Longest gaming session? Guy dies in UK after 12 hrs of Xbox

About 40 Hours in Neverwinter Nights was the longest I ever done. I did do 12+ hours in Oblivion per day for over 40 days though but I was sleeping and stuff in between.

Now well I'm lucky to play 15 hours per week.

I've done more than 12 hours easy. WoW pvp system 1.0 was no joke. My last week was pretty much 18 on 6 off.

i guess for me, it is something like, in CS:S i die in a round, i take that seconds to 1 min to get up and get a drink and so on, so i take chances when i died to do something, get food, washroom, get a drink

I've gone on gaming sessions that start as soon as I wake up and end when I have to sleep... and then begin again the next day.

Not exactly continuous I guess but in terms of activeness while awake, it would of been 2-3 days

Of course that was back in high school...

Longest session was roughly 51 hours continuous playing Fallout 3 with all DLCs. I was one tired SOB after that session. Nowadays I usually limit myself to around 12 hours max.

Not one wink of sleep. I was so addicted to the game that I pre-planned the session. Bought a case of beer, bottled water and various stuff to munch on (including having pizzas delivered) while I was running around the wasteland.

No sleep?...

I've done about 60 hours straight of Disgaea 2. Friday afternoon to early Monday morning. Only stopped cause I had to go to school. I was pretty tired after that, didn't eat much the entire weekend, still went through my normal routine though. Couldn't do it again if I wanted to though. I generally get up and walk around a bit every 60-90 minutes now, my back just can't take all the bad posture while gaming.

If the gaming session means play said game for x amount of hours before finally getting smacked in the face by the sleepy fairy, it would be 38 hours on Mass Effect 2 . I have been known to conduct gaming sessions while the wife is away though. I maximize the time by doing a little grocery shopping beforehand. and load up on electrolytes, protein, and trans fat.

Lan party when I was ~14. Played Q3, CS, etc. One particular instagib match went on for 6 hours alone - first to 1000 points (3 second shield, longest yard, so you could knock people off to lower their score).

Overall the lan party went for 3 days, awake for most of it before the delirium set in. Breaks only for bathroom and food. Good times :)

The parents in the house didn't have anything to say about this? LOL....

I can't even image trying to instagib people for 6 hours straight. I think my eyes would get crossed. Good shit :D

deep vein thrombosis

sounds like he threw a clot in his leg which caused a pulmonary embolism.

Sounds more like it was related to not having that clot checked out than anything related to gaming for 12 hours straight.

This story is definitely misleading.

story is not misleading.

sitting and not moving for prolonged times can cause a clot in a vein, then it can become a PE and kill you.

it normally is something the elderly worry about. they are told to get up and walk around a few times on long flights to prevent this from happening.

the only thing that makes this story unusual is his age. gaming did not kill him, it was being imoblized for 12 hours and being susceptible to dvt's

lol @ The Sun, sensationalist journalism at its best. Next they'll be reporting breaking news that Mortal Kombat shows us how to kill someone and GTA is showing us how to kill hookers and steal our money back

Don't forget to check out the tits on page 3......

Holy crap how do you guys even do that?? More than once I've put in 40-70 hour stints to get shit done for deadlines, but that was for killer deadlines and I could never bring myself to do that for a game, it takes days to recover from it and a huge amount of will power to keep working through. Hell, if I did a 20 hour stint of gaming while living with my parents I think they just woulda switched off the power at the switchboard to get me out of the house :p

Yeah, the article highlights the importance of actually moving around and doing shit instead of sitting in one place for a long period of time which is something gamers should be wary about, especially hearing how long of stints some of you guys have put in :p My cousin who died of a dvt after many hours on flights was only 30yo as well, so it can definitely happen to young people as well.

I'm with you on this one. I don't see one can game for that long.

Agree with this. I've heard people getting it from sitting though long flights as well.

I think sitting 10 hours straight is more dangerous than 48 hours of gaming session with bathroom breaks or meal breaks in between.

What game was that? You played completely through 3 times? Wow, thats mad dedication.

It was metal gear solid 3 plays through (to get all the stuff) and all the vr missions with breaks in between of playing through random other games. If something is pretty basic, it's almost like sleeping :D Being awake for 36 hours isn't really that challenging, and I don't get hungry easily (though I have a fast metabolism) and I wasn't at a desk (was a psone so I was on the floor). However, 24 hour quake sessions give you serious "quake palm".

I was up a total of 60 hours for the Nvidia 36 Hour Guiness World Record Lan attempt.
Weekend long lans I usually dont sleep for the first night and get a few hours the second night.

I had no intentions of doing that, I just sat down on Friday and became so immersed that I forgot about everything else. I probably would have kept playing if it wasn't for my sister waking up early for school and wondering why I was already up :p

And you find that entertaining? lol :p

RIP.
But, I did put in like 28 hours of FF3 when it came out.

that's pretty much a holy mission right there, lol.

I bought FF7 and stayed home from school the next day to play it.

I just could not stop playing that game.

I liked playing Aion because it would tell me every hour how much time I had played. 36 hours or so and it would automatically log you out. 1 minute later log back in and hit the 36 hour mark again. If I sleep more than 3 hours a night I feel bad the next day. I wonder what else was wrong with this guy besides the clots.

26 hour (Stella Artois and Paulaner assisted) CSS run a couple years ago. Had a couple days off from work and all my friends were out of town. Figured "what the hell". Probably would've gone longer, but my ISP decided to work on the lines in my area.

Back in High School, it wasn't a big deal for me to do 24 Diablo 2 marathons in the summer. Living on a reservation means there is literally NOTHING for a kid under drinking age and without a car to do. But so help me god I had internet.

Got damn. the most I did was 5 hours in COD4 Multiplayer. You guys have no life nerds:p

The Marines taught me how to stay awake for long periods of time. I stood watch at a base outpost in South Korea back in 1987 for 2 solid days. Didn't bother me one bit. :D

Only 12 hours? What a wimp. I know I've played the original Diablo for more hours straight than that.

Plowed through both mass effect games, non stop, in two weeks.
Each day I played about 12-16 hours straight.

Seriously guys? Sensationalist story aside some guy has died and all most of you can shout is how much longer your can stroke your gaming cock for?

Have some respect.

Respect for dying from a clot for sitting on your ass? But there's no honor in that.

If he died fighting off a bear from mauling a bunch of orphans on the other hand..

It's about respecting the pain of his grieving family. Dick.

longest i play at any given time is about 2 hours because I usually get up to get more beer or use the restroom lol :p

I never really kept track but I know I've gone over 24 hours easily more times than I could count.

A typical session would be between 8-16 hours or so. If it's not 8 hours than it would be a quicky like an hour. Though I haven't played any games in over a year-ish. Still got the last 2 need for speed's and black ops waiting for me, whenever I get around to it. Probably not for a while.

Release a new Vice City and I'll be all over that shit :D

12 hours? That's doesn't sound to much. I'm sure I had sessions over 12 hours in my teens, not to mention been working as a programmer. And that is addictive as hell!

I've gone 24 hours on a Sins of a Solar Empire binge...but it was the same game the whole time. I've done 14 hour BF2 and 2142 binges. Maybe some CSS here and there.

When I was still in high school, some of us would game all Friday and Saturday night, and not sleep until Sunday. 36+ hour sessions were fairly common for those of us who could stay up.

18hrs in wow back in vanilla grinding in STV from level 35-37. went from a bout 12 noon to 6am the next morning. Thanksgiving eve, the first of many WoW binges. Havent played in a few months (6) and getting the itch to go at it again :(
