Dell U2311H

I should have just ordered two of these when I had the coupon and kept the best one. I'm not happy with the dark cloudy right half of my screen, so it's going back. This isn't backlight cloudy (bright spots), as is normally described. These are darker, blotchy areas that are visible on lighter backgrounds. Oh well. Good luck to everyone else.

As interesting as this monitor is, all the problems being posted really are giving me a pause from giving it a try. How much is return shipping running by the way?

I'm wondering if anyone would be able to compare the response time to perhaps a monitor tested on digitalversus? Dell lists the U2311 has being slower then U2410 for instance (8ms vs. 6ms), is this the actual case and by how much?

Now that the deal is over, I think, I don't see a reason to buy the u2311H now. I'd wait.

Kind of sucks though...these 20% coupons (two of which I got today) state they're good until 7/31.

As much as I hate to say it, these U2311H's seem to be the best choice for me...I can't stand the idea of going back to TN monitors.

Related: Is there now a consensus that this one has overdrive (unlike NEC EA231WMi or the ViewSonic equivalent of the same panel)? They thought so in Flatpanelshd review and obviously the response time spec is somewhat a hint since it has been given in G2G format, while NEC and ViewSonic listed ISO time.

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews out yet. I've got my coupon and it's good until 7/31 but I want to hear more opinions first and so far there seems to be problems with every single panel.

Are there any IPS panels for under $1000 that don't have issues? I keep hearing how the U2410 has tinting issues and the NEC that uses the same panel as the U2311H would presumably have the same issues as well, and the HP ZR22W sounds like it has crappy contrast and dark levels.

It almost sounds like I'm better off just trying to find a used 2007WFP to pair up with my current one.

Looks like its out of stock, dells site is saying 3-5 weeks for shipping. The 21.5 inch one is still shipping in 24 hours. Anyone buy that one and care to comment if theres any real difference besides the size and pixel pitch?

Ouch...it's out of stock indeed. Dell's probably draining their stock to fulfill all the RMA's you guys are sending in :).

Looks like I have to go to "plan B"...wait...or get the P2210. Damn it Dell, you're making me consider a TN monitor.

My shipment has been delayed twice.

First it was delayed, expected to arrive on the 4th, not it's expected to arrive on the 9th. Probably will be delayed again.

I received mine today (in Greece). So far so good. The starting price here was very nice (which is very uncommon). I paid 240 euros including VAT when in England it costs 265GBP = 320 euros...
I don't know why the difference, but I am happy :)

One thing that disappointed me and I hope you prove me wrong, is I found no button to instantly switch sources. I want to have my PC connected to the Displayport and my consoles connected to DVI via a switcher, and I want to be able to switch between displayport and DVI kinda fast....and the way I see it now, I need to enter the menu and press around 5-6 keys before I change input which is dissapointing to say the least....

Is there any shortcut I am not aware of?

Yes. Did you even try reading the documentation?

No, it is not in printed form and I don't have an optical drive available right now (usb sticks and virtual clone drive have kinda replaced it for me heh).

Would you mind sharing the info with me?

I'm in the same boat, can't wait to get these too.

According to TFTCentral it is the same LM230WF2 panel (except for the "SLA1" part in the model name, whatever that means).

In common business parlance, SLA refers to a service level agreement. Most typically I've heard it in reference to telecom companies, where it means that the ISP in question will provide a certain uptime, guaranteed minimum bandwidth, etc. I wonder if this has something to do with a minimum performance level for the panel (response time, or more likely dead pixels / uniformity)? BTW this is total speculation, not based on any inside information.

It's actually (SL)(A1), so I doubt it has anything to do with that. It's probably just some production code. All LG panels have that format, not just the NEC. The Dell probably has the same (SL)(A1) on it.

Where does it say it with brackets, on the actual panel? If all panels really have that format, then I guess it's simply not mentioned in all other models expect for these few in TFTCentral's database. If you put "sla" to TFTCentral's panel search, it finds couple of other models, two common 24" panels and the one used in 26" WUXi2 with "SLA2". Anyway, in the database neither Dell or ViewSonic has the "SLA1", only NEC has.

Estimated ship date is showing as July 16th now! I really want one of these but waiting 7 weeks for one? That's insane....

It's not, simply a shortage from their supplier due to a surge in demand (20% coupon).

I've been waiting two weeks for my replacement to show up, so i checked my order on their website and now it says the replacement has been canceled. With the EA231WMi going up in price (not to mention it appears to have been dropped from Newegg) this is really bad news, even if i decide to get a refund instead.

Might as well contact the BBB, Dell tends to listen when someone files a complaint against them there.

Just got off the phone with Dell. They have delayed my replacement for 3-5 weeks.

When I 1st called them to arrange a replacement they told me 3-5 business days. Today would have been day 6 and they never even bother to notify me of the change or update the status on their web page that it had been delayed. I would have been sitting here waiting without a clue for almost 2 months. Then they have the nerve to tell me once I receive the new panel that I have 10 days to send it back. They have however much time they want but I get 10 days.

This is the 1st time I ever bought anything from dell. It's been one of the worst experiences I have ever had and frankly I don't care how big the coupon is, I will never shop there again.

My panel has been delayed until the 2nd week of July. Luckily mine is not a replacement, and I can wait. Still... :(

Mine still says June 9th, right... Oh well I'm going to be gone for a few weeks anyway. Hopefully they will arrive by the time I get back.

My original ship date was 5/26, then moved to 6/4, then to 6/9...and now it says 7/22!!! WTF!

More detailed review at TFT central, especially about response and input lag.

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2311h.htm

Seems good, however the problematic posts in this thread still make you wonder.
Reported tinting problems here vs. that review, I guess they simply got a near perfect unit.

At least the overdrive is now confirmed. Test images show pretty obvious difference to the NEC.

Yes, on the panel. Here's an example with (SL)(B1): http://toastyx.net/w241dg/panel.jpg

I think LG TN panels start with (TL).

I feel sorry for those who are waiting so long just to get the 1st panel. Cause you know that they will then have to wait another 2 months to exchange it.

That reminds me, gotta check on the date for my exchange (broken power button).

They got good panel or something else happened....No tinting at all..
I hope my screen dont have

They were reviewing a cherry picked panel. The best case scenario I've seen so far that other people have got is slight tinting. I haven't heard of a single person with a panel as good as the one in the review. The review has little worth because it's not a representation of what the average consumer would expect to receive.

I assume you are talking about the TFTCentral review? Before you continue crying foul over this I'll offer my $0.02

  • I know where Simon at TFT Central got the review unit, and it wasn't from Dell but a retailer. It was a normal unit of stock, sealed until opened by the reviewer. I have spoken to Simon via PM & email quite a few times and there is no reason for him to lie to me about this.
  • This is the first EU stock reviewed, it is possible that the assembly is in Eastern Europe whereas the USA stock may be from Mexico or somewhere else closer to home? This is only my speculation.
  • I do think it was just luck of the draw, experience of the 2209WA suggests UK/EU/USA get equally crappy quality control
  • Despite my complaints over the EU pricing, I have ordered a U2311H for myself. No idea when it will ship as it's currently out of stock, but I will post here about the uniformity when I receive it.
We need to see more UK & EU users posting their thoughts before we draw any real conclusions.

Fair enough. I'll take your word that the monitor reviewed was off the shelf. I'll only add that it sure was a lucky pick.

I already have received a defective panel so the waiting to draw conclusions is over for myself. I suspect others who are dealing with Dell trying to get a replacement are feeling the same way.
