Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

Can't order from costco.com because they don't ship to Canada and the costco.ca doesn't even carry it. Don't know anyone from US

Send me the $ and I'll buy it for you....

Send extra for some sweet ocean front property in Arizona I have for sale (a steal at 300K an acre)

So my shitty Polaroid 32" TV just crapped out on me .....
I would really like to get this (Westy) TV, but I have no clue where to purchase it. I would like to get it locally if possible.
This is final weekend for getting $799 price at Costco.com. Westy is not available at any Costco stores.
A poster here says some Best Buy stores have it, but price is $1499.
Pricegrabber says the online vendor PCNation has it for $1199

Newegg was suppose to receive some yesterday yet now their ETA is 7/4/07. I wouldn't be surprised if they never get a new shipment in.

Finally bit on this display this morning. Just have one question for those who already have it- how are standard definition cd-sized divx/xvid dvd rips on this display? I'm used to running a 19" CRT at 1280x1024, just wanna know what I can expect... do they look grainy, or noticeably blotchy compared to smaller monitors? Thanks in advance, and a picture comparison would be worth a thousand words ;)

it depends on the size of resolution not the size of the monitor, better encoding will do very good job with less grainy, you will find a bit grainy upgrade from 1280x1024 to 1920x1080 using the same xvid/divx files

Thanks. My current monitor is pretty old, so I'll be interested to see the difference in quality and color vibrancy using the same files.

Damn you all and this thread!!!!! i pulled the trigger and got myself one from costco today. Total was $898.02, ive never spent this much on anything i hope its worth it.

Yeah, DVD ripped files encoded in DivX look pretty good. I know, those 700mb files. They definitely looks better than SD signal from DishNetwork. But yeah, from now on, you should stick with complete DVD copies.

hehe...ive seen a few ppl buy em and have mechanical issues(it happens) but ive yet to see one person post anything like "omg this thing sux, what a waste of $"

There were a few in the first 100 pages of the thread, but we got together and boo'd them away. I think the majority of them didn't understand what the P was for in 1080P.

i went to my friends house last night who received his. it is the most beautiful thing i have ever seen in my life. the colors are PERFECT and the fucker is BRIGHT. he had the backlight on 40. We then turned it to 0 and it seemed a bit darker. then we ran some roms, some 1080P fifth element mkv, it was perfect. Youtube maximized looked shitty from like 3 feet away, but sitting on the couch i had no compalints (~ 8 feet away). Then we watched a 720p Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children sephiroth fight. It was baller. it fit 1:1 with the screen (no bars) and there was no ghosting whatsoever.
The crazy thing is that after all that pure butter visual entertainment, we realized that we had never turned the backlight back on. even with the backlight off this thing is glorious.

Mine should get here this week, and after seeing this thing in action i cant fathom loading up a game until it gets here.

In Westy37 "Calibration" thread, another guy said he turned Backlight to 0 and was happy with result.
Check the Thread to see how guys set-up their Westys for best color, blacks, sharpness, etc.

<---- Another guy who pulled the trigger this morning on this costco sale.

For all of you thinking about getting this deal ($799 at costco.com) remember that it says the sale does end tonight.

As nike would say... just do it. ;)

Credit card? Pay your bill after you get paid.

I keep my backlight to 0 because I want to make this thing last forever, at least through this generation of consoles and the next. If you use a low backlight, simply increase the contrast to keep the whites looking white. Plus, I can't really look at the screen if the backlight is too high because it hurts my eyes.

Woohoo! Shipped finally and it'll be here Thursday! Yesssssssssssss! :D To all you out there with no money and are wondering if you should get it... YEP!! Go back to ramen noodles, black beans and tap water!

Has anyone used a spyder to calibrate the monitor and get the best possible display? Was there a noticable difference?

Why the heck do I have to pay taxes in Indiana? There aren't even any stores in Indiana?

Oh just as an interesting side note... when i returned my westy, it actually fit in my girlfriend's toyota camry in the back seat (the box included!)... it took a little squeezing in, but it fits (sure didn't look like it would!).

Well, I just bit on this deal...it's 2300hrs here in Indiana...couldn't help it...guess it's back to fasting for a couple of months, at least that will get me looking good for the beach! Ha!!! j/k

Well, this sucks for me. As I said before, I ordered the first day this deal came on, and now I'm just waiting on my replacement, since the original one was defective. Well, I still get no change in my order, still says "In Process". :( I place my second order on 6/5/07. Has anybody ordered that day, or after, and already got something else besides "In Process"?

Whats up brother... i feel your pain... got a defective westy myself. It said "2 - 3 weeks" so it's going to be a long way :(

BTW, how was your westy defective? Did it do the continuous red/green/blue/white/black color cycle like mine did?

I think someone in the Westy 'calibration' thread mentions it.
BTW, if u get one, will u post what it costs, how easy/hard to use and how effective?
I've never even seen one. Is it a cd? Thanx.

..... I can't really look at the screen if Backlight is too high because it hurts my eyes.
If "bright white screens" bugs your eyes (it does mine) u can solve that, by doing this.....
Go into Display Properties ... Appearance .... and set for 'Windows Classic Style' ... then set "Hi Contrast #2" (or "1" if u like) then hit 'Advanced' key ... a new window opens..... set "Message Text" and "Windows Text" to colors u like and to "Size" that u like (and 'Bold' if u like) .
Then .... go back to other window and hit "Apply".
You'll now cruise the Web, hours on end, with Black screen (its so "restful-on-eyes") and if Text is set to a nice white or yellow or green----it stands out like neon lites against the Black screen.
If some Web site overrides your black screen and gives you glaring-white (I hate that) simply go into upper menu (Tools, Internet Options, Accessibility) and hit the box marked 'Override web page colors').
BTW, while you're still in "Internet Options" -----open the 'Colors' box and check the box :"Use Windows Colors").
If u have problem implementing this, post here. Be specific.
Good luck.

I have a version 1.0 westy from pcnation that i ordered about a month ago. My issue is with the sleep function of this monitor. As previously mentioned, this monitor will enter and then resume from sleep the first time with no problems as long as autosource and dpms is enabled. However, the second time that the computer goes ito sleep mode; the monitor will fail to turn off the backlight.

Are there some series of settings i need to fix this issue? This is driving me nuts because i am so used to having a sleep function on my monitor, and considering i spent over a grand for this; i would hope everything works. Can anyone else chime in on suggestions and or let me know if theire firmware has issues/no issues?

Please help me in finding a solution for this problem, for i know I'm one of many 1.0 firmware owners.

edit: i am using dvi1 connected to a nvidia 7900gs

would you think it may work better if i was using the dvi2 connection or hdmi port?

Well , I'm going to return my Westy to Sam's Club. I ordered one from costco last night before the $799 deal expires. After tax and shipping, it still came out cheaper than Sams club. I paid $1050 + $85 (tax) + $80 (shipping) + $150 something for warranty at SC. Total about $1400. Sam's club sent me a damaged monitor with a cracked bezel. They discounted about $150 after I called and complained. Final price $1250. But after I saw the costco deal, I realized that it would be cheaper at costco than at SC. I would get a brand new monitor without any damage and it would be cheaper.

Here is what I got from costco, in case someone wants to compare with SC. $799 + $44 tax + $40 shipping. Plus Costco extended the warranty to another year on top the one year from Westinghouse. Total price $895. The weird thing is - Costco charged me less on sales tax and shipping than sam's club. .

I'm going to wait couple of weeks to receive the one from costco before I return the one from sams club. With the money I saved..I think I'll buy a 8800 GTX.

No, mine had a problem that the buttons would not work. The buttons placed on the TV were completely useless since they acted as if they were not there, I would press them and nothing happened. And when I tried to do something with the remote control, the TV would just change Input Signal. I would press ANY button, even the power button, and the damn thing would just go...Video...S-Video...HDMI...DVI-1....
Oh well, I guess I just have to wait for it. At least that gives me enough time to finish up my build. Haha.:p

I hope that all goes well with Costco's shipment to you.

I have tried calling westinghouse and theyw ere of little help. I tried changing connections on to dvi2, and hdmi without any success. :-(

They also said my firmware was the most up to date @ v1.0

Just got mine and hooked it up, the display is shown as a w4207 in properties and it monitor itself only has 1 dvi input. Did they give me a 42 inch by accident o_O?

Actually the sticker is on the bottom left. I think new displayed is def confirmed (by me at least hahah) its labeled as lvm-37w3se. Contrast Ratio was given a boost to 1200:1. Firmware is version 1.0se
