Thanks to secretanchitman on AnandTech for posting this:

in-store only. credit goes to NeoGAF and CAG for finding the deal first!

toys r us comes out with booklets around the year that are filled with coupons. this months coupon has one that gives $10 off either the ps3 or 360 version of mortal kombat. its valid until may 15th i believe. however, starting sunday may 1st, mortal kombat will be on sale for $39.99 ($20 off after almost 2 weeks of being on sale!), and so using the $10 off coupon from the booklet will make it $29.99!

i bought my copy today for $49.99 and am getting it pricematched next week down to $29.99 (after next weeks $10 discount and the $10 coupon).

the booklet you need to look for either has michael jackson on the front cover or a black nintendo 3DS with three lego star wars characters on it. my local toys r us store only had the old booklets, but the next store i went to had tons of the new booklets on hand.

on another note, the person at the video game counter knew *exactly* what i was doing, and was totally happy i knew about it. he was waiting for more ps3 copies to come in - apparently more people are buying the ps3 version than the 360 version, probably because kratos is an exclusive character.

Just FYI that YMMV on the booklets. Many people were reporting going into Toys R' Us and asking the staff who had no clue what or where these booklets were. It's a great deal though so soon after release.

well that pretty much confirms that MK will be the last game I ever buy at original retail price if they're going to plummet in cost this quickly.

Really enjoying the game though!

MK is not on PC so they lost my business a LONG time ago

Aaaaactually.....

IBM PC/Microsoft Disk Operating System (1993) – Both the IBM PC version and MS-DOS are the most faithful ports of the arcade version in terms of graphics and gameplay. The PC and DOS ports differ in terms of music score however ; the DOS version was the most accurate in that factor. The DOS version came in CD and floppy-disk formats.

Yes, I actually did own this back when I ran a 486/33mhz machine. I do believe 2-4 were also released on PC.

i had some of the old MK titles i'm talking about the NEW mk 3d and mk vs capcom stuff

Mortal Kombat 1 on a Pentium 1 @ 75 mhz was the s#it back in 94-95. That and Doom 1 & 2 really showed me how exciting PC gaming could be.

No TRU around here, but hopefully Amazon or someone will have a good deal on it soon if it's already dropping this much in price.

Thanks for the heads up. When to the Toys R Us around where I live and found a coupon. Hopefully they will have the game in stock on Sunday when I get there.

To the OP, thanks for the info. I went to get it yesterday at our neighborhood TRU and though they did not have it on sale for $39 (probably had to wait one more day, which I could not due to my son's Bday), they did have it on sale for $49. The store manager gave me a coupon book and dropped it to $39 so I was happy. Also, this was the last copy they had so it was good I bought it yesterday.

Thanks again.

Today i went to my local TRU and low and behold the woman working the game counter was on the phone calling another store looking for a MK for another guy! hahah.. Put 2 on hold for us and hit the road. Scored with the extra coupon as they had the booklet w/ MJ on the cover at the counter.

Thanks to the OP!!

Too bad gas is as expensive as it is, $30 even if I don't have a PS3 is still good all my friends have PS3s. Goes well with my PS3 tournament fighting stick I use on my PC.

I agree on all accounts.

What wasn't so awesome, however, was the control situation back then. Used the keyboard most of the time.

What also wasn't so awesome was when my mom made me quit playing MK. lol. I was probably, what, 11 at the time.

Anyone know if there will be a PC version of MK being released soon? I've been a big fan of the games since the original, but I dont have a 360 or ps3 and really dont want to buy a system for just one game. I like pc gaming a whole lot better than consoles so I doubt I'd ever play anything more on it.

I doubt it honestly. I suppose there's a chance since SF4 seemed to do OK on PC. However usually we would have heard about a PC port by now.

hmm..what if I bought mine at Walmart 2 weeks ago? Can I somehow recoup my $30? Although this game is well worth the $60 I paid for it so far. ^_^

Scored my copy w/ the coupon today. Woot!

Also...the Kitana codes are netting in the neighborhood of $15 on eBay as well, so you can get your total cost to sub-$20 if you don't care for the extra costume...

Sadly my local store was sold out. Oddly enough they said they only get trucks on Saturday, but sometimes UPS brings them stuff. So hopefully worse case I can buy the game on the last day of the sale - Saturday 5/7.

It appears I can order online for in store pickup, but I assume it will fail somewhere in the process. I was there in the flesh to buy the game. Plus, no coupon that way. Now I've been reading reviews and as an old schol MK fan, I NEED this game. I'll be patient based on recent poor factor, but truth be told I'm going to get it, no matter what. FINISH HIM!

I tried three different stores, and none of them knew what I was talking about regarding the coupon booklet :-(

just nabbed last one @ toys r us near me in nashville. thanks OP!

My Toys R Us was out of stock the weekend the sale started but I was able to nab one of them today since they restocked them last night. $30 was a steal and this game is awesome!

My Toys R US just had the newsletters with the coupons in the store, I just asked the employee and shit hooked it up.

The toys R us people by me had no idea what I was talking about but I found stacks of them on the ends of the registers where the toys get bagged. It wasn't a coupon book, it's more of a toys r us newsletter with some coupons in the middle.

i think that was it. had thicker inserts in the middle that you could pull the coupon out of for 10$ homefront or Mk.

Yeah, the ones I visited were clueless as well...anyway, glad you were able to get one

I went to my local TRU and Mortal Kombat was 59.99, not on sale. =(

Thanks OP. Picked it up yesterday for $30 sold the kitana code for $9. Not bad for a 3 week old game.

When I picked up the game last sunday they had not changed the price on the shelf, but it rang up just fine. Did you have them ring it up?
