HP Touchpad 16GB $99, 32GB $149, Active for .edu

My BN order got cancelled, and then they had the nerve to send me their newsletter right after. My Best Buy order did get shipped though, ordered on the 21st, got tracking number today.

I cant stand resellers, its the upscale way of slinging crack rock.

I just want a tablet because I've wanted one for a while, and at 100 bucks, for a decent 10" one, with possibility of android porting later, is worth the risk, vs shelling out 400+

If this was true then why would newegg not offer a deal? Newegg is not that bad people here are just being overly selfish. Newegg and any place has the right to run their business to make a profit. What is going on is alot of people thought they could game the system and ordered them at full price expecting that newegg and others would just drop their pants and bend over. The way I see it people took a risk , so what that is fine but man up and accept if your risk didn't pan out. Don't run around claiming that newegg is bad, they did nothing wrong people tried to exploit the system and they did not let that happen, I think that is just fine.

A super deal just happened, personally I missed it, others missed it as well, some of us just accepted it, others decided they would try to force others to make the deal when it did not work they freaked out.

Why do you think a majority of stores all offered credits going back to purchases made in july? Somehow they are not in business to make a profit? Newegg decided not to worry about it over the weekend, left the item up people ordered and now they do not want to offer credit... likely because the terms were such they had to remove full priced touchpads before XX time or something equally as silly. They have said they are talking with hp and have yet to come to terms. It is sad when even best buy is offering a superior customer experience.

once you guys receive your cases, could you please report back on their quality? I'd spend $25-30 on a quality case. But if a $6 job is going to have the same results, I'll go cheap.

I got the same thing. Of course what was the 'headliner'? The color Nook for $249, i wonder if they actually thought that would work...

That is not very good info. Some stores show they are getting some and didnt. There arent any stores in IA on there and they got some. I hear you should just go to them and ask. It the nearest one to me wasnt 1.5 hours round trip id go.

Most of those Best Buys aren't even getting enough to cover employees snagging them before they hit the shelf.

From OnSale:

Dear Customers,

This is Robert Rich, President of OnSale. We appreciate your patience and apologize to our customers for any inconvenience related to unfulfilled orders for HP Touch Pads.

As a result of an unintended and unprecedented event, the dramatic price reduction in the discontinued HP Touch Pad which occurred over this past weekend, we received orders so quickly over a couple of hour period on Sunday that we were not able to properly process all of these orders.

At this time, we regret that we have determined we will not have sufficient clarity in a timely manner regarding additional availability of product to allow us to fill remaining unfulfilled orders. Unfortunately as a result, we are now cancelling unfulfilled orders and expect this process to be completed shortly. Customers whose orders are being canceled will receive a cancelation notice via e-mail. No credit cards have been charged for any unfulfilled orders.

Again, we are truly sorry for any inconvenience to customers and please accept our sincere apologies.

So, I have a pending charge on my card. That means I should be receiving them, right?

You're not taking into account the amount of leverage HP has over Best Buy. It's not as though BB took the hit willingly. HP coerced them into losing money...how many HP laptops and devices does Newegg push for HP? The amount they depend upon HP for their business is the degree to which they can be pushed to do HP's will. Not much (dependence on HP) == not much (HP leverage over Newegg).

Tons of stores refused to sell the touch pads at HP's advertised rates. In fact, the only places I knew that did were BB, Office Depot, and Staples...all B&M outlets for HP's products. B&N didn't drop their prices, tons of etailers refused, and every mom and pop shop refused, as well.

I got mine today (from Amazon) and all I have to say is HP can go DIAF for killing WebOS. The interface is very intuitive, and lack of apps aside, it's very smooth to use.

Also, got an email from my HP order saying it will be shipped Thursday.

So this is from SD. Apparently it's the list of how many are going to be coming in to BestBuy in the next shipment. http://seaduction.com/best_buy_hp_touchpad_inventory.html

There are 2 near me that will have a grand total of........ 7 across the two stores. Still these are an hour drive so doubt I'll be making the trip to "check".

Ugh, my BB is getting 7. It's 5 min away... but it opens at 9:00am and I have class from 8:30 till 10:20. Is that annoying? I think so. Maybe if I jet over right after, I dunno.

EDIT: Assuming this is legit, of course. And I only just saw this now so I'm unable to call over and verify.

I have yet to receive any emails from OnSale. I bought from OnSale through Amazon though. I have a pending credit card charge as well.

You won't get an email. You have to log into OnSale and click on the tracking number.

I bought mine noon Sunday and it will arrive Monday. 8 day shipping, but at least I got my pair :)

Same here. Still says "Shipping Soon," still have a pending charge. I realize this was a pretty big mixup, but its a tad ridiculous they haven't sorted this out.

1) Check inventory.
2) Check order numbers.
3) If you have 4000 units and 5000 orders in the first hour, cancel EVERYONE ELSE'S ORDER after that hour. Or send them an email. Or SOMETHING.

They could be fine-tooth-combing it for gross offenders who ordered like 20 units, but honestly at this point I just want it resolved one way or another. Give me my money or give me my Touchpad.

Dunno how you'd track through onSale if the order was made through Amazon. The only order number (I believe) I have is via Amazon's order system, not onSale's.

For the ones the ordered through SMB you can check your status with your email and password again.

I checked my monday evening order and it says "Your order is approved and being sent to order management". I probably shouldn't hold much hope in it but it's my only shot right now.

Hold your pants. I had "Shipping Soon" up till just recently. You still have hope.

Still wont get an email, so don't expect one. You will get a tracking number, so if ordered via Amazon check your status daily.

I hear you about webOS. I feel no need to switch to Android if it gets ported. I like the web browser and multi-tasking better for webOS. It's a great tablet for farting around on the net and worth $99 for that alone. Hopefully HP keeps webOS going or the community does.

Thanks for the link, mine is saying the same thing, hopefully we'll get ours!

My tracking number just updated Woot! It just left Olive Branch MS, should be here Friday. What's funny is the 2nd part of my order(the paper filler) got shipped out separately and sooner from the same place

Yeah mine too. I thought it didn't go through or something cuz I never got an email confirmation but I just cracked my login info and there it is! Also called up HP and got on the list for if they have more in the future. Figured why not? Call 800-790-6947 if you want on the list. Press 4 to purchase a new product. Night guys, bbtomorrow! :p

They don't plan on killing webOS. For one thing, they've spent billions of dollars and decisions like this aren't done overnight, afaik. It's not like they had a ten year business plan and then their tablets didn't sell as well as they thought so they scrapped the whole plan...

given the fact that there are about 100 tablet apps and their statements that they want to focus on home and car applications, we'll start seeing webOS as an embedded system on various devices in the not too distant future. but webOS users won't be getting apps unless developers step up. the community can't and won't do anything for webOS because it's closed source and is going to stay that way. even if HP went bankrupt they wouldn't open source webOS.

additionally, the news I watched on msnbc stated their stock valuation increased 3% the first day of the statement to get out of the consumer market. I haven't been tracking it since but if it continues that's a clear signal that investors consider this move as nothing less than getting rid of dead weight (end-users) rather than a fiasco.

I can get to the screen where it shows the order and then when I click the "view" arrow I get:

Your request was unable to be processed at this time please try again later.

*sigh*

According to that touchpad inventory checker the 4 BBs around me are supposed to have a total of 20 some. I seriously doubt it, but I have to go get some shit for class so I might as well check it.

...and it ended that same day down 8% and another 20% the following day, the worst in the history of the company.

The pending transaction from onsale/amazon is gone.

Still says "shipping soon", but I doubt I'm getting it.

I ordered 5 and am getting none, lol. was stupid of me to pre-buy cases too.

I'm so bummed now.

[Strike=option]I went and bought a 32GB from newegg at full price as some articles had said HP will be enforcing stores to drop the prices. Being in Afghanistan I don't have the time or chance to really hit a deal when they drop prices. It looks like my touchpad arrived at my family's place today, but now Newegg is still not doing anything about the price change and their official answer is that the matter is still being researched.

They had updated the product page for the touchpads that they are no longer accepting returns for the items. I think Newegg just fucked me and everyone else who bought a touchpad from them

God, how did such a great retailer go so wrong???

EDIT: I'm waiting patiently for an official response, but this is getting ridiculous. If they don't honor the new price I know I will personally take a lead on making sure Newegg knows they they are actively scalping customers.[/s]

EDIT EDIT: Looks like Newegg is going through with the refunds. Thank god they came through, all respect has been regained :D

you know newegg updated their facebook page stating they will be giving you the lower price, right?

Hi Fans! We want to let you know we are aware of the recent price drop on the HP Touchpads. We also want you to know that we will be reaching out via e-mail very soon to offer an appropriate price adjustment to all of our customers who have purchased HP Touchpads from Newegg – regardless of the date of purchase.

We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience as we work through the details!

Thank god for that update. I had been watching threads left and right and all over the newegg site for info. Never thought to check their facebook.

Thanks again [H] :D

Totally agree. What i was saying when the Pre first came out still stands: it's the best mobile
OS. Almost Scary how intuitive it is. It might not have the support or tweakability of iOS or Android, but for someone who just wants basic features, it's perfect.

+1

been playing with it for a few hours now, am most certainly impressed.

I was afraid I was getting my family semi-junk tablets.. boy was I wrong.

Snappy and extremely well thought out.

My order from Amazon still shows "Shipping Soon"

This portion of your order is being prepared for shipment and cannot be canceled or changed.
...the suspense is killing me..:)

I want it just to play around with, so no big deal if I don't get it, I just wish I knew one way or the other ....
