The Next Chapter of Eve: Dominion

Ahhh, bloody filthy hell.....When am I going to learn that Iceland and this game is a day ahead of me....kinda. They say Tuesday, I think "MY" tuesday. Glad I already had an 11 day skill training. Had 6 days left as of last night when I logged off. Commonnnn T2 drones....woohoo!!!

Lets talk about Drones a moment :)

Just prior to throwing in the skill for T2 drones, I had completed all the needed skills to use those ECM, Web and Tracking Drones. Does anyone use these? How do you like it? Is it worth using one of them in lieu of a combat drone?

So far, all ive used are the Heavy ECM drone and the Tracking drone. TBH, I hadnt noticed much effect, but then again, I could be using them wrong, which in all likelyhood, I probably am. So, whats the skinny on these little boogers?
Since I fly a Drake in level 4's, I need all the DPS I can get so I only fly combat drones ATM, but a tackle drone sure would come in handy against some of those heavy tanking, defender spewing battleships that like to stay out at 52km.

Never seen or used them. I only see and use combat drones and sentry drones. Then again there's always a first time and I do miss a few things during combat.

I have and do use some types of these drones.

ECM- These do not work on NPC's But in PvP they work well. Use the smalls and Med.
TP- These work on NPC's and in PvP. They work quite well on small ships when your running Med/large weapons.
SD- There a wast, do not use.
TD- These work on NPC's and in PvP. They work quite well
SW- These are a waste, Do not use.
EV- These do not work on NPC's. These are good when you have some one pined down in a fast ship.

Drone Skill hints......
Don't train Drone navigation to 5
Do train Drone Sharpshooting to 5
Do not train mining drone operation in less you plan on using them with a combat ship. When used with a mining barge, they will leave you defenseless.

I have a few more hints ill post tomorrow, its 3am here and my eyes are bleeding.

Well I bit on the $5 steam offer for EVE and hopefully I'll learn how to play this game by 2012 lol.

"Thank you" to those who posted their opinions earlier on in this thread.

Good luck with the game! Remember: We're always here to help in this thread.

Not gonna loan you any money though :D

Thanks for the replies about the drones.

So, what Im starting to see here is that these types of drones, though usable in missions, are more suited to being used in PvP when there is only one or a small handful of pilots your going against, otherwise, stick with the combat drones. That about sum it up?

Since I couldnt play the game last night, instead, I finally watched the fanfest 2009 videos and without trying to sound too much like a fanboy ( :) ) Ive got to say I really liked what I saw. Im also thinking I might have to eat my words about what I said about Dust 514 a while back. Some very interesting shit now that you get to see it in action.

That 3D fitting screen looked damn awesome and that new UI and new web browser looked real sharp as well. Cant wait for tonight when I get to try it out.

On that War-Dec stuff though....I read that alot of corps dont want you to log on when Decced. <---Aside from being attacked, why is this? I mean, how can ya get anything done if you cant even log in your character to play? If I was in a Corp and they got Decced, then told me not to log in, Id probably leave that Corp.

Yeah, leave the corp. But first, stock up and fit a bunch of frigates and see if you can get some 1v1s with the attacking corp. Lose frigs, ask them for advice and if they're not dicks they'll chat with you. Maybe you'll get podded (how in effing hell to people manage that in hisec unless it's a SB BS gank?)

Use Warrior IIs to get Intys to fuck off. Interceptors are usually a point ship for something else that will do DPS.

My question: Say you're in a neut BS (read: Domi) would it be comedy gold to send a stack of webbers against an Inty and then MWD/neut/scram/pwn?

a: yes, yes it would be funny...

but just eft'ing it.... 5x SW-0900 web drones wouldn't really take the inty below 2km/s and thats assuming they caught up with the inty, so still keep orbit & tackle on you (assume dedicated/bonused inty tacklers). warriors and heavy neuts really..

Yeah, I see what you guys are saying about the Ewar Drones vs. Missions. Wouldnt do a whole lot of good if I have 6 ships shooting at me and only one or 2 ecm drones going after them. Id still get shot. Im thinking though, they might come in pretty handy once I actually have a ship I can do L4's in. Send them after the BS's while I take care of the others. I guess I could probably use 5 ecm drones, but then I would loose my dmg drones and I dont think I want to do that.

I look forward to being able to use those Sentry Drones. I read that they dont fly around, they just sit where ever you launched them and have to be scooped back up afterwards. I think I have just the job for those boogers......SHOOTING DOWN AND DESTROYING MISSLE SILOS!!!!!!!

200MB downloaded.....200mb to go for the patch. Im actually feeling excitement atm. Hands are kinda shaking. I havent felt this must anticipation for something is quite a long time. Its like Im getting an early Xmas present to open the night before Xmas :)

Download Completed :) and installed. Now, I feel like that lady on that commercial for Marshalls.....you know the one....where its real real early in the morning and she is already at the stores front doors with her face plastered to the window saying "OPEN OPEN OPEN"....

Check the top speed of the web drones, they won't catch anything.

+3.5km/s with a few nav comps & a 12.5k optimal.... gimped and def not great, but do-able for a lol..... anyway agree they crap, not worth the drone bay.

Posting this from within the Eve browser. lol

Only issues I've had are crash to desktops when trying to join a channels audio, or view the audio options.

But things seem nice. More stars, nice looking planets. Now to go hop in my manticore and screw with people. lol

Ingame browser is still ftl, oog wins due to Adblock + Noscript etc.

I heard something about "taking spread sheets out of the game" somewhere. Does this mean it's easier to get into with this patch?

EVE really isn't about spreadsheets, it's usually simple minds who write stuff like that. Yes, you need to put thought into EVE, not just aimbot and fire, but EVE is one of the few games where you proportionally get out what you put in.

Meh, not my game then :p Was looking for a space exploration/shooter game with a community, but nothing complicated

I didnt get a chance to do much in the game when it first went online today. Saw some planets and some moons. What can I say.....they look cool. First time I had ever actually taken the time and warped to each and every single planet in a system as well as their moons. Very nice stuff to see.

Got a chance to chat to Mashie there for a bit before I had to go, that was cool :)

Will be logging in here shortly to have "MY" fun......finally. Lookin forward to trying out that browser and the new Jukebox. <---will have to figure out how to get my music from CD to mp3 format I guess, I dunno.

Oh, and hey guys.....Dont hold back on those new screen shots. I only took a few, but they didnt come out the way I wanted them to....Seemed like earlier, no matter where you went, planet or moon, there was already someone there admiring the view too. I tried to get a few shots of a ship just starting to go into warp, but is still there....kinda. I guess the screenshot button was a bit lagged out earlier cause the shots I ended up with were of the ship already gone, just a tiny dot in the horizon. Next time, Ill try and take that shot a second or 2 earlier...or hell, just spam the damn thing, hehe.

Hey Bro.....Before you say your not interested, why not go ahead and take the time to try out the 2 week trial? Its free and no commitment attached, skills go up without you being online to raise them. Just play when you want.

"Complicated" is rather relative, ehh?

I will say this about EVE though......It aint easy.

I got on today and shot some rats and whatnot and the 1st thing I noticed when undocking is that they changed the fov a bit. Stations feel more "real" now. I didn't notice any major changes, but then again I'm not playing the territory game right now ether. I'm interested to see what happens with T2 and T3 pricing with the new material systems, it might be time for me to grab the skill books for strat cruiser.

Welp, played all night long......

The only problems I have is that my IGB doesnt work......at all!!!!

I can click on it all day long and nothing will ever pop up. No screen, nothing at all. Links to web pages dont work either.

Aside from that, everything else seems to work fine. Loving the new planet graphics and moons too. Very nice detail.

Got inside another BC tonight all in behalf of a fellow [H]'er....Thanks again bro.....Will make sure I hang onto this one "longer" :)

Apparently there's an issue where a dictor bubbling anywhere on a grid will cancel your warp if you warp through that grid.

New browser is orders of magnitude better than the old one. I won't use it for casual browsing, but it'll be great for looking up killboards, POS managers, and other stuff from "trusted" sites.

I always wondered if people ran midpoint camps in systems with a gate-to-gate midpoint of > 14AU. I guess it's easier just to camp a gate so you can roam more easily, catch more people etc.

Which brings up another question - how far away can a bubble pull you in? I was under the impression that you had to hit the boundary but someone parked one 30-40 km off a gate and warping to 0 on the gate sucked me in. Fortunately there was nothing else but the bubble but BC with no AB meant a long, tense slowboat back to the gate. I think I tried warping to the gate at 10 with the same results.

I started EVE right at the Apocrypha rollout and IIRC there were a couple of emergency crashes/patches along with a series of weekly bugfix patches. I expect the same here--it just happens with code rollouts this big.

All in all, Dominion looks great, great IGB, e-mail is... better. Hell, it's just nice to have a new spash screen because I was getting tired of seeing blue clouds. The changes seem to be well anticipated with a few major exceptions. IMO it's nice to have a 0.0 oriented patch to lay the groundwork for continued tweaking.

[edit] It would be nice to see CTRL+tab configurable to chat channels only (or whatever trips your trigger). Kinda useless imo.

[editedit] Ran a mission, corp taxes show up in the wallet. That's going to be interesting with the new exploration system. I'd love to see some moongoo vs. corp tax income numbers in about six months.

I logged in yesterday and let the patcher run while I went to get groceries. When I got home the patch had finished but my trial account expired. D'oh!

Decided to spend the $20 anyway. I'm not sure if I like the new starfields... the old ones were a lot more colorful albeit unrealistic. Planets are better sure, but I don't really spend much time looking at them anyway. IGB is worlds better than before, but still too slow for casual browsing. Jukebox doesn't recurse subdirectories so it's pretty useless for my music library so back to Winamp I go. I definitely noticed the change in FOV in that it seemed a lot narrower than before. ctrl+leftclick+rightclick helped widen things out a bit.

Corp taxes on the newbie corp seem like an ISK sink... so I guess I might as well join a player corp finally so my taxkredits go somewhere meaningful. Know of any good newb-friendly corps? I'm mainly interested in running missions right now but learning how to survive outside high-sec would be nice.

How are your Amarr standings?

I spend about 14 hours in game yesterday (took off from work, etc.) and I have to say out of all the recent large patches this one was the smoothest deployment. The missing mothership changes do sour it somewhat, and we will need to wait till the 8th and thereafter to see whether station ping-pong will become a reality, but overall I am pleased with Dominion.

I'm Caldari, and have been doing missions for Caldari Navy. My Amarr standings are low, but positive, which is better than I can say about Minmatar or Gallente which are both around -2.5.

Hey Gang....

I was wondering if any of you have a problem with the IGB not opening? Mine doesnt open whatsoever. I click and click and click but no screen ever pops up and clicking links does nothing either. Ive already sent in a Petition, a Bug Report and made a post at the "Issues" section of the EVE forums. I have not gotten one reply back yet.

I use XP, Firefox and NOD32. Apocrypha's browser, though slow, worked fine....Dominion, doesnt work at all.

I was curious if maybe Im supposed to "allow" Dominion settings inside of NOD32 or what? <---Never had to do anything to it before hand, so Im thinking I dont now, but thought Id ask.

Anyone got an idea of what I can do?

I rarely used the IGB in Apocrypha, so its no biggy I cant use it now, but, just the same, now that I know it doesnt work, its like a loose hair down the back of my shirt, I cant just ignore it.

PS - ITS SNOWING IN HOUSTON!!!!!!!! WOOOOT!!!!!!! :)

What? No replies?? I guess that IGB works so well for YOU guys, you never leave the game anymore, hahaha.....errr, wait a sec...something wrong with that logic.

Well, the browser wasnt a big deal anyways, always alt-tabed out before, can do so now. Thought maybe someone would have an idea of a fix for it. Anyhooo....

Been scannin the EVE forums (as I always tend to do), reading about how this guy does this....this guy over here does that...lots n lots n lots of stuff to do in EVE, be it for profit or for fun. I was kinda curious about what my fellow [H]'ers do when ya'll log in?

Do you already have a set plan, and idea or goal to achieve each time you play or do you just log in and do whatever?

Myself....Im more of the "do whatever" type. I never really have a plan list of things to do, I just kinda feel my way around.

I was just wondering what you guys do when you log in. Do you already know what your going to do? Do you set any goals, such as....Im going to make 10 mil before I log tonight...or...Im going to make this 24 jump with all this cargo. I was just curious :)

My IGB works fine.

As for what I so...I am very planned.
Got training planned for +1 year now, I do stuff in my own 1 man corp (taxes go to ME)...primary goal now:
To get L4's with proper skills, so L4's can fund all my fun.

I login, see if there's any fleets up (roams, defenses, patrols, HED runs, etc), if no fleets, I rat. No real goals per se.

I wonder whats wrong with my IGB then? A few other people have been having the same problem, so Im guessing its not on my end, or is it? Do you guys think I should go into NOD32 and tell it to ignore EVE and anything associated with it? Would that help at all or should I just stick it out and wait and hope CCP makes a fix for it?

have NOD32 ignore it and see what happens. If nothing changes, NOD32 isn't the issue.

Yesterday when the server crashed, I rebooted my computer, and upon coming back, MSE asked if it could send the details of eve.exe to Microsoft so they can look at it and determine the status of the file. Was pretty cool, but I wonder what that crash did to cause that.

Ive been curious about Eve for awhile and just jumped into a 14 day trail. I haven't played many MMOs (just SWG Pre CU) and after maybe an hour or so (been busy the last 4 days) I'm not sure about it... It seems so big and so over my head. It just feels like it will take me forever to grasp the game.

Idk.. I want to play the game, love the concept and how its only 1 server... just dont know where to turn. Any suggestions for a novice?

Run some tutorials to get a better grasp.
These might also help:

Do the tutorial. The whole thing. That should give a good introduction to the game and help you decide what you want to do.

Stick with it for a bit if it interests you at all. It's a bit daunting at first, but once you play for a bit things will start to click and makes sense. It's nowhere near as overwhelming as you might first think.
