Just as the title states I am wanting to hear your "must have" apps.

Advanced Task Killer was a nice one as programs do not kill after they are closed.

What version of Android do you have? If it's 2.2 you really don't need a task killer....apps might not "kill" when closed, but that's okay. I find it best to let it manage itself, really.

Talking tom is pretty funny.
Rock player seems to be the only player that can play flv.
GameBoid let's you play gameboy games... Great for boring lectures.
Camera Zoom was great up until the last update, at which point it started to take crap pictures on my droid x.
I'm becoming a big fan of apg. Great for hiding personal... Stuff.

Get rid of Advanced Task Killer...its useless and actually does more harm than good...Android Task Killers and Why You Shouldnt Use Them

As far as "must have apps"...

1) Handcent SMS...better text app than stock, better configuration ability

2) RockPlayer...overall great app for playing video files...free version is fine if you dont mind the small logo watermark

3) Angry Birds...most addicting video game to date...easy and fun time killer

4) Astro File Manager...gives complete control of your files, especially if you are "rooted".

5) Awesome Drop or DropBox...either one are great for transferring files wirelessly from PC to Phone..Awesome Drop does not transfer from Phone to PC at this time, but DropBox does.

6) Beautiful Widgets...makes for a nice appearing weather/time/date on a home screen

7) Dolphin Browser HD...best web browser I have tried so far...desktop integration is nice and page handling is done well.

8) DroidForum app...best forum so far for learning your phone, as well as needing help if you "brick" your device...awesome group in charge of it.

9) PowerAmp...nice music app that plays just about all music file types...

10) z4root...easiest method so far to "rooting" most Android devices. Download, install, click Perm Root, reboot and all should be well.

Agreed. An underclocking utility, such as SetCPU (root users only) does wonders for battery life.

10) z4root...easiest method so far to "rooting" most Android devices. Download, install, click Perm Root, reboot and all should be well.

I disagree, any hopeful rooter should do a bit of reading over at XDA before attempting to root. For example, the universal root programs don't work for Evo owners. Further, not even the Evo rooting program works for the newer Evo hardware, so you have to be careful what you start flashing to your phone. No one likes a brick.

My list of useful apps:

Twitter App: Plume - Highly suggested - better than the stock Twitter app on my Evo
MisMisMatch Free clone of the card game "Set"
Elixir - system widgets for every attribute of your Android device.
Bit! One-trick-pony clone of Bit from Tron.
Watchdog Task Manager Lite - CPU usage Based Task Manager
Google Chrome To Phone
ASTRO File Manager + BT + SMB = Filemanager + OBEX FTP support using Bluetooth networking & SMB (Windows) networking.
arcMedia Media Player - format support: avi, divx, mkv, mov, mp4, rmvb, wmv, vob, xvid
Winamp
Fruit Ninja The original Slice and Dice Fruit App for $0.99
Battery Indicator Pro $1.49 - shows usage stats, battery temp, time remaining.
Key Ring Get all those plastic barcoded jobbies for grocery stores off of your keychain

Ah, arcmedia, just what I've been looking for. Does it have AC3 audio support? I have some older videos that still have it.

Well, since we are on [H], I didnt think I would have to explain the details of what "rooting" is and what it can do if not done properly...but, there are those here that might not actually know, so I will give you that.

Also, as far as "bricking" from rooting...it really takes more to brick a Android device than just trying to root...bricking usually comes when swapping ROMS and trying to SBF back to different versions of the OS. But, there are those isolated incidents when rooting was the only "modification" being tried. Like anything else, YMMV, so do all rooting, themeing and ROMing at your own risk...

I have found that it depends on the phone as to what method to use for rooting. I got used to using adb and it helps later on with things so i recommend that.

The argument for using task killers or not using it can go both ways. The argument won't go away any time soon. I don't use any auto killer, but i use Advance Task Killer from time to time. Some apps continue running and burning through your battery otherwise. Winamp does it for me. And it plays at random times if i don't kill it.

That spaghetti marshmallow game is addicting. Stupid frogs.

I like trapball. basic Jezzball clone.

Sleeptimer is great if you fall asleep listening to music.

Soundhound works better for identifying music than Shazam for me. (plus you can hum tunes you don't know the name of)

Rockplayer is good for playing Divx and other videos (still in early stages)

Use Barcode scanner all the time also.

Awesome. Do you have all those installed at once or do you swap out apps every now and then to conserve space. My little HTC Eris would die if I had that many apps installed at once. I can't wait until Aug so I can upgrade. What phone are using and do you notice any slow down?

My LIst:

SlideIT Keyboard
Google Voice
Tweet Deck
System Panel
Phone Usage (great app)
PDA Net
CompSMS

AutoKiller Memory - Not a task killer. Set to Optimum and let it manage your RAM.

This might be worse than your average task killer, since it doesn't let you tag or categorize individual apps for killing. A memory ceiling results in the last app started getting killed, which in some cases might be something you are consciously trying to use.

A lot of people don't realize that Android since about 1.6 has had an automatic memory management feature. When you reach max RAM (usually quite hard to do) Android will, on its own, kill the most dormant apps.

So in a best-case scenario you are duplicating a system process, and in a worst-case scenario, you are handicapping yourself.

I've already had DropBox save me twice, so I have to recommend that one.
The other is another battery life helper, I dunno if it's listed, I skimmed, sue me.
APNDroid, or it's widget- Let's you turn off the 2G/3G antenna for battery life.

You may not notice but on my aging Cliq this has made a big difference.

Dolphin browser mini (better than HD IMO)
Pulse reader
Beautiful widgets
Launcher Pro
Pandora
Facebook

Running Android 2.0 on my 1st gen. mytouch.

I found it necessary to run opera mobile browser on some discussion forums that have a nasty pop up window that trys to push tapatalk onto the user.

I don't recommend tapatalk for the spam like pop up window messages on some forums.

No sense in making people buy tapatalk if they don't want to use it. i hate pop up windows.

WordFeud (RBTradition if you'd like to play)
Dropbox
TweetDeck
Unblock Me (Time waster/Brain teaser)
USAA (Greatest Bank App Ever, if you bank with them)
ESPN ScoreCenter

Any real good (perhaps commercial one-time purchase) GTD (Get Things Done) apps? Really I need to start use something, but as I'm on Linux I'm pretty limited and what's sense to have GTD on home/office computer as you should to have it in your pocket, all the time!

I just installed Opera Mini and freaking love it. Blazingly fast and I love the mouse cursor feature. Much more stable than the stock browser especially after I upgraded my beloved Eris to 2.1.

Barcode Scanner has saved me a ton of money.

Dolphin browser mini (better than HD IMO)

whys mini better?

dropbox- drag and drop files onto phone from PC

dolphin HD- browser with tabs, helps make things a little faster.

catch notes- like it better than evernote cause it saves notes to the phone's SD card for offline viewing, evernote does this but it caches them, and likes to clear cache whenever. catch notes is web based and very clean interface, no software to install on computer.

copilot live- gps nav for when you dont have data service

hex defense, pewpew, mini squadron, gun bros- few good games

shootme- screenshot app for rooted devices

tubemate- great for downloading youtube videos, lets you pick what quality.

runkeeper and cardiotrainer- for workouts, I use runkeeper, makes a map of where you went. everytrail is better for this.

bloomberg- stock market
