Yes, it's running, but we're not out of it yet. Only the eye of the storm as one might say... Still gotta figure out why the other server is a douchebag

We are running on "Iris" right now (the old server), we will still have to migrate to "The devil"(the new server) soon. So as he said, the eye of the storm is upon us. Hopefully it's a big eye though :D

My $0.02

Love to you all. Patiently waiting when necessary. Enjoying when I can. I recognize your hard work and dedication to provide us with free entertainment. You owe me nothing.

^ I agree with him, I seriously browse this site more then any one out there. close second being slickdeals, but I know the sites been having problems and it makes me sad cuz I can't get enough of the [h]ardness. take your guys time and hopefully everything gets settled and well never go thru this again!

yup after 2 weeks of waiting*no complaints :D but just keep on saying man [H] is down! :p* now its fast.... great job and good luck on moving the forums to the new server... hahahha that gibby2 got banned whoever banned him should be rewarded!*if he didn't he should be ip banned :) *

kyle's gonna owe us junkies new keyboards for sure if it goes down again though :D

upriverpaddler... what a name :D So brutally appropriate :D

Ok.. once it is up and running, don't "tweak" anymore settings. kthx. :D :p

Oh.. and all my worklog updates got deleted which took well over an hour to type out. That's the 3rd time it got deleted. No more posting worklogs here for me.

just keep long posts like that backed up for the next week or two. we'd be missing out on some cool shit if everyone had an attitude like that :(

It couldn't be avoided. hardcore server trouble the likes of which only the [H] crew could ever have

I really thought that we were in for real trouble when that message appeared on the main page asking for help with MySql and vBull.

Can't we just have Steve beat the new server into submission?

I thought that was the only reason we kept him around?

When you went down, it was like losing an arm.
You created quite a void!

Here is a toast to the [H]ardforum staff for all their hardwork!

how come you guys had to move from theplanet, i must of missed that some where

The Planet kicked us out saying our contract was up or else pay some rediculous pricing for services, then they said, please come back, we will do another barter agreement, then they totally acted like idiots and left us hanging and quite frankly we did not know if it was safe to leave our equipment in their colo as they stopped answering all mail, trouble tickets, and phone calls. So we went in and got all 24 servers that were in the cabs and moved them in one afternoon.

All of this mess is still some of the fall out from not migrating properly.

thanks for the quick replay, and wow 24 servers to power all that is [H]

Word of advice : long worklogs posts would be better be copied in a new .txt file so if it get rolled back, you have the contents to post back fast ;) This is what I did with a big article I just posted in the DC forum with a copy on another forum and 3rd copy on my desktop (I was unlucky to have the [H] forum rolled back and the Official Folding forum rolled back as well on the same week  ).

Well, we had some house cleaning to do too. For the most part HardOCP is comprised of 3 database servers and three web servers. HF is one database server and two web servers. We seperated the shared web resources last week when we had to move to MySQL 5 to do some upgrades for the forums.

Everything about the forums has changed in the last two weeks, this was not just a hardware upgrade. New OS, new database version, all to 64-bit, plus new hardware and a physcial server move.

We got rid of a bunch of them. Legacy boxes that needed to be trimmed.

Yep, dual 667 still in there, running other project sites of mine.

what kind of server power does it take to power [H] like cpu,ram and hdd setups
also thanks for all that is [H]

The Planet of now is not the same The Planet from before. A few key support people have left The Planet in the past 6 months. When people jump ship like that, it makes a person wonder and then I read of your dealings with them....

Yeah, a big investment company bought them a while back and they are all about big business now. No more mom and pop to it at all. Everyone is just a number. We had about a 5 year relationship with them and brought them tremendous amounts of business over the years and they kicked us out via trouble ticket. Did not even have the decency to call. Then one of the old guard down there caught it, and tried to get things corrected, but there were just too many idiots between us and the finish line. It was great while it lasted.

Uhhhh, fast is an understatement just trying to get into this thread took my browser 45 seconds(fasterfox).

New Cab setup at DataSide.

Bottom up: New Forum Database server not in use, HardOCP Primary 1 Database, HardOCP Primary 2 Database (these share OCP load), HardOCP Writes Database (all editor work is done on this server), Ad server, Ad server, Mail server, Legacy Dell Server (First one I ever bought - $12,000 Dual 667 - Still works great), HardForum Current/Legacy Database Server, 5 web servers above that, dual Xeons or dual opterons - 3 for OCP, 2 for HF.

All servers are Dual 2GHz Opterons at the least. New forum is 8 way box, two of the new Dell webservers are dual dua-core Xeons.

There are certain moments when it goes slow...but for the most part it has been fast.

Yes we are seeing some moments where it is laggy, but nothing to really complain about as it is usually over quickly. We are working to move to the new servers as well.
