More Theaters Reserve Seats for Tweeters

What do you guys think of theaters reserving a section for Tweeters? I guess it beats having someone sit right in front of you tweeting during a play. At least this way, they are all corralled off away from everyone else.;)

A growing number of theaters and performing groups across the country are setting aside "tweet seats," in-house seats for patrons to live-tweet during performances, including the Carolina Ballet in Raleigh, N.C., and the Dayton Opera in Dayton, Ohio.

I'm glad people are now beginning to understand this is acceptable behavior...NOT! Btw, In before idiocracy comments...

As long as they realize I am bringing my five year old neighbor who is gonna kick the shit out of their seats, I think we can all come to an understanding. ;)

Like Zarathustra, I would have these seats be in a square in the lobby that these people pay for. It would also require those in the square to wear dunce caps. I have a hard time yelling or even rising my voice, but these assholes make me roar out "keep tweeting so I can find you motherfucker".

I haven't been back to a theater in years. This sort of things simply guarantees I'll probably never go back.

If they all sat in the back, so the rest of us didn't have to see the blue glow of their cell phone screens, I'd be happy.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind theaters making EVERYONE with a cell phone sit in the very back.

and they wonder what the reason is for ticket sales declining, or why new-release piracy is increasing. im not paying $16+ per ticket at a place where they allow cellphone use anywhere inside the theater.

i would even support requiring people check their cellphones at the door before being let in... not that any theater would pay for the security staff for that, but still.

This is why I am glad we have Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin. They have very strict rules about talking and cell phone use. They spend a good 2 minutes before each movie talking about their policy and end it with, and I quote, "Silence your phone, and do not talk, or we will take your ass out."

I love Austin.

Theaters just need to implement legal cell jammers. If you want to be a Twit go in the lobby. I suppose that wouldn't effect all the blue screens of people trying to use their phones though.

Personally I would hire ninja's for every theatre chain. You tweet you die. Simple. Weeds out the little shits that fuck it up for everybody else. And maybe those ninja's could be used on the RIAA/MPAA. Dunno... I know this sounds as dumb as reserved seating for tweeters. People and their fucking phones. Assholes. Best time at a theatre, first show Monday morning. No one is there.

Stop accommodating bad behavior please, it only encourages more bad behavior.

Sheesh, we need this like we need a section for people who like to fart.

Are you fucking kidding me? Any theater who does this will lose my business, period. I walked out of a movie and requested a refund for the first time ever about a month ago - it wasn't just one person in front of me talking and on their cell phone - it was the whole fucking theater. My mind was literally blown - the whole theater was shouting, chatting and texting throughout. Never had seen anything like it, I wanted to puke over what our society has become.

Sit them in the very back, in an enclosed, hermetically sealed, perspex box. I'll tweet/facebook/web surf before the performance (whither movie or performance art), but once the lights go out / notice the performance is starting, phone goes in the pocket - it's usually on silent 98% of the time anyway.

More incentive to not go out.

I am saving more and more money, this is awesome.

I think the Texan answer sounds good. Does that also include a sniper sitting on the balcony silencing anyone who turns a phone on? Okay, if the blood from a head shot is too much, maybe use tranquilliser darts?

Why tweet from a theatre? Surely that is just playing a game of trying to spoil the plot for other people. I really don't care what some random idiot thinks of the film\show.

Nice. More shiney distracting cell phones pulled out during a viewing. I've nearly stopped going to the theatres at all. Noisy people, cell phones out all the time. And not that I have anything against kids but FFS why are you bringing a child 4 and under to loud action film. I don't want to hear your kid crying through the movie.

Or people laughing during serious movies or yelling out random comments about how they feel about a particular scene occurring in the move.

I like watching movies at home better.

Reserve the seats on the very first row. Looking up for a couple hours may be healthy for their necks as they're consistently looks down at their phones tweeting stupid and mundane events.

They should outlaw tweeting/texting/cell phone use, just as smoking is outlawed in public restaurants/venues.

This sort of folks get a swift kick upside their head from me, no questions asked. If theaters are going to encourage this kind of behavior, I probably will stop going at all. It's already bad enough of an experience to go to movies on top of extremely crappy films themselves and high ticket prices.

This thread is actually an excellent example that no one actually reads the articles, as everyone assumed this is referring to movie theaters.

Heh, you don't even need to read the article. Steve said play and quoted a ballet hall.

Regardless, it's still rude to chitchat on your phone in any form during any performance be they play or movie.

Theatre for a play or a movie - I still don't want some idiot in front of me on his phone.

It is even more important in a play to be able to hear and see the actors without childish interruptions from some berk on his phone.

(And you are a good example of someone who posts without reading the other posts... my post intentionally left it open as to all types of theatre :D)

Hence the tweet seats. Apparently the performers like the real time feedback.
Real time feedback? In a play? You are joking aren't you?

There is this clever idea of applause where you clap when you appreciate a good performance. And boo or walk out when it is rubbish. Empty seats are feedback.

If I was in a play and saw someone tweeting, I would assume that I was doing a bad job and boring my audience. A play, by its very nature, is a two way communication process. As an actor I would be very annoyed if I saw someone ignoring my performance by messing with his phone instead.
