Can't believe no one has made this.

Ok guys, wanted to start this thread now so we have an official area to post what you like and don't like so far.

How are you guys liking it so far?

I was thinking of going to a midnight release and picking up a copy, but I have finals all week and I decided that I should focus on school first rather than playing WoW. The quarter is over after this week, though, so once Saturday comes...

Looking forward to leveling legit style for the first time in 4 years once I get off of work. Although I am not looking forward to doing BC and WoTLK content again.

As my friend tells me that still plays WoW, it's epic fail right now. Right now you can only earn XP through quest turn ins, not actual mob kills.

I dont think thats true, or at least not true across all servers. When I logged in this morning before going to work one of my friends was already 81 and two were about 3 bars from 81.

I'm stuck here at work for another 3 hours, I'm gonna see how it is when I get home.

Apparently there's an issue that prevents exp gain, maybe that's where he was getting at. I won't be able to get my CE till 8 am so I'm holding out for now. Got my fill from the beta though so I know what to expect.

As you can imagine it got a bit crazy last night. XP gain was screwed up for a little bit, only like a half hour after they unlocked Cata. As soon as it worked I turned in a full book of Icecrown dailies and that got me about 30% into level 80 for my main.

From there I went to Org, which was working fine, then headed to the boat for the new Vash underwater area. That was a disaster. 100+ people all trying to save those drowning orcs, of which there are maybe 2-3 at any given time and the first person to get it wins. You need 8 or so, after a half hour I had zero. Design fail. I remember back in the day, they altered wow spawn rates to create extra monsters if they were being killed fast enough to prevent exactly this sort of opening-day gridlock; I guess they never did the same for quest objects.

I wont be able to pick it up today til after work. Two copies for me and the wife we expect to be on tonight playing but won't be able to go for a long gaming session til friday and saturday. :(

That's fine, I won't be able to play until after work today. Let the dust settle. Fighting for quest mobs and NPC's is annoying.

My character is 78 (only came back to the game a week or so ago, and was 70), so I've got a little more leveling to do in wrath content. Hopefully by the time I hit 80 (a couple days) the zones won't be so insane.

Did anyone else try to do the digital purchase and fail repeatedly? All of my credit cards and debit cards would come back with "an error has occurred." So, looks like I am buying a boxed copy after work.

Aye...

Logged in this morning for 30 minutes before work. I figured out the archeology thing. With limited areas, it is going to suck if people are trying to do it all at once. I figure to play with that and worry about leveling later.

Not true. I played last night after I got home from the store and gained tons of xp through mob kills.
Made a worgen and had a blast. Best starting area ever. Sure it was on rails but it was fast paced and epic. Good times.

Edit - I read there was an issue with XP gains on some servers and it was fixed at 12:30am

From what I understand it creates your own area on your map for artifiacts. And I think, but I could be wrong, that the artifacts you loot are only visible to you.

Not sure what you mean by all at once. The dig sites spawn randomly and endlessly for each continent after you complete a dig site. So, you can pick an choose the sites you want (the sites are specific to the type of artifacts you dig).

I can't play, at work. My copy is coming to work so it is not installed. However I am working diligently on Critter Kill Squad until that time

You could have tweaked the launcher to predownload it so all you'd have to do is enter the CD key and go. That's what I did so when I got home with my boxed copy it was already installed.

Oh well. I will probably rip the DVD to my USB thumb key, then copy to my SSD and install from there. It should not take long installing from my SSD :D

I bought mine sunday and it worked flawlessly. I remember reading the forums and seeing all sorts of posts about this - and the fact that some people were being put in a 50,000 person queue to login to battle.net - another issue I did not have. I guess I lucked out.

Anyways - does anyone else plan to level a new character first just to experience all the reworked zones instead of starting from 80? I know I cant be the only one - thats the main reason why I bought this expansion.

I've never played WOW, and I have to admit that it's chiefly the art style that's turned me off the most - also that big clunky interface that dominates the bottom of the screen.

That said...

1) How are the graphics? Isn't this game six years old now?
2) How large is the download for the entire game - I'm on a slow connection (1 gigabyte = 2 hours)
3) Can you solo? I hate... and I mean hate... having to play with other people.

Sort of. Doing both actually. Little bit of this one and a little bit of that one.

1) Graphics are actually great
2) It's flipping huge, I believe. It would take you a good part of a day to download. I'm not sure how large the download would be for you, however, most of us have 15 GB+ install directories (no idea what it is if you delete old patch date)
3) Yep, you can solo plenty. You won't experience tons of end-game though. However you can PUG end game stuff easily.

I havent played since AQ debuted. How is the raiding now? Are the 40 man days gone forever? Can non guild players even get top tier raid gear?

I wish mine would have worked. Maybe I will go buy a copy over lunch.

I resubbed and have done all the new Forsaken zones with a Forsaken Hunter up to about level 38. I would highly recommend them, especially if you did the old ones. Lots of fun, really cool. However, I will probably play my 80 rogue up to 85 before I start back on him and a Goblin Shaman.

I downloaded the client from scratch a week ago and the downloader said around 11GB. Add some 800MB if you buy Cataclysm.

i preordered it online, i'll give it a whirl later when i get home from work.

I'll roll both a goblin and a worgen. Then when the neweness of that wears off back on my 80 Pally to 85.

Raiding in Wrath wasn't much different from anything before, combo of dps race fights, some quirky shit, and running all over. I mean its a raid, they can't ever be that different.

40 mans are gone. 25 and 10 only.

Non guild players can get top gear. most gear is purchased using points you earn in heroic dungeons. You won't get epic weapons trinkets and rings as easily as armor sets, but if you're in 3/5 of something odds are you will get invited to fill in a guild's run.

can you get top tier gear without raiding? yes, go pvp

Is PvP still that stupid grinding race back when grand marshall was introduced or can you actually build up enough points over time to get stuff without being number one?

It is nowhere near as crazy as when you had that old ranking system. Arenas require a lot of strategy, skill, and some dedication if you want to be #1 though. However it is NOTHING like the days of trying to get Rank 14 Grand Marshall.

Raiding is same as it always was. Standing in fire is bad...
40 man days are over
Yeah, gear is pretty easy to gain via justice points. Though depending on servers, pugs can be good enough for raids.

Oh, that would make a difference

Not knowing the above from Archer, I assumed dig sites could vanish before you got there and/or stiff competition to claim them. I did get ~16 artifacts and 1.5 bubbles XP in 30 minutes...A good coffee time activity.

Ah ok, yeah the specific artifact locations aren't shared. Dig sites maybe, but the locations are unique per player.

Anyhow, looks like my friend couldn't get a copy of the CE. Ordered one off of newegg so I'm gonna be up to 3 days late to the party. :(

I probably won't be touching my level 80 for awhile. Going to level a goblin (class undecided) with my brother and a worgen druid on my own.

Just need to find a server for the worgen since I've been playing only horde off and on the last several years.

I think it's fair to say that you can get top gear by PUGging raids. Not sure how it was on your server but on Hyjal 10-man LK PUGs were often no problem as people were getting their alts LK gear and didn't have to spend points on it. If you know the fights and you know the class (and your server doesn't suck) then getting high end gear without being in a guild won't be an issue.

If anything Cata made it easier yet since 10 man now has the same itemlevel loot as 25 man, just drops fewer pieces per raid.

I logged in to check things out when I woke up this morning and it was total madness in Hyjal. A guildmate told me Vash was even worse. I will probably role a new non-worgen/goblin toon and experience leveling the updated zones in a less crowded environment, maybe a night elf mage or a dwarf shaman.

Lol, wow. I guess thats always been my problem with WoW. Just standing in line to grind.

Hyjal Horde? Have some 70's and an 80 over there....Hardly play them though. Play more of my alliance toons wih RL friends on Ner'Zhul. Oh and Ner'Zhul pugging was way better than Hyjal pugging. More angry players on Hyjal...I remember some douche throwing a fit because some guy came flagged to a raid. (Back when buffing spread the pvp flag....)

I played for about an hour or so this morning, wasnt bad at all (and I play on one of the oldest, most heavily populated servers) Got a little over halfway to 81 in that time. Had to stop and log on for work or I'd probably still be playing.
