Thought I'd share this as I couldn't find any subjects about it here.

Asus will be releasing a new 27-inch 120 Hz monitor called PG276H with Full HD resolution. It will be available from June 2010.

More info: Asus unveils 27-inch 120 Hz PG276H with 3D

It might replace that 24-inch that Asus seems to have postponed into forever?

Someone find the person that designed the stand for that monitor, stab them in the face, and then replace the stand with a nice height/rotate/tilt stand. Like the ones on Dell's high end panels.

I'm 99% sure that's just a demo sample and the retail product will have a lot different look. The LG 120Hz had a similar stand for its demo sample. What I'm most worried about is its color tint, ASUS usually cannot produce grey colors because the greys are blue! :p http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=150&mo1=475&p1=4860&ma2=38&mo2=631&p2=7352&ph=11

This doesn't concern all of them ofc but quite a lot of them but hopefully that's just due to panel type used.

20.000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and June? Some1 needs to fire the marketing department, you have to exaggerate it to at least 50.000 today. :D

They should have upped the resolution to at least 2560x1440. But whatever, it is nice to see a 120hz monitor this large finally available. It would be nice to plug in this bad boy just for gaming. And a rotate feature would be welcomed as well, but even the U2711 took out rotate function.

Yah, but its a tn panel, so high end doesn't really enter in the equation;)

Look like a nice monitor but even though I am in the market for a good 27" the idea of going to a smaller resolution after being on 1920x1200 for years isn't exactly appealing.

Running resolutions higher than 1920x1200 (such as 2560x1440) at 120Hz exceeds DVI, HDMI and Displayport 1.1 bandwidths. Displayport 1.2 will be able to do it, but as far as I am aware, the first 1.2 card will be the Eyefinity6 card which still isn't out yet. The other solution is to use two DVI cables, each running half of the screen, which sounds like a real kludge and may be difficult to support on the video card driver level.

If you want a 27" 2560x1440, look at the Dell U2711 thread, though it is 60Hz.

Nice, good to hear of another 120 hz panel. One step closer to getting rid of all 60 hz ones. :D

Sure the stand looks like crap and it's probably a TN panel geeezz

However I like the resolution. Finally a large screen with the possibly to actually read the default font ;)

Yeah, actually reading text on a 27" at 1920x1080 res is the same or a little larger than reading text on a 22" with 1680x1050 res. If it was 2560x1440, I might as well get the 30" with 2560x1600 res.

I don't mind TN's at all, but 27" TN might be pushing it a bit... will probably have to sit a good 5-6 ft away as to not get to much color shift (with and optional f).

It's not that bad. I have the 27" ASUS MT276HE and the color shifting from the vertical angle is not as bad as my other Hanns-G 28" with the 1920x1200 resolution.

1920x1080 at 27" and TN? Too big for that resolution and panel type, no thanks :(

very nice :) I've been wating for larger 120hz displays to hit the market

can't wait to see some reviews

Nevermind this hehe. I have a 27" 16:9 lcd and a 22" 16:10 monitor side by side. When I drag the same window to each monitor, size wise, it's practically the same size. I'm not referring to the resolution in comparison with the size of the lcd screen. I'm just referring to what you see on the monitor side by side. I mean its obvious a 24" with 1920x1200 resolution will have a higher pixel density than a 27" with 1920x1080 resolution. But, visually, the text you see on the 24" will be smaller than the 27"

Quoting a post I made in a different thread, and adding 27" 1920x1080:

Lower pixels per inch (ppi) = larger text:

27" 1920x1080 = 81.6 ppi
27" 1920x1200 = 83.9 ppi
19" 1280x1024 = 86.3 ppi
25.5" 1920x1200 = 87.1 ppi
17" 1280x800 = 88.8 ppi
19" 1440x900 = 89.4 ppi
22" 1680x1050 = 90.1 ppi
20" 1600x900 = 91.8 ppi
24" 1920x1080 = 91.8 ppi
24" 1920x1200 = 94.3 ppi
20.1" 1680x1050 = 98.4 ppi
30" 2560x1600 = 101.0 ppi
27" 2560x1440 = 108.8 ppi

Pixel Size Calculator

Therefore, this monitor will probably have the largest dot pitch available in any LCD monitor. 1080p LCD TVs 32" and up will, of course, have extremely large dot pitches (a 65" LCD TV would have a dot pitch of 33.89 ppi, lol).

Like some of you mentioned I fear the viewing angles on a 27-inch TN. Asus have had some fair monitors in the past years but 27-inch TN seems a bit too large.

I hope 120 Hz VA/IPS monitors will arrive soon.

A 16:19 27" LCD is almost identical in height to a 16:10 24" LCD.

What's nice about the pic when I think about it. It displays a black background and I cannot see any backlight bleed. Ofc light, camera, angles etc factors all play their part here but you could definitely see the severe BLB problem in that environment too on my VX2268wm has that is the only issue I'm having with it.

The thin bezel is also a plus, I hope they keep it like that for the retail product and ofc replace this demo sample's stand with something more practical. :p

http://www.istartedsomething.com/20061211/vista-dpi-scaling/ ;)

high dpi is also good for older games that does not support native resolution, or if you have to run at lower resolution due to to slow 3d card. When you have used high dpi for a while you don't really want to go back.

I hope for a 1920x1200 120hz 24" monitor. the 1080 HP 2309v 23 inch we have ast work is just too wide  Still I might change my lacie 22" with a used Sony FW900.

Any new developments on this? Any article that I can find is old (as in the summer) so I'm looking for a more recent update on the progress of this release.

If you guys know of any suitable 120Hz >24" alternative, I'd love to hear it.

More bad news,

I contacted Asus support and they responded quickly saying later 2010 early 2011.

To be honest this cat and mouse game is just too long. Who is to say they won't just postpone it again? It's almost half a year since the initial claimed release date and yet they have postponed it again.

I' just saying, I've settled for the, "F*** this im getting a monitor NOW"

...and also, being the first of its kind, you can't expect it to be flawless. Look at the viewsonic that claims "1ms response time ZOMFG". With a little bit of digging you find out that the monitor is sh**, with a lot of overdrive trailing and green tint. Point being, you don't usually go out a buy the first ever 3d tv do you? No, you wait and see for a while. I believe this will be the same with a new series of 27"+ 120hz monitors. Acer is also claiming to be releasing a 27" 120hz early 2011 (some even say it will arrive before the asus). Oh and sorry for now links, I have been doing the research for this thing for about three weeks now (getting prepared for black ops) and decided it's not worth the wait, at least not now anyway. Good luck with your decision, but yeh.... I cbf waiting.

Feels like history is repeating itself. Asus announced and showed the first 22" 120Hz LCD monitor, but then never released it to market, leaving Samsung and Viewsonic to release their versions a full year later. Asus eventually released a 23" 120Hz monitor.

Only difference this time around is that no other monitor company seems to be talking about a 27" 120Hz monitor. I have to wonder if TN viewing angles at 27" screws up 3D.

QFT. Dell's 27" 2560x1440 panel looks nice.

I whole heartedly agree with this. I just received my U2711 and its NICE. No dead pixels ( I got lucky!) and doesn't seem like I suffer from any problems documented by other members. I don't feel any input lag (maybe if I pair it up against my old samsung TN it might have slight, but I seriously do not notice ANY at all in FPS games etc, and I do play competitively from time to time).
