When big name douchebaggery gets out of hand

Yeah once Penny Arcade and Kotaku picked this shit up he should have shut the fuck up and fell back into the shadows...I know people here don't like Kotaku, and I don't blame you...but theres no denying that they are a juggernaut in the online gaming world and Paul has burried himself.
 
I don't dislike Kotaku, there's just rarely any content there that interests me, mainly just excessive amount of Japanese gaming content, cosplay, and console news in general.

Today is an exception though :p. I think this tops the DNF PR guy fiasco by a mile.

Apparently he is capable of forming semi-coherent, grammatically correct sentences.

I’m not asking for any sympathy just for some understanding and forgiveness , I’m human just like everyone else and made a mistake. I underestimated you and its cost me a lot of trouble thousands of spam emails , a lot of personal bashing , and internet spam and trouble and just overall stress with my wife and newborn. I ask that you please accept my apology as a peace offering I will refund your money and give you your 2 units/Avengers free of charge please help me to get some of this negativity removed or at least my personal name although its already all over the internet and the calls and emails will not stop but any help will be appreciated especially with penny arcade as Mike and edit his own website I owe him an apology too which I will write next.

That apology is such BS. Look, you don't just turn into a name-dropping douchebag overnight. That kind of response, to me, shows a hell of a lot of insight into your personality and character, and I can't imagine this is an isolated case.

It's not. The previous customer was just less proactive about sicking the Internet on him.

If anything, this guy seems exceedingly ill-suited for PR / marketing work. Way too many opportunities for people to get under your skin. I hope for his newborn's sake (assuming that's not another lie), that he stops with the steroid rage.

The newborn part was at least true, his facebook was visible for a while last night, and he does a cute little baby. That said, as another poster here commented, that type of personality doesn't manifest overnight.

I feel for the guy as a parent of a recently up-until-now very difficult little girl, but blaming that type of outburst and crazy shit on a baby, well, come on dude. I was grouchy and sleep deprived for a good two months off and on, but I never went batshit loco.

Isn't that pretty much classic bully behavior? Tough to the little guy, but as soon as someone bigger shows up they fold and slink away? I can imagine he's been having a bad day, considering how many readers Kotaku and Penny Arcade get every day. You'd hope he'd learn from this, but I guess that's a long shot.

Keep in mind Ocean Marketing is a third party PR firm hired by N-Control (the creators of the Avenger controller) Don't hate on the controller, hate on the marketer.
 
N-Control is getting a lot of exposure with this, and hoepfully not much of the bad PR, as it will all be concentrated on this Ocean Marketing company... i'm sure they're not too upset at all!

The PR guy's terrible attitude reflects badly on N-Control and is beyond their control, but the supplier issues are another story.

This would be totally different if he just said he is sorry, he is wrong, is stepping down and will seek counselling on his behavior. As soon as he started making excuses, he is taking blame away from the fact that he is an asshole at heart.

How do I go about donating some $$ to Penny Arcade for sticking up for one of us.
We need more of this , the industry should fear us not the other way around.

For BF3 release, My friend and I went to the release. My friend had pre-ordered his game 3 months in advance. I purchased it from the same place which was doing the mid nite release ,2 weeks before release.

At the release my friend was told by game stop that he was to go to the original Game stop he purchased from to get a ticket. Ofcourse 3 months ago no one ever told him.
So here we are I'm going to get my game but he cant and mind you he has his reciept.

So I go into the store and purchase a new copy for him since I felt so bad.
I told him dont worry , he can go get his money back or get another game with his reciept.
So here we are in-line they call him 1st and Im stading right behind him.
The Game-Stop sales guy gives him 2 copys because he saw 2 orders under his name.
Of course he was only to get 1 since he didnt have his ticket. We didnt say anything ofcourse and he walked out with 2 BF3 copies. The next day he went with his reciept to the original game stop and they gave him the $ back after explaining what had happend. The 2nd copy he sold to a co-worker.
If Gamestop would have gave him 2 copys and never had the issue with the ticket then we would of gave back the extra game.

What goes around , comes around.

I think there is a big difference between being sorry and being sorry you got caught. I have a real problem with bullies. I spent my childhood moving from school to school and I got made fun of everyplace I landed. I feel like Paul is a bully and maybe that’s why I have no sympathy here. Someday every bully meets and even bigger bully and maybe that’s me in this case. It’s the same thing that happened with Jack Thompson. It might not always make the most business sense and it is a policy that has caused us some legal problems, but I really don’t give a shit about that. When these assholes threaten me or Penny Arcade I just laugh. I will personally burn everything I’ve made to the fucking ground if I think I can catch them in the flames.

Kinda confirms Mikes suspicions that the guy is a bully. All high and mighty until one meets a bigger one, which just happened to be the internetz in this case.

Hearing him dance and try to redirect blame is pretty entertaining:

"I didn't know who that guy at Penny Arcade was," he admitted. "If I had known, I would have treated the situation a little better. PAX is a great show. What he does is what I've been idolizing since I was a kid. It's admirable he's put that together. He has a lot of connections, ones I want too."

Yet while admitting he handled things badly, Christoforo said he also felt the situation could have been different if Krahulik approached the situation differently.

"He called me a bully, but he was being a bully ... especially when he emailed me out of the blue, saying 'That's f***ing s***ty, you're banned from PAX,' I was like 'Who the f*** are you? That's how you introduce yourself? ... I dont want to call him out, but he could have gone about that a totally different way, he could have said, 'Hey, I run the show, that email was a little unprofessional, if you don't do something to apologize I don't want you at my show.' But he just came at me and said, indirectly, 'Hey, f*** you, you're banned from PAX.' Is that what you'd call professional? I wouldn't."

The dude is a fucking moron and trying to push the blame away from his own actions and it just makes it worse for him instead of helping his situation.

All he had to say was "I did the wrong thing, I should never have spoken to Dave (the customer) in that way and I apologise to Dave, Mike and the company I was representing for my unwarranted outburst" and he would have been fine. He still would have gotten some bad press, but most people would have cut him a break if he handled it like that instead of handling it like a blame-shifting-bully-moron.
 
You can tell he's a jerk by nature. He's trying really hard to play nice for damage limitations, yet he just can't refrain from being defensive and blame others. Its like saying "I apologize, but really its all your fault".
 
Recorded history of being an asshole to people........check.
Respect only for people who have power or influence.......check.
Using women and children as a reason why people should not be angry with you.........check.
Apologizing for people's inability to put up with your bullshit..........check.
Hiding as soon as your attitude causes backlash......check.
Asking the very people you wronged and insulted to help you out.........check.


The guy is a coward. Admittedly I wouldn't want to be under the kind of force he has coming against him, but I'd like to think I could conduct myself in a way that wouldn't turn normal inactive consumers of internet fluff to screaming for my head.

And there's evidence that he impersonating other people through N-Controls email addresses trying to mitigate the damage to himself. I don't think he's suffered quite enough yet, considering he has a history of doing this and has probably done this to more people. Ruining a company's name and product line single handed....and then using their resources after they cut ties with you trying to mitigate the damage you've done to your own name/business. And even giving up control of your online accounts to other people trying to escape the fury.
 
You know, I'm trying damn hard to feel some sympathy for him, but he's making it really hard.

And anywhere I go in the city I get in for free, I have a lot of connections. I had the potential to make $200,000 this year, and now I don’t have a position with the company any more. If things blow over and I get a position back in the company….
