I just got a renewal notice in the mail that my Technet subscription will be expiring at the end of May.

Just wondering if anyone has any insight if this offer will be honored again for 2009?

Thanks!

Hahah Me too, and 260 bucks or so to renew it right? We most likely jumped at the same deal ;), but yea same, hoping it comes back!

ditto. I let mine expire cause i'm getting win 7 on msdnaa.

i'll probably renew next year with office 14

i plan on buying win7 for my htpc... other then that, vista is still going to rule my house...

damn i thought this was a post for the 99$ subscription again, like you all, mine expires in May.

Last I read, (can't remember the source,) MS wasn't going to do the $99 deal again based on student abuse, (buying the subscription then selling the software licences seperately.) Ya never know though, they could change their minds.

Damn idiots have to screw it for us :(. And I am a student and I use it for testing and studying, especially virtualization. :(

Yup, virtualization is my primary use for it too. There is a lot of stuff I'd never get a chance to try out without it. I really like to keep my skills up to date over a wide variety of areas, even if it isn't related to my current work at all.

I was talking about TechNet with a coworker and he said he was able to find a $100 off coupon via a google search. I realize its no $99 deal, but its better than full price!

Is the technet subscription site down? A few people I know have been saying they cannot open a new subscription for the last couple of days... blank pages, web site errors, infinitely repeating refreshes...

Technet in general has been hit hard since the W7 RC came out yesterday.

They have the $100 coupons every so often, and they've never worked on renewal subscriptions for me - only new ones. So basically, they discount the price of a new subscription to the price of a renewal subscription.

I got an email today offering 15 months of Technet for the $249 price, good till the end of June.

I would love to get in on the $99 subscription if it comes back up.

Did that email off a coupon code? They're usually not sent to just one person, obviously... not specifically coded for any given individual... sooo... what's the coupon code? :D

No code, just renew your existing subscription before the end of June and get 3 free months.

If i get a subscription and install a piece of software, once the subscription is up the license of my software is invalid correct, or can I keep it?

No the key is good as long as you use the install files you downloaded from Technet. The key's are only good for Technet software.

Technet and MSDN licenses can't be used for production environments, but don't expire
Action Pack licenses can be used in production environment, but do expire if you don't renew
Either way, when you stop paying you can't get anything new or grab anything you didn't already get.

I'll have to keep any eye out for that 15 month deal, sounds good to me!

Hey guys, what is Technet actually?

i see many of you are talking about office software and microsoft software in general, so is it like a place where i just sign up yearly and get access to all of microsofts software?

Not ALL of it, hell no, not even close, but pretty much everything directly related to Office and their operating systems, to a great degree. But no, it doesn't include everything that Microsoft makes...

Still a great value for serious enthusiasts even at the $249 discounted rate (if you can locate a coupon).

yeah i went to that site before posting, but after some more searching through it i see that it has just about everything microsoft related :D

But as for the software, are all the editions Ultimate, like for the OSs?

And is there any advantage or disadvantage as to me buying a Technet subscription and getting all my MS software, or just buying retail?

Oh, is there anything big that i might still need that not included?

Reading is your friend.

From the site...

Windows Vista
Ultimate/Enterprise/Business/Vista Home Basic/Home Premium

There are a few codes floating around that bring the price down to just under $300 for new members, cant find anything better right now.

so I guess the consensus is don't wait for another amazing $99 deal, just renew for $250 ?

That's what i'm seeing so far. 249.99 is not a bad deal IMO. Only 99$ would be a smoking deal! I'd settle for a good $150 if it exists.

Yea, you can buy one retail copy of the software for what a Technet subscription gets you ;)
So Technet is a much better deal (Though not "technically" for use in production environments).

I've still NEVER signed up for my own TechNet Subscription, I'd like to... I'm hoping this comes around in June again!

A bunch of these codes still work, at 'least one of 'em works for new subs too, though I think it was only 20% off (which brings it to $280), some are on the verge of expiring too. YMMV

Wow, they are really desperate now! I actually got a really irritating phone call from these people. Here I am at work & an 866 # appears on my cell. I pick it up thinking it's a vendor calling me about an order or something. After I pick it up, I immediately am bombarded by 'HOLD MUSIC' without any announcements of who it is or why they are calling. About 30 seconds later a lady by the name of Maxine comes on and proceeds to first, butcher my name & secondly had no friggin clue what an MCSA is (I'm almost completed with my cert tests).

After she pitches me from almost every angle about the $250 offer (the same as the reminder emails), I start hammering her on the $99 student promo & she informed me that they did just discuss it the day before in a meeting & it wouldn't be offered this year. I then asked if there was somebody else I could speak to that might be able to swing it for me. She passed on an '800' number and suggested I call it.

Well, I call the number & all it is is the Microsoft Technet Customer Service line. I start hammering her about the $99 deal & she to tells me that they aren't going to be offering it. Not satisfied with her answer, I ask if she could provide me with the territory rep as I thought they have to have tons of promotional stuff. She told me that there is no such thing.... FFS!!!!! Do I have to tell them that I'll find other means of using their software?

Oh well.. I'll live with what I have I guess. $250 right now isn't very feasible.

Haha. Stay on it, and let us know if you make any progress.

I too have been getting the calls. My subscription lapsed and they're trying to tantalize me by offering the $250 renewal price as a "new" subscription. BFD

The people I've heard from so far are so terribly foreign (Indian, I presume), that, I'm not kidding, the dude called it "Net tech"

I've gotten a couple follow up calls since then, offering the $250 price. I might take the indignity (lol @ the irony) approach and hold out for the $99 price. Then, if I don't get it, I'll probably re-up when Win 7 hits retail.

2 years wouldent be to bad for that price... but all I got was the 12 months for $250 plus an extra 3 months, and my sub is up on the 2nd

We all got that offer, and honestly I love Tech Net, I read the magazine, been virtualizing and getting aquainted with alot of software, but a $250+ yearly subscription is to high, it needs to top at 150, and its great for 99, at worst, I'd pay 250 for two years, but 250 for a year is way to high, especially in this economy, even with the extra 3 months. Comon Tech Net! Theres alot of people, needing this.

As most of us will be migrating everyone else to Windows 7, and it would behoove us all alot to have access to Tech Net, so we can help "spread". Honestly they need to get this lower, seriously.
