8400x1050...

You've got to love the youtube comments below...

Imagine watching porn on this POS
great idia!!! it could be better though if you could make it with TV's wich don't have a frame!!!! AWESOME!!!(I should be a scientist juging by my idia)anyway cool!!! 5/5

I would be annoyed to no end having only 1050 lines of vertical resolution.

ROFL....

23 and 27 fps..on low settings? whats the point.

Did you even see what system he was running it on?

From youtube description:

"5x22" lcd cpu e5200 @ 3,33ghz + 4gb ram + hd5850 @ stock low details + 2xaa 23FPS (playable) ultra low + 2xaa 27FPS "

Hes running a freakin C2D e5200 and a single 5850 on FIVE monitors and you wonder why its low settings? I could see this setting being easily playable with eye candy on a i7 + 5970 system. If you have the money for 5 matching monitors you have the money for a 5970 + i7.

He didn't really set the settings very well. He had 2xAA which is pointless for IQ yet taxes the card enormously at nearly 9 megapixels.

not the point i was trying to make. you get a nice game like dirt 2. you get 5 screens in eyefinity, then you power it with a 5850 and a lower end machine. IMO thats like having a muscle car that you cant drive over 30km/hr....

that was kinda my point. its like putting expensive tires on a car that doesnt run.

I remember John Carmach saying that higher quality settings is better the higher resolution.

This is nothing like a simple resolution jump from 1920x1200 to 2560x1600 where the aspect ratio stays the same. Completely different.

I don't think you got his point either. I don't think he actually plays like that... he just did it to see if he could do it. I think he's working on 11000 horizontal pixels now... I don't know if he went out and bought those monitors or if he had them lying around. Either way, since he combined eyefinity with SoftTH all he'd need is a cheap 2nd card. I could in theory do the same by snagging two of my brother's monitors and his 8400 GS... but hey I'd also need a larger desk ;)

5x1 is going to ROCK.

Actually, with the same dot pitch as any other monitor, AA still would help enormously as it does in general. Just because there's more pixels doesn't mean they're closer together.... in this case they're spaced the same, and thus edges will still look very jagged without antialiasing.

Totally badass but I don't get how people put up with the amount of heat these setups put out. It's like running a space heater in the room. Maybe everyone who does this lives in cold places?

My thoughts exactly! I thought the point of widescreen was to closer match normal peripheral vision. This is just the opposite. It would be like eyes in the back of your head... nice (and awesome), but too confusing. lol :D

That's too damn awesome.. makes my desire of having three monitor 5760x1200 setup seem smaller now. Wonder if there is a way to reduce the resolution or detail level on the farther panels as you won't really focus on them at any point in the game so long as you can move the in game camera around. Definitely thinking peripheral monitors is far more immersive than single monitor 3d setups.

Or people with A/C?

Badass setup though.

ATI needs to release the damn 5870 E6 already! Stop waiting around for nVidia to release their stuff next week.

I think for what the guy has, it's WAY impressive.

EyeFinity is awesome, let me tell you.
Even my 17 year old daughter, who thinks computers are only for facebook, took a look at my setup when I was playing AvP and all she said was: "sweet".

While Eyefinity is cool, the breaks between the screens really bother me, to be honest, they look shitty. Just come out with a higher resolution monitor so we only have to have one power plug in and no breaks between the screens. What the hell ever happened to those 43" and 47" wraparound monitors that NEC and ALIENWARE were supposedly making 2 years ago? Even if they were based off of old technology, it should be easy enough to tranpose the thought to LED monitors.

I really don't understand what it taking the monitor companies so long to figure it out and move forward.

I think everyone here has tried 2xAA in most games... and the IQ difference is very low.

Personally I go with 4xAA or none at all. Also, personal experience at 5760x1080, ANY AA drops frames by a considerable amount in most games. Specifically, Dirt 2 suffers a lot from AA... which is why I made that comment.

Incredible immersion? Higher graphics settings doesn't make the game more fun.

Stuttering frames moot any immersion. Higher graphics may not make a game more fun, but frame stutter certainly makes it less fun.

All I see in this video is some idiot who spent so much money on his monitors that he couldn't afford a system to actually run them at playable settings. Sorry but for some of us 27 fps is not playable.

That said, this is the first game i have seen any potential out of eyefinity where the bezels aren't horribly distracting. I still overwhelmingly prefer a single screen, but at least in this game it isn't a major detraction. I still maintain that eyefinity is simply ahead of its time. Until manufacturers start offering bezel-less or wide aspect monitors it has extremely limited value.

I did get a good chuckle out of the porn comments. Evidently someone doesn't realize that you can't see what isn't there to see and a bezel in a bad spot and you have free censorship. :p

There wouldn't be a bezel in any spot of the actual video. just like when you have dual screens or anything like that, the picture stops at the edge of one viewable screen and starts up at the next one. you don't lose an inch or so of the picture because the bezel is there, you just have a small gap.

That's a great idea. If it were supported, I would take Kyle's intended setup and swap out the middle 24" monitor with the 30" in portrait mode. Get the 30" quality settings as high as possible by progressively reducing the settings of the outer 24" monitors, followed by the inner pair.

I'm guessing you have one monitor on your desk. Anyone who has used a multimonitor setup for a minute knows that the bezels don't matter (as much as haters say they do). Of course, the less bezels the better, so I'm half with ya. That's why I'm debezeling my screens for my 5x2 setup.

This is a great idea and would not be surprised if we see an implementation of that in the future. It would be a great bandwidth saver.

That is truly sweet! My wallet is crying for mercy as I start researching prices on NewEgg...

You can buy them now....for around $15,000. Tech is there, it is just very expensive to produce currently. It will get cheaper. Give it 8 years and it will be commonplace.

Eyefinity currently only supports identical resolutions on each panel. So no mixing in Eyefinity mode.

yes I have been saying this for some time too, make the side screens lower res. If you pretty much always look at the center screen and use the sides to help immerse yourself, those screens are "blurry" anyways, so that extra detail doesn't do much good...

of course, what likely needs to be done is the lo-level game/rendering engine needs to be re-written to do that (deal with multiple fame buffers), I don't think eyefinity or any other graphics card could do that.

It's neat to see this kind of setup, but it looks rather impractical, and the far left and far right, look like they just don't add anything, also it looks like the eyefinity isn't scaling very well as the images on the far monitors just look awkward.

Cost? 2880x900 for $8,000 ...not my kinda value play.
