Hello guys,

I want to get back into gaming, I have not play games for like 1 years. My last game was WOW, lol. There no good games on PC anymore, it all about FPS and I think it get really old. So I want to buy a gaming console either Xbox360 or PS3, I heard good stuff and bad stuff about both system. Which one do you guys recommend?

Follow the games. Look at what games, that you are interested in, are available on what system. The one with the most games you want wins that point.

Is Bluray important to you? If it is then PS3 gets that point

Is HDDVD important to you? If it is then 360 plus the add on HDDVD drive gets that point.

Reliability: the newest revisions of the 360 seem to be doing fine, but the PS3 has been fine in that regard from the start. I would still give the PS3 the point here, for the time being.

Which one do you think looks better?

Which one has the controller you like best?

Which one best fits your budget?

Most of those questions can only be answered by you.

This thread will likely go down a bad path VERY quickly.

I would say just look at the games of each system (both released and soon to be released), and decide which ones seem better to you. The 360 has quite a few more games out now as it was released a year earlier than the PS3, but the PS3 is starting to hit its stride and has got a few good games of late (and quite a few more scheduled for release in the next few months). I would just check out IGN and read some reviews of current games and release dates for future ones.

I own both systems and am happy with both purchases. Both systems have some really great exclusives and I think you would be happy with either.

If posters don't get retarted and follow posts like GORANKAR's, everything should be fine.

Will that happen? No.

Yeah, Gorankar got us off to a good start. Let's try to keep it that way and not turn this into a pissing contest.

P.S. I can piss really far.

If you want to play games from all different genres and don't care much for the sony exclusives like Metal Gear, Tekken, and Gran Turismo, i'd vote for the 360, but if you want blue ray, a more reliable console, and if you are a die hard MGS, Tekken, or GT fan, then i'd go with the ps3.

FPS is one of its strong suits, but discounting that, the X360 has a deeper library. But that makes sense because it launched a year earlier. There are plenty of fun games to keep you entertained on PS3, but there are twice as many on X360. There is more instant gratification.

Microsoft's advantage lies with the software. Its software and OS background are integral reasons for the success of the live service. MS made some smart business decisions by "stealing" traditional Sony time exclusive franchises like Grand Theft Auto. By launching early, it gained a considerable lead in "mind share", install base, and software lineup.

But in 2008 Sony has several exclusives that will set the bar for this generation. I think PS3 clearly benefited from Sony's vast electronics engineering/design expertise. If you compare the hardware directly, PS3 is overall superior to X360.

I think X360 will lose its decisive game advantage next year. There are so many "must play" exclusive PS3 titles coming. I don't see anything in their respective genres that can compare with MGS4 or GT5. Also it appears the days of PS3 getting cold cocked on multi-platform titles is over.

The price differential has come way down. I expect both systems to sell fairly evenly in '08.

I have both systems and I enjoy them both. My taste in gaming varies considerably so I'm quite open to what is offered on both sides.

I bought my PS3 to fit my needs. The first thing you will have to ask yourself is. What are your needs?

I wanted a wireless connection. To most this point is moot since they prefer the reliability of a hardwired connection.

I also wanted a High Def movie player. I liked the fact that the PS3 had it in one unit instead of an add on. This may not even be a concern for you since some do not even own a HDTV yet.

I wanted a system with wireless controllers. This applies to both systems but ruled out the 360 core system for me.

I wanted to play the best games. At the time of purchase the PS3 didn't have many games and the scales are still tipped heavily in the 360's favor. I knew that games were comming out and I also knew that there are many cross platform games. I didn't know that most of those cross platform games were very poorly done ports. This is becoming much less of an issue since they are actually developing games for both systems at the same time instead of porting one to the other. Look at the big 2 cross platform games to have come out in the past few months. Assassin's Creed and COD4 are nearly identical on both systems.

For me the features I wanted were in the PS3. Both systems are very good at this point in time it seems that the bugs have been worked out of them both. The PS3 have a lot of features added thru firmware updates and the 360 has had some hardware issues worked out so if you are buying a new system I don't think you would have to live in fear of the RROD anymore.

I have both systems and, thankfully, they are both decent gaming purchases now. I still prefer my 360 for a few reasons. XBox Live is much better designed, albiet not free for all the features, than PlayStation Network. I much prefer the 360's controller to the PS3 Sixaxis (the Dualshock 3 doesn't have me excited either, it is the same design). I would give the PS3 the edge with motion controls, but, so far, I have seen very few good implimentations of it on the system so far. I think Heavenly Sword has the only good example I've seen so far. The 360's Dashboard blade menu system is alot easier to use and better organized than the XMB menu on the PS3. In the PS3's corner, you have a larger hard drive (unless you buy a 360 Elite) that is replacable without much fuss and built-in wireless. Blu-Ray is a feature that's utility varies from person to person. I couldn't care less about it, but for many it's a big selling point.

This year, the 360 has good exclusives since launch but the PS3 has been catching up lately (especially if you are not looking to play FPS console games). Next year, the PS3 has at least one big exlusive coming, Metal Gear Solid 4. I am off that bandwagon, but I know alot of people are looking forward to it. Gran Turismo 5 has a good shot of being out next year, but don't hold your breath. It could get pushed to '09. Final Fantasy 13 is also hazy for '08. The 360's exclusives for next year are sort of a list of dark horses. Ninja Gaiden 2 would probably be the leader of the pack with Too Human and Sabatuer being the outside shots. The PS3 did get some good exclusives this year though, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword, and Folklore.

On the multiplatforum front (non-FPS), you have Guitar Here 3, Rock Band, and Assassin's Creed with GTA4 and Devil May Cry 4 coming early next year.

It is looking good for both systems. Again, my preference is the 360, but I suggest playing around with both a little if you can, line up the features, and pick which one has what you want to play.

No good games on the PC? Thats pretty funny considering conoles have a lot of the same games.. and some very good PC games have came out in the past year.

This thread will likely go down a bad path VERY quickly.

I agree.

I have both, and to be honest, I play my PS3 now more than ever. I've had both since they launched, and before October, I rarely played my PS3... mostly for movies. I played through Resistance which was good. The 1st year of having my Ps3 was pretty hard... very rarely played it. But, since October a bunch of really great games have come out. Warhawk has released, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Heavenly Sword, Oblivion's pretty good if you haven't played that yet. But most recently, Assassin's Creed has me amazed. Very very good game. And also Uncharted. I personally think the PS3 is a little more future proof with the exclusives that are coming out within the next few months... not to say the 360 doesn't have any, but I personally am really looking forward to Haze, Killzone 2,
Littlebigplanet, MGS 4, Gran Turismo 5... not to mention all the awesome multiplatform games coming out.

And also, if you buy your Ps3 this week you get 10 free Blu Rays instantly from Walmart, and you can still mail-in for 5 more free ones. And, if you decide to keep or sell them, they very much justify the price for the PS3. And, if you do decide on it then get the 60gb version if you can in so you'll be able to play plenty of great PS3 games.

Since I've had a 360 over a year and a PS3 for 3 months now I'll give you my honest opinion. If you have to choose only one for now then the 360 is a no brainer imo...multi-platform titles are better on the 360 if for no other reason than the 360 contoller beats the Sixaxxis in just about every area except the d-pad. (which is rarely used for important things on the 360 but is a big part of the overall PS3 scheme) Also...even if the PS3 exclusives are more to your liking...most aren't available yet. Blu-ray is overrated imo...unless you have a 50" or above 1080p tv then you will be hard pressed to tell the difference vs a good upconverted standard dvd.

As far as reliability goes..I've had no issues whatsoever with the 360 for over a year but my 3 month old PS3 has started randomly locking up on me recently and not responding to the on/off button on the controller. On the other hand, I think it is software related (due to the 2.0 update) so I'm confident that will be fixed soon.

Have them both as well. I use my PS3 mainly for Blu-Ray movies and some PS2 titles as well as some exclusive PS3 titles that will come up soon.

The 360 get most of my gaming time however. On the other hand, i could never watch a movie with my xbox since it's WAY too loud compared to the quiet PS3.

Both are good in their own way and owning both gives me the best of both worlds. If i could only have one, then i would decide what's more important to me: gaming or movies and buy based on that.

I'm on the fence about a ps3 purchase for the holiday season myself. I'd like to hear much of what the OP requested as well.

In regards to your comment about the 360 being too loud, it doesn't bother me too much. What does bother me is the playback audio of the hd-dvd player. I have to crank up my volume setting to 50 to get the same loudness versus watching regular television at an audio level of 20. Even then, the dialogue audio is very low in comparison with environment audio. I end up turning on the subtitles just so I don't miss any dialogue.

Broadcast and cable TV use heavy audio compression that flattens dynamic range and makes the program louder on average, whereas both Dolby and DTS use reference levels that prohibit excessively loud soundtracks. Some players have built-in compressors that act to make the audio louder, but that isn't necessary.

Unless there's some bizarre thing going on with the drive specifically, the variance in volume is not a flaw of the 360's player.

I'm on my third Xbox360. The one I bought at Zero Hour croaked about 9 months afterwards, was sent back for warranty work, returned to me 2 weeks later. I was happy with it up until it red lighted me again a couple weeks ago. Gave that unit to my sister for her to return it for warranty work and bought myself the Elite.

I do most of my gaming on PC, but play (and will eventually play) GH3, Rock Band, and Mass Effect. Forza 2 with the MS wheel was kickass. If I hadn't broke the table I mounted it to, I'd still be playing it. :)

I've heard of this flaw being very common with other people who have the hd-dvd add-on. Some of these posters also owned the ps3, and didn't have that problem with that player for Blu-ray.

The PS3 has come a long ways in addressing the complaints from launch, like price and lack of titles. Blu-ray is very nice for movies, and the games look great on a nice HDTV. I believe the PS3 will have the longest "staying power" of the currently available consoles. Just picked mine up a few weeks ago, ratchet and clank is a lot of fun and looks great too!

If I am going to play a fps game, I prefer the KB and Mouse... and I already have a PC for that so I have little personal interest in the Xbox 360 (YMMV).

Once wii's are more readily available, I would like to get one of those too for Mario Galaxy! Always loved the mario games and this one sounds like the best yet. :)

Choose based on games, unless you really want Blu-Ray with your console, in which case, there's one choice.

Many games are now going cross platform, so the way to differentiate now are the handful of exclusives the different consoles get and any other additional things like whether or not you like XBox Live more than Playstation Online, as well as those fringe benefits like aforementioned Blu-Ray.

Note: I have an Xbox 360, waiting for a Wii to roll my way, and I'm not sure if I'll get a PS3. Too many systems to support, too little money to go around since I have other systems as well in addition to the 360.

Hello guys,
My last game was WOW, lol. There no good games on PC anymore, it all about FPS and I think it get really old.

You get far more variety with a PC than you do with a console: MMORPGs, real time strategy, turn based strategy, wargames, flight sims, sub games, and any other type of simulations are all mostly PC games. The only thing the PC lacks is a decent selection of fight games.

That's not a problem of the HD-DVD player. What you described is the classic situation of outputting surround sound to TV speakers. TVs are stereo so you have no center channel (where the dialogue is played) and instead you are hearing the environmental dialogue through the front left and right speakers. This is why you don't have the problem when watching TV due to (most) shows being broadcast in stereo.

Look in the audio options menu of the DVD and see if a stereo (not 5.1) choice is available. If not and you really like that movie, buy some damn surround sound! :D

PS3, RROD is bullshit, and I'm not about to go on a 3rd replacement. M$ can go fuck themselves until they can learn to build a better piece of hardware.

I used to have both PS3 60gb and Elite 360, I sold the Xbox 360 and kept my PS3 ;) because some of the 360 games would be ported down the road anyway on a PC, secondly i like the PS3 because the limited titles keeps me out of the chair and go run, play outside and do other stuff on the weekend rather than playing on new and awesome titles every freakiin day like the 360 has... the PS3's lackluster title is a non issue for me now as all i play is NBA Live 08, NFS:pS, FNR3, Kane & Lynch, Rainbow Six, I just finished COD4, so i cant complain...this games are enough to keep me entertained and bored at the same time, that i go outside and do something else... X360 is a great and awesome machine there are some issues PS3 has too, but it all comes to what you need & what you want, price is a non-issue now as PS3 40gb & 80gb has come down on price..

Your post is absolutely useless and is exactly what people are asking "not" to post. You could say "I prefer the PS3 because I am not pleased with the failure rate of the 360", but instead you preferred to sound like a 9th grader rebeling against his parents, and no one will take you seriously. Please think before you post.

Anyway, I own a X360 Elite and love it to death, but I must admit that more and more I want a PS3. 360 has alot of great shooting games and deeper library, but it is very lacking in RPGs, something Sony has always been very strong at...so if you're an RPG fan, a PS3 looks best, even though there aren't any atm, I'm guessing any upcoming RPGs will be looking to Sony.

I'd also like to mention Ratchet & Clank Future for PS3 only, I played a demo at Wal-Mart and it was really fun and looked amazing. Just another reason for me to want to drop $399 on a Sony machine...and I used to hate Sony, still do kind of (to me, they were the force that ended the SEGA Empire), but I can't deny its a good machine.

With this 360 and the PS3 I want...I should really, really invest in an HDTV :p

Know that the 360 has the best versions of multiconsole games, as well as plenty of amazing games in its own right at this point in time.

PS3 has good exclusives, but only about 3 or 4 of them, while I can name at least 20 good 360 ones.

I'd probably go with the 360, unless you're really itching for Blu Ray.

360 has Blue Dragon and Mass Effect, already two excellent RPG's, along with Eternal Sonata that I haven't played and can't vouch for; while PS3 right now has Folklore, one that I felt was merely a bit above average at best. Really, at this point and time, 360 does everything the PS3 does and does it a lot better, except maybe platformers. I wouldn't really say the PS3 is going to get all the RPG's, this generation is a lot different than the previous one - hell, 360 already has one more RPG coming out in Japan this year from the people who made Blue Dragon.

And about the console failure rates, I got a Falcon, and so far, so good, and I haven't heard of anyone having any problems with it.

Actually I have been reading about quite a few MMORPGs that are comming out soon. The PS3 has the one that sounded a bit interesting called the Agency. I know that the 360 signed an exclusive contract with Marvel for Marvel Universe Online and the PS3 has the Same thing for a DC comics.

He's keepin' it real playa. ;)

False.

PS3 has good exclusives, but only about 3 or 4 of them, while I can name at least 20 good 360 ones.

PS3 may only have 4 good exclusives. That is to say games worth buying, not just renting. But we know that will change next year. X360 didn't have more than a handful of good games its first year either. Most were average and many sucked.

Even now I don't think I'd go so far as to say there are 20 good exclusive X360 games. I just looked at metacritic and realized the top 6 highest rated titles on X360 are multi-platform and not exclusive. (Bioshock, Orange Box, COD4, GoW, Rock Band, Oblivion)

When you compare only exclusive games, it's not that lop sided considering one system has been out twice as long. I think PS3 definitely has a stronger exclusive game lineup next year. MS has really grown their 3rd party support since Xbox, but they've still got a ways to go to catch Sony's superlative 1st party studio support.

I think the 360 always having the best version of multi-platform games is WAY overblown. I've played both versions of multiple multi-platform games, and the difference is extremely minor IMO. The only reason I think people say the 360 version is better because of rumble (I don't care) and achievements (achievements are lame IMO). Personally, the only differences I may notice is one version being slightly darker. One version may having a tad slowdown in one spot (out of several areas), maybe 1 second longer loading, etc. Basically, it's just not worth fussing over. Right now, I buy the PS3 version of almost every multi-platform games since the PS3 is quieter (noisy 360 drive bothers me a lot), PS3 is more reliable hardware, slightly prefer PS3 controller, and most all my good friends are on PSN.

As for exclusives, I give PS3 the very small upper hand, since most exclusives on 360 are just shooters and PC type games (which I prefer to not play on a console). Next year, I expect PS3 to expand its game advantage of the 360.

I also have both systems. Here are my notes.

I have not had a single glitch with either system. Considering all the trouble with the 360, if you cannot be without the system, I'd have to go for the PS3. Your 360 may be fine, but then again, you may get several lemons.

PS3 does not have many good exclusives. Resistance is excellent, Folklore is pretty good, and the Drake's Fortune is supposed to be good as well, but that's about it. Resistance is the best shooter on the PS3, but there are MULTIPLE good shooters on the 360, Gears of War, Bioshock, Halo 3. The rest of its games are mostly multiplatform, and with a few exceptions, most of those aren't great.

PS Online is not as well thought-out as XBL, but it's free. The charge for XBL is pretty nominal, so it's a toss-up.

If you're going to be using the console as a home entertainment device, get the 60GB PS3, bar none. Built-in BR support, SACD support, and an easier to use GUI for getting to your media makes the PS3 a clear winner in my book. Things like fully uncompressed audio from the HD movies aren't even available on the 360, even with the HD-DVD add on.

Both have their benefits, but the 360 has so much more available to it.

I own both and they both do different things well.

The 360 has a far more extensive catalog of titles.

It seems to me that the 360 is much more shooter heavy and more western (read non Japanese) titles. Mass Effect alone looks excellent.

The PS3 to me is superior hardware, but that makes a lot of sense since Sony to me is a hardware company and MS a software one. I got mine as a Blu-Ray player and am not looking back on that front.

LAN- PS3 is wireless (big bonus for my setup) where as I use a 50' cable to hook up the 360- really irritating my wife in the process. I've had no issues being wireless on the PS3.

The PS3 is beginning to catch up on titles- Uncharted is awesome as is Heavenly Sword and Ratchet and Clank.

My personal hang up is that I need to pay Microsoft for the privilege of matchmaking and online gaming. I can understand if they are hosting (a la WoW) but they're not. I don't play online- my gaming time is too intermittent to devote to online play or to get good enough to not be pissed off the entire time destroying the fun factor. I require titles that are designed for offline play. I know that the current buzzword in gaming IS online, but does not work for me. I've barely used my XBL Gold sub in the past year, so I'll let it lapse. I think I tried the Battlestations: Midway demo and that's it.

However there are titles on both consoles that I really enjoy- Crackdown on the 360 is my favorite console game of all time- and I still haven't beaten it. I bought it week of release. Uncharted is Rocking my world right now, and I'll have Mass Effect in hand soon enough. Other titles on the horizon for me (used since I'm cheap) are Heavenly Sword(PS3), Saint's Row(360), and finishing Oblivion. That'll easily take all of 2008 for me- maybe longer!

As for controllers- I actually prefer the PS3. I literally grew up on the PS1 and PS2 so I've been using it for as long as I can remember. The 360 controller is nice, and I consider rumble to be overrated. Not that SIXAXIS is any less overrated :) However I can use either for long periods without issue.

From initial reports the DualShock 3 has pretty much answered all the 'flaws' ppl whined about on the original six-axis. Mainly weight, it 'feels' right now and rumble, altho the rumble isn't as heavy as the 360 in the games that support it so far. I do think it will enhance games like Motorstorm tho, and I'm hoping Sega Rally will get a patch (if it doesn't already support it) as the cars feel like they are floating.

Aside from controllers I do think the percieved lack of games and the old chestnut that multiplatform games are better on the 360 are now old news. Pretty much every multiplatform game is practically identical now with the only difference being online is better on Live. Live does have the advantage and one would hope that Sony will readdress the difference with Home and in-game xmb. (altho from what I've read COD4 online side of things is identical of both machines)

Like eveyone has said so far tho it totally depends on what you will be doing, games wise, movies, media centre etc

I will add that you guys can get the PS3 for an insanely cheap price. With the 15 free BR offer, selling the films to subsidise the purchase, is stupidly cheap and makes me sick. If we had a deal like that over here it would be hard to find one anywhere. Will never happen tho unfortunately.

Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Warhawk. Exclusives and downright good.

You also missed that GoW and Bioshock are multiplatform. I do believe that Halo 3 is the only FPS that you cannot get for either PC or PS3 (somebody correct me if I'm wrong)

i got all 3, and id get a 360 over the ps3 personally.finally it looks like the ps3 is catching up in the games dept, but i prefer rumble/acheivements over sixaxis so ill continue going 360 for multiplat games. not too many of the ps3 exclusives are must buys for me. uncharted seems the best, but idk...i might rent it.

just follow the games tho, if a system has what you want, get that.

I mainly chose the PS3 because well, I had a ps from the start and have been hooked to the game series from there on (MGS, GT, GTA, etc., etc.). I also am used to the controller and from what I have played on the 360/xbox controller, I didn't like it very much.

I was going to get a PS3 - as I figured its predecessor was the system of Final Fantasy, Okami, Xenosaga, Katamari, Odin Sphere, and the tons of other Japanese RPGs and quirky games I've always chose. Suprisingly, it looks like PS3 has been partially abandoned by Japanese gamers, with many companies developing for the Wii, and titles like Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata coming over to the 360!

I never though I'd see the day... even on the import scene, there aren't a ton of PS3 games!

Eternal Sonata is one of the best RPGs I've played in years. Blue Dragon was decent from the demo. The Phantasy Star game for the Xbox has a passable single player game; it's certainly worth the $15 I paid for it.

Enchanted Arms and Oblivion are both on PS3/360 and Oblivion is definitely worth the play. Enchanted Arms is okay if you're a J-RPG fan, otherwise it's not really worth looking into.
