nice can't wait tell everything is back to 110% :O and thanks for everything again

I really thought that we were in for real trouble when that message appeared on the main page asking for help with MySql and vBull.

Same here. It looked like Kyle was waving the white flag. Good to see things are back to normal ... at least for now!

Out of curiosity, Kyle, are you OC'ing any of your servers or running them all at their stock speeds? It would be appropriate for this forum if you did OC.

No, that would just be idiotic.

Would it be possible to get the new server working and tweaked before taking down the old server as to avoid any more downtime?

Well i just wanted to post here and give my thanks to all the people involved in trying to fix the problems. All your efforts are much appreciated!

cool. was just hoping to clear some space in my parts bins. (I save way too much stuff:p )

Good for you .....I guess they figured with how popular this site was, they could rape you, and you would roll over and play dead....how wrong they were :)

Cheers to all you guys that are working 24/7 fixing this place up, so the rest of us have a place to come and chill out.

I think it could be attributed more to the women that were handling the situation having no clue as to why The Planet was doing business with us to begin with, then the rest of it being due to them having their heads planted firmly in their asses. Their lack of professionalism in handling the siuation was unexcusable, and I don't really hold a high standard there. I just want you to do what you say you are going to do, but they could not pull that off.

After all this downtime it's hard to tell if you're being sarcastic :p

Well the current database server was not supposed to be touched until we were sure the new one was properly working.....that however did not happen as was instructed.

I could write you a freaking love letter for all the years of entertainment this site has provided....but that would be gross. You've always taken the time to own up to the mistakes, accept you compliments, and graciously admit that although you started this thing...you're not alone here. Your perseverance and leadership over there years has lead this project, and the community to places that were are all proud to be a part of, and be included in.

I know I have given you shit in the past, but I am as proud as ever to be a part of this community, and give back in whatever small way I can. [H] is my daily read, and we all were very aware of the problems with the forums. We're glad to see them back up and running, that's for sure! If I hear anyone bitching about lost threads....don't even get me started.

To all that contribute to make [H] what it is, and provide us with the ability to encourage new ideas, new concepts, take part in eachothers projects, offer advice, admonish stupidity (hey...that had to go in there!), and develop relationships with the rest of the staff, and reading constituency...THANK YOU!

You keep it going, and we'll keep participiating.

Sincerely,

Joshua Supnick
[H]ard since 1998

im just glad to see these forums up at all, with the message that was up yesterday i was starting to think either you weren't gonna have these forums anymore, or were going to completely blow up the forums and start over x.x

I realize we're far from being out of the woods at the moment, but I still think that it's appropriate to take a minute and say thanks.

Even though I haven't posted that much, I've been lurking all things [H]ard for years now, since the late 90's. A lot of other sites like yours start out great when they're small, but grow up to be douchebags in the end, you've always stayed true to your original ideals. Even with all the expense and bullshit that goes along with maintaining a site this big you still manage to provide us with quality free entertainment, and constantly do everything in your power to improve [H] every day.

Thanks for all your hard work. You've given [H]ardware enthusiasts a quality place to hang out for years, and hopefully many more years to come.

I find it truly incredible that with all this still trying to be resolved, Kyle is taking the time to post in the forums and let us all know what's going on. Yet another reason why I have the utmost respect for the [H]!!

Nice work guys!

Yeah, I was afraid they were going to kill the database and start over with zero users, zero posts, and zero threads.

Anyway, thanks Kyle for keeping us informed and I wish you the best of luckwith server upgrade attempt #2, when the time comes.

Hehe, that crossed my mind more than once in the last week as I was losing sleep over all of this.

Thanks for getting it back up. Can't wait to see the "Devil" in action. I can now slack off at work again..thanks guys :D

We just deleted the current full text search index, and are going with "vbulletin search" option and will see how that goes. We are hearing good things about Sphinx Search, so we are doing some research into this.

John is handling our reindexing. He can take care of a lot of your VBull customization needs if you have any.

I know the pains of performing migrations - I've been a Unix administrator for the last 11 years. But thankfully with age and seniority comes delegation so I don't always have to work the late nights and hassle with the problems like I used to. Though I did get my hands dirty today with a damn bullshit IBM P550 running AIX 5.2L - I'm a Solaris guy. It's always fun to work out the kinks like this, but the forum seems to be running nicely today. Nice work and hopefully all the little issues get sorted out soon so you guys don't need to worry about them.

It's funny Kyle - I use the same comment at work when we fix a problem and one of my admins gets all excited. "Let's not start sucking each others dicks just yet". Unfortunately most of the geeks I hired have not seen Pulp Fiction so they look at me like I want to engage in some homosexual activity in the cold data center (barf). They are more the type of guys who like to sit in their underwear playing WoW making boots or whatever that damn game is about while their wives (or online girlfriend) bitch that they don't spend enough time loving them. :)

You know Kyle, I hear Kentron's been helping a lot of servers with their new twist on RAM...
