I filled the bottle with a little water and its a solid stand, works well, much easier to position the antenna now. I just wish I could make it tilt up and down somehow, I have an idea for a telescopic stand, but that's for part 3. :)

This isn't mine, it's my roommate's. He bought an 8800GTS (G80) and a Shuttle Glamour case.

Didn't quite fit.

That's a pretty ghetto cut, that case isn't glamourous anymore.

For examples of how to do this in a posh way, check out the SFF forums.

this is the "ghetto" mod thread. if he wanted to do it nice then he would have. :)

like the either electrical tape or paint on the edges.

2.5 food stamps

(rarely seen in the wild) this one is the king of ghetto.. which all posting in this thread should thrive for.

Wow...just wow.
/thread.

See i don't know why some of my tech support customer's don't have internet. I bet u $200 this guy is downloading pr0n as we speak.

I'm back again with another waveguide antenna! This time I used different connection components, other than that, the coffee can is the same size and the mount bottle is different.

As you can see, I used mostly hot glue in and out to hold the cable in there. I used a short length of coaxial hook-up cable, chopping off one of the connector ends, making it the required 1.21", and stuck it in the can. After that, I used the original 4db omni that the Edimax adapter came with, hacked off the end, and married it to the other connector end of the coax. After 3 tries with heat shrink, I settled on a more ghetto combination of Electrical tape, packaging tape, and a couple zip ties to seal the deal. Now it's a solid end connection, ghetto looking, and working awesome :D.

The improvement in Ghetto Waveguide V2 is that now I have a flexible SMA cable connection instead of being welded to the can directly.

Parts cost: $0

hmm wtf? i know this pic so long ... and didnt the pic was already posted in this thread? ^^

Heh, well, turns out that THAT didn't work out either. I ended up using a different end.

Sometimes I think this thread would be better named the Macgyver mod thread so the more creative (but still makeshift and improvised with raw materials) mods would still be valid and not derided as not deserving of foodstamps.

My workstation upgrade, doubing as HTPC while I install all the necessities on the os drive..

Oops, I did it again... Q6600 @ 3GHz, running boinc (rosetta@home)

Had to use an old case while waiting for some new parts to arrive.

Hard drives mounted in 5 /12 bay under dvd (one side screwed ftw), downslide was they kept overheating. So what does one do? add some fans of course.

LOL, good to see someone getting back to this thread's roots... Even the picture quality is ghetto!
5/5 Foodstamps!

Adding my psu mod to this thread, since using Velcro makes it Ghetto :D

==========

I figured I may not be the only person with a 1 kilowatt proXstream PSU. For those unaware, the thing is as loud as a bag of hammers in a clothes dryer.

Since I don't mind invalidating my warranty, I figured I'd share with everyone yay!

Here we have my handy 2 year old assistant eying up the Coolermaster Evo and the 80 mm to 120 mm adapter.

psu4.jpg

Yes Pinky, this will help us in our next plan...

psu01.jpg

This 120 mm pushes 110 CFM with all of 38 db or so. Obviously this will be mounted outside the PSU (and case).

psu5.jpg

This 80 mm will be VELCRO'd to the opposite end of the psu. The lovely rear of the unit (heh, I said unit) has plenty of slots for air to be pushed through to the 120.

psu11.jpg

This is the old 80 mm fan that was inside the unit. God bless ya if you can find exact numbers on it, because I couldn't. Nearest specs I could find said it pushed 64 CFM with 53 db of ear banging noise.

As you can see, I've snipped it from the shell so that I'll have a funnel for the air to leave the psu.

psu9.jpg

Inside the noisy beast. Other than the insane fan in the box, my only other complaint would be the sleeving on the cords. It doesn't quite extend into the case.

Once I started snipping and splicing with electrical tape (and heatshrink) for some reason, the 120 just wouldn't run using the line from the psu. Fan would budge at start up, then sit still. Same with another 80mm that I tried. On the other hand, everything ELSE would keep running.

So I decided to run the 120 from a lead inside the case.

(Note: Velcro is an amazing thing.)

And the last shot!

Everything is up and running. No temp readings on the PSU, because I didn't take any ahead of time.

I can say for sure that there's more airflow going through it now, with the 120 pulling and the 80 on the other end pushing, rather than a single NOISY 80 trying to do all the work.

My PC is very quiet now as well. There was a slight rattle around the PSU before, but that's gone also.

Kuyt reminded me of this little number I did when I was running a DFI Lanparty UT with an Athlon 3400+ newcastle. The outside temp was about 20 degrees Fahrenheit and I installed an 80mm fan in the end of a dryer tube, and stuck the other end over the fan on my heatsink. I wish I had some temperature screen shots on that setup, I can't remember how well it worked

wow

I thought taking the side off my case and leaving the window open when it was cold was ghetto.. but that... is awesome

Yeah, the wires that you see on the window sill go from the fan in the top of the tube over to an old AT psu that is sitting a little farther down on the window sill.

haha, i was totally into everything UV when I had that computer, the motherboard had UV reactive paint on all the connectors and slots, I had UV fans, UV CCFL's, UV Wire loom.... Some pretty trippy stuff

why dont you put your computer outside while your at it. :p

I actually did that in freezing weather. I took the entire freaking setup outside while it was like 24F. I got the CPU temp so low that the DFI monitoring software bugged out and read 255C, so whenever the temp went subzero it would register incorrectly. I got it to around 3.9 GHz (E2160 iirc) @ 8-10C loaded before it went unstable. I also overclocked the 8800GT I had, and it ran around 9C idle and 15C load.

I'm moving to Canada or Iceland one of these days just so I can overclock my computer for free :).

Wow, I am not the only one that is addicted to that stuff! I drink it daily... so good...

I actually was buying the Arizona Rasberry tea in bulk at my local gas station. I cleared em out every night. I've now switched over to the Lipton pure leaf black tea since I moved and the locals don't carry Arizona. :( ...The only time I manage to get Arizona now is when Walgreens has them for the 2 for $1 deal. Enough of tea though!

BTT.. I wish I had a picture, but with my old Dell, I taped 2 fans into it using a crap load of Polyken white tape. My microphone also broke so that got the Polyken white tape treatment as well.

I wanted just to ask you somethink and the other one who have maked a PC in somethink like that and posted here:
Isnt it a bit dangerous with the temperature build a pc inside of somethink like that?
