Monster Cable has filed a lawsuit against another company claiming patent infringement. Patent infringement? Is there another company out there trying to sell $500 HDMI cables?

We believe Monster and Beats are using the legal system to put an incredible financial pressure on the Fanny Wang Headphone Company and at the time of this writing, they are going even further by asking the court for a restraining order to prevent us from marketing and selling product at our planned launched date or attending CES. Its clear that their intention is to drive us out of business and their actions are despicable, unfair, and consistent with their past litigious behavior. Below is our open letter response.

beautiful, im buying an iphone pair in feb when it launches.

Didn't they pull this crap with blue jean a few years ago?

Monster are just total corpo asshats.

For me, not a lawyer or engineer, the headphones DO look very similar. Not defending the BS Monster pulls on a daily basis, but... how are they different? Or is this kind of thing not really enforcable?

That is a good question I would like to know as well. I mean there are differences between the two but I don't see Apple suing the crap out of someone who makes white ear buds.(or if they are I haven't seen anything on it)

Depends. Monster is claiming a patent violation, though, which may have very little to do with the design. Or perhaps Monster patented the 'ugly headphones', I don't know.

I'm glad they're going to fight it - good on them. But reading the letter made me cringe in some spots. Did anyone try to edit it?

Any company that has a name like Fanny Wang is just asking to get sued.

Any lawsuit Monster files should be dismissed out of hand. They've abused the legal system for far too long, they're corporate extortionists who use these suits to squash competition,or to get money or advertising from any company using the word monster anywhere in their logos. Their products are so outrageously overpriced it amazes me anyone still buys them.If consumers educated themselves about cables,HDMI in particular, and their real worth,Monster would be out of business.

Has any consumer group sued Monster yet for deceptive business practices? Best way to put them out of business is to bring their BS quality claims in front of a judge and have them pay back their ridiculous markup.

Some of you may remember this (linked below) from a few years back. Monster lives up to their name, being a troll that needs to be stopped.

(I suggest reading the responce letter, its just masterfull)

I just finished reading this and I have a few cables from acoustic research that have the very same tips..........

I wonder how many companies monster has done this to?

I loathe Monster Cable like no other company out there.

I loved how BJC responded to and shoved those frivolous claims right up their ++++++++.

Is it in proper english? Haven't read it yet, going to now, but from tfa I'm not expecting much. Most people apparently can't spell and that is a very grating feeling.

My I just feel awful now, disparaging a company without having any firsthand knowledge. I'll try to not let it happen again.

Sure my topic got locked, (search if you must) but why are all these crazy lawsuits coming from Chicago attorneys and more over being signed by these nutjob chicago judges?

This is why I will never buy Monster Cables. I have two cables that were given to me in a pile of equipment. I'm thinking of chopping them up in small pieces with an axe and mailing them back to Monster. Hopefully postage due...

Both sourced their headphones from the same Chinese OEM. Skullcandy does this as well. There's a reason a lot of those trendy "Wait, when has X brand EVER been involved in Audio?" earbuds look and sound virtually identical. Same holds true for over the head cans.

As much as I hate, HATE, HATE to use Gizmodo as a source here... they do back it all up and it's one of the very few instances where something they wrote wasn't total ass. http://gizmodo.com/5617200/the-secret-scam-of-cheap-earbuds

There are so very few brands even designing or manufacturing their own headsets anymore... and even THOSE brands occasionally release models which is their brands slapped on a Chinese generic. (I'm looking at you Sennheiser)

But if you read your own thread, you answer your own question... so basically, this post here is nothing more than a rant to get people to read your OMG FORBIDDEN inappropriate topic posted to the wrong subforum thread.

In addition, you rant about Illinois and Chicago, but in that thread you provided a link as a source that extortion is legal in Illinois... but the link doesn't even mention Illinois at all.

In other words, you're being a whinging retard. Stop crossposting your unrelated crap.

I'm conflicted.

On one hand it's Monster Cable, assklowns of commerce.

Then on the other hand it's "Fanny Wang." Which appears to be another no-name import knock-off factory with bad grammar. I'll take one "over ear noise cancel" please! The "over ear noise cancel" includes this amazing feature: "//JK Popup Window Script (version 3.0)- By JavaScript Kit (http://www.javascriptkit.com) //Visit JavaScriptKit.com for free JavaScripts //This not..."

Patent Trolls vs. Chinese Crap ... FIGHT!

Although, the Fanny Wang website does feature a "girlz" link. So, I think they deserve to win based purely on that.

Wow after looking at the Fanny Wang headphones they do appear to look like beats audio, yet there's some slight differences to them. At least they aren't blatantly saying FW headphones actually are BA headphones. LoL :)

Well, it can't be brand infringement since Monster has differentiated it's own brand by making it synonymous with legal extortion -- and Beats, by association.

That's the one, a deeply inspiring read, thanks for digging up the link. I think I may have to buy some more Blue Jean cable now...wonder if they have added headphones?

Monster is making their claim based on at least one design patent, not a utility patent. Design patent lawsuits are very difficult to win unless the defendant has carbon copied the design.

Fanny Wang's argument in the (inarticulate) response letter is that their design cannot reasonably be confused with Monster's, unless Monster actually thinks they have a design patent on over-the-head phones or have discovered something unique about the shape of the human head.

I've heard good things about Blue Jeans, and I believe I remember hearing about this a year or so ago. They just got themselves a new customer.

A few ethernet and DVI cables will be ordered this weekend!

I really hate when asshole companies are successful. If the public knew the truth about Monster I wonder if they would still buy their crap.

True, but I thought it started with their "superior" cables.

They'd probably try and sue you for damaging property. lol
