This isn't really tech related but I am interested in what you guys think about Disney acquiring Marvel. I have my personal thoughts on it but I wanted to hear what you had to say about the deal. Thanks to forum member MrSteel74 for the link.

Building on its strategy of delivering quality branded content to people around the world, The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment, Inc. in a stock and cash transaction, the companies announced today.

Hmmm... I am a bit torn on this... Disney in my opinion hasn't produced a good "cartoon" animated movie for any age group in many years.

On the flip side, Marvel loves reboots and never ending storyline for their comics, and we all know much Disney loves rehashing old content...

Hey, I loved Alladin 4: Jafar Gets Glasses.
Or
Cinderella 4: 3 Kids and 50 Pounds Later
or
Snow White 2: What Really Happend in the House of the Dwarfs!

Except to see,

Mickey as Spider Man (or Mouse)

Donald as Iron Man

Goofy as Wolverine

:p

NOOOO...

Hmm, if we kill all the disney people will marvell be a enourmous company that makes the theeme park really cool ?

Imagine disney world in marvel style :D

Dunno if it will be RIP Marvel, hope not!

Hell just phoned, wanted to know if its as chilly up here as it got down there

Hmmm Disney has produced some things that had sort of an adult twist on it but their name was nowhere to be seen on it. I'm not a comic book fan but I have been interested in some of the other works.

I just don't know how bad or good this would be.

Disney vs. Capcom?
a Studio Jibli Marvel film? I dunno

Then again the fact that Square Enix had a deal with Disney could mean that we would never see another Marvel vs Capcom again and who knows how normal people are going to like the Halo Anime.

Well now they can make Wolverine killing all the Disney characters and not get in trouble for licensing issues.

We'll see how that goes. We all know what happened between Disney and Pixar. Disney went all PC on Pixar and asked them to tone down on their animation where violence and actions are concerned. Pixar told Disney to cork it, and then pulled out.

Pixar and Disney renegotiated and Disney agreed to let Pixar do what they want to an extent, and now they're back together again.

If Disney tries to make Marvel comics rated G, it's going to piss off a whole lot of people.

When I read the article my heart sank. Been a comic fan for the last 25 years and Marvel has always been my choice. This deal can go one of two ways either:

A. Disney stays out of Marvels business and let them keep doing what they do.
B. We will see Spider-Man and Mickey Mouse team up.

As much as I am hoping for A I'm sad to say choice B is the far more likely one. Yes Disney does own a few studios that have released movies that are far from the Disney norm but none of those properties have the instant near world wide recognization of characters such as Spider-Man, Wolverine and several others.

And....So it begins. Marvel was on the slippery slope as it was. now the grade just increased by Infinity and Beyond(tm).

so much for me enjoying any of their comics anymore. Sad day for sure :(

Marvel has always aimed their movies towards family-friendly and mass appeal, usually butchering the story in the process. It's why Xmen and Spider-Man blew so much.

Doesn't excite me, but I don't really see how this can negatively effect Marvel's movies. Perhaps Disney's large wallet and in-house talent/resources can even improve Marvel.

Oh no. Now it makes sense why I was flipping through the channel guide the other night and saw something about the Fantastic Four on the Disney Channel. Cause I was like WTF? This is bullshit. Man. Is nothing sacred anymore? Marvel has been kicking DC to the curb for years. Some people may not like a lot of their story arcs, but I do. This is not good. I guess I'll have to watch for cameos from the seven dwarves or some other Disney product placement bullshit. It's bad enough I have to see ads for the little kiddies to drink their milk, but this won't bode well at all.

I'd be nice if they kept the two seperate, but that may not happen.

You could make up a lot of porn titles with this merger:

The Silver Surfer, Captain America and Snow White in "Three Best Friends"

Ok serious question.

Goofy VS Captain America

Who would win?

I don't know why anyone thinks this is goign to change much except for maybe universal. BFD. Everyone keeps thinking Disney is going to make it sing alongs or whatever. Disney is the big overall umbrella but Disney is Miramax or ABC whatever. It's not like Disney JUST makes family friendly stuff. Just the actual Disney logo you don't get that association.

Dunno, Spiderman being mocked in the next Shrek film sounds interesting..

Hmm, so what is going to come out of all of this? A company now owned by higher executives... a way to line their pocket book and another hand in the honey jar. The servings just got a little thinner for everybody else.
Most of the entertainment biz owned by one company? Is it Doomsday yet?
