Yes that thread was stunning for me. It appears the demographic hear on H might be a little younger, but not by much.

I'm 42, still going at it. What else am I gonna do?

I believe the game Rockband, was a huge hit with older gamers. I sure know we had quite a few rockband partys, re-living the 80s rock.
 
I'm 22, been gaming since 91-92, I really can't see my self ever giving up gaming. Though with work now, my days of 12 hours+ gaming are over.
 
39 here....been loving my Winter gaming since RTCW and Twisted Metal.

Very stoked for BF3...sick of BC2 kinda...
 
19, past the times when I gamed a lot, don't see myself getting too back into it in the future because of college and studies after that.

be nice to have a poll that was:

etc, or similar 5 year brackets rather than 10 year

Keep in mind, with all these people being surprised about gamer being 37 years old on average, there are a lot of factors to consider....
First, over 90% of gamers are over 18.
The study says nothing about what KIND of video game they're talking about...this includes games on hand helds, casino games, tetris on an old flip phone, etc etc etc.

I'm sure if you were to ask "How old is the average console gamer" the age would be more like 27, and for PC gamer it may be a bit older, but the question about "Average Gamers Age" is all encompassing. It's far to general to break things down evenly. Steam Surveys tend to be pretty good, but still not accurate. Also, keep in mind that video games are being used A LOT in retirement homes (Wii) for exercise, this would drive the average WAAAAY up. If you have one gamer who's 90 and another one who's twenty, the average age would be 55!!! LMAO....

It would be an interesting statistic to know though...age/game type ratio thingy....anyone??? Anyone??? Wanna help make a template? Simple, web based questionair about who's playing what and for how long??? PM me, I'll make the questions...you do the site! We sell the responses to major game companies!!! LMAO
 
31 (well 2 months and 11 days until 31 , actually 30) have zero intention on quiting. However our wonderful economy has made it quite challenging to spend $63 bucks a game. I'll only spend that on a hand full of games throughout the year , now I mostly wait for deals on Steam , D2D and price drops or used games at Gamestop.

But once the work picks up I'll probably be blowing tons of money on games again , its just something I enjoy doing. My girlfriend doesn't however enjoy me blowing money on lots of games lol , but I make the money so its my choice.
 
34 here, started on a second hand C64 when I was 12 or so.

My taste in games has shifted a bit over the course of those 22 years ofcourse, FPS doesn't interest me as much anymore and I've become more of an RPG player.
Time spent on the hobby has gone down as well as I've got other things that need doing as well now.
 
28. Started on the Commadre 64 playing a game where you had to enter velocity and angles to get your money to throw exploding bananas at your friends giant monkey whom were both climbing buildings. First one to guess the right numbers won.
 
You have to also take into account the average age of a forum user, particularly a tech forum is skewed to the younger generation.
 
Lowly 18 year old here. Had my best days on the SNES when I didn't know what I was doing and just did stupid stuff. :p

Damn, youngest in the thread haha. Everyone around my age is all into console gaming. Sure, I play on them a lot too, but I guess I'm one of the rare guys who do PC gaming as well in my age bracket.

...really? in 91 you would have been 2? and wolfenstein came out in 1992, making you 3?
 
22 here. We had an old Atari when I was young but I really didn't get into gaming until SNES, and really the Sega Genesis.
 
22. Had more than a couple of strangers say they thought I was at least 30. Not especially flattering, especially since I try to be as juvenile as possible.
 
been gaming since 1992 with Sonic 2 on the Genesis im 24. The old farts may have been playing longer but can they match my reflex's lol
 
19 here. First game I ever played was Super Street Fighter II on SNES, I think I was three or four years old at the time. My first online gaming experience was in 2005 with Battlefield 1942.

Me personally, I'm 25. I dont see me gaming to a ripe old age as even now I'm gaming less and less, when I was little I barely played any games (owned a NES but only had a few games for it). As a teenager was my gaming peak, I played maybe 20-30 games a year, now at 25 I barely play games at all despite having a good gaming PC. I can count the games I've played in the past 12 months on 1 hand (not including demos and games I've bought but only played for less than an hour).

I think even if the average is high, the mode is probably early to mid 20s. The way statistics work is that the average will push more toward the older side compared to the median and the mode even if the bulk of players are younger, though 37 does seem on the high end.

Proportionally speaking I have far less friends who game now than when I was a kid, and of the friends who do game, only a couple game as much as they used to (more like play a Wii for an hour a week rather than play PC games for 20 hours a week).

I guess it depends how you define "gaming" as well. If you define it as playing a considerable number of hours of games each week, I think you'll find your average gamer age is much lower than if you simply define it as someone who has played a game at some stage in the past month, whether it be PC, console, slot machine, online card game, smart phone game, etc. Just because the "average" is 37 I doubt the target audience is 37 for most of what we here consider average games. If 2 parents aged 40 play 15 minutes of the 10 games they bought their 12 yo kid, the average gaming age would be 30, lol.

My first system was a Colecovision...which I still have and occasionally play. :)
 
35. Started gaming on the original pong console. Then Atari 2600. NES, N64, Xbox, Wii, 360.
Played on the colecovision a bit as well at a friends house.

First computer was a Tandy from Radio Shack. One of the first to have a 3.5" floppy drive. 8mhz cpu, no hard drive. And a nice dot matrix printer. When I got my first packard bell I used to get on the BBS's and hang out for hours.

Those were the good ole days.
 
22, a couple months from 23, and it all started with win95 and the DN 3D, the glory days!
 
20 here. Been around PC games since I was at least five...I can still remeber sitting on my dad's lap watching him play Myst. My dad, on the other hand, turns 65 this November and is still playing and upgrading his computer every couple years; he never did make the jump into online multiplayer games though.
 
23. i think the first pc game i ever played was oregon trail. moved on to everquest, cs 1.3 and diablo. for some reason my parents thought those games were ok but they wouldnt let me see pg13 moves until i was 13.
