm running 5 vlans on my 1800-24g with no problems.

Never heard of split mode either. Probably talking about VLANS.

Wow, if you are selling those where were you last week ?! :p

If the price is right I might still want to pick one or two up from you, if you intend on selling them...

I'm just using the term he said on the phone.

I can use both ports 25 for 1-12 and port 26 for 12 -24 by taking one set and un tagging the other. Basically splitting the switch into 2 half's.

Just bind all the interfaces to a vlan .... you could do any combination of ports you wanted not just a specific block of ports. My switches at work have about 15-20 different vlans configured on each one.

untangle doesn't support vlans

so I have to use both ports 25&26 one per set of ports....

He's not talking about Untangle, he's talking about the switch. He's saying you can assign any port to any VLAN, not just putting half on one and half on another VLAN.

i know that already, as i stated above, I DO THIS currently :)

What's the first thing you do with ~$4500 in 10GbE optics?

Q1: Do you test all of them in the new switch you got?
A1: No

Q2: Do you check the packing slip to make sure they all arrived?
A2: Hell No

Q3: Do you arrange them on top of a VDX 6720 in the shape of the HardOCP symbol?
A3: YES

It would have been like ~$12K in 10GbE optics if they were actually from Brocade, but we decided to take the plunge with third party optics on this one.

And yes, before anyone asks, my short a$$ had to stand on a ladder to get a proper pic.

You deserve an extra large cake for this one. :p
