A Google Street View car, while driving along capturing images of the world around it, snapped pictures of a nine year old child lying face down on the side of the street. Obviously Google did the only thing it could do in this situation…kept right on driving and didn’t report it or do anything to help. The good news is that it turned out to be a prank.

The brown-haired girl, who was wearing a pink and brown dress, was apparently dead with her legs lying across the curb and onto the road. “The worrying thing is that Google didn’t tell the police about the picture, after all they had no idea it was a prank.”

that is really strange and funny at the same time.

Trying to run this through my head. Its probably not feasible to watch for and cut out every loon who seeks out the map vehicles but how did this make it past QA?

Is this a manual process? Someone in the Google car frames a shot and snaps a shutter?

Outrage fail.

Does anyone remember the two scuba guys running down the street after the google car? The guys that drive these cars probably see this crap so much that they assume it is a prank.

I think I've seen pics with faces blurred though. Maybe that process is automated too though.

Outrage fail.

c'mon, the driver couldn't stop to check on th 9 year old face down in the street? Couldn't call the cops / ambulance? Couldn't report it to his supervisor?

...a nine year old face down in the street?

...really?

Had it been your kid face down in the street and no one said anything UNTIL it pops up on street view, your "outrage fail" attitude might be different.

...wait...were you the driver? ;)

Anyone have a link to google maps where this was located, if they haven't removed it already?

Maybe they saw him run to the street and lie down to play dead, and rolled their eyes and kept on going.

Honestly, these are pictures that happen only every few seconds as a vehicle goes down the road. It's entirely possible the driver saw in the distance the girl walk over to that spot, and lay down. (right after the same driver had somebody flash him, had two teenagers run and lay down and make out alongside the road, somebody dressed up with a horse head, and somebody got in a bear costume at the museum) You don't know what the driver might have seen or not seen.

LOL, this is too funny. I really hope Google can continue to provide great services even after being the "Mark Fuhrman" of the news lately. :D

THIS. Obvious troll.

That being said, it might have been funny to call the cops to the scene and have her explain.

Yeah exactly. I did this job before (not for google but similar photo-taking/GPS data stuff in a van with a camera mounted on it). I didn't have anyone prank me but I did have a lot of people wave, give the camera the finger, and do other sillyness. In the vehicles I used you had to go pretty slow for the pictures to come out right (20km/h was the max speed while shooting), so you usually have a long time to see what's going on in the neighbourhood around you. I would imagine the driver didn't notify anyone because they probably did see the girl up & about before or after they drove by (therefore knowing it was a prank).

As for whomever processed the pictures, I wonder if a human even goes over all the pictures when they put all this data together. I mean there is so much of it done these days, I wonder if the "post production" process isn't at least somewhat automated too. Even if someone is looking at the pictures, they probably look at so many images in the day they might not have even noticed.

Invented news about a non-reaction to a non-event troll. People who see dead kids dont drive by non-chalantly. More than likely the driver say the kid lay down, or didn't see the kid at all.
But hey! Lets drive up some drama by assuming he hates kids and watched her bleed out for giggles.

The first thing i thought is what direction is the google car moving in as depending on the direction im pretty sure it would be easy to miss someone laying there de to the red car.

But i admit i have to agree with the others on here, only the driver knows what they saw that day and its not like the google cars are hard to miss so i'm sure all the drivers have seen some people do some random and wierd things to try and get noticed

I wonder how much gas was used to produce the street views.

It's possible they didn't even see her, depending on which way they were driving she could have been totally out of the line of sight behind that car.

But thats not news! Lets assume they ran her over and took pictures for fun!

Back up to the intersection of Great House and Middle and look up the street. You can clearly see the "dead" girl sitting with a friend. The driver obviously saw them sitting there and knew it was a prank. Took me two seconds to figure out, love to see the media freaking out over nothing.

Ugh if that site was any slower

The schoolgirl who caused a storm when she was snapped lying face-down by a Google Street View camera today claimed: ”I was just playing a joke on my friend.”

Azura Beebeejaun, now 10, said: ”I didn’t know anything about the Google Street View car.

”I fell over while I was playing with my friend and thought it would be funny to play dead.

How often do you notice things around you on the side of the street?

Seriously, when driving you are paying attention to traffic. It is more likely noone would notice stuff going on on the side of the road, than that anyone would.

I certainly wouldn't notice a dead person laying on the sidewalk while driving.

This people argue that google didn't call the police. This happens all the time and no one says anything to the people that just pass by and don't call police when they see something like this. so this is not something spooky or freaky is simply a reflection of our society.

Even if this is true, which I doubt, it's nothing new. Read up on Kitty Genovese.

well I really dont like google, but maybe the driver did see the girl run and play dead on the street. seriously, an empty street like that with a girl in the middle? even if its a reflection of society in your area. there would still be people who will be looking at the girl (and I bet with a camera phone shooting away rather than calling the police. lol)

You have no idea how often people witness crimes and do nothing about it, not even bother to pick up the phone and call the authorities. Because they either assume someone already did, or don't want to get involved. You can't blame Google as a whole for the driver not acting. Besides, the guy probably did see the girl up and about and knew it was a prank.

I don't know about you guys, but when I 'm driving I watch the sidewalks for dead people, not the traffic around me. There is no excuse for the driver to have missed it, at all. None. At all. Ever. Please listen to me get indignant and cry about "saving the children" while I listen to Glenn Beck in the back ground as he speaks truth to guide my rational grievances for me.

I don't know if it is a prank or not but from the photo their looks to be blood and some brain matter on the back of the kid's head.

And then if you back it up two frames you can clearly see some sort of smoke puff by the grassy hill, and she appears to have jerked backwards and to the left before falling.

Gentlemen, we have a conspiracy!

Sorry. Not enough info for me to be outraged. Since we only know what the camera saw, not what the driver saw. I imagine that if you're a Streetview driver you quickly stop paying a lot of attention to whats going on around you.

I really think its disgusting when someone is hurt and noone goes to help them. then again there have been people pretending to be hurt or dead and when someone goes to help they get stabbed and/or robbed. Was this in a bad area? Still why did they not call 911?

Thanks for sharing, that was hilarious! I remember when Saturday night live was funny. then they all went on to make movies and/or died.
