Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

Well guys, After 5 months, my DVI-1 port went kaput and my DVI-2 port is shifted downwards by about 20 pixels. I tried different DVI cables and also HDMI-DVI cable from my cable box and DVI still doesnt come on, it just has garbage and faint images of other inputs.

I called Westinghouse and they do not know what it is, I will be taking it back to Conns tomorrow and see if they can fix it.

:(

You thought it couldn't get any more ridiculous? You were wrong. Microsoft banning modded consoles from live has left me with no other choice..

I still can't believe Ikea would discontinue such an awesome desk. Too bad I did not know about it till I needed one :(

1. Is now a good time to purchase the LVM-37W3? Everyone says it is getting scarce, but maybe that is because they are getting ready to release something better? I dont want to purchase this monitor and then have it be rendered obsolete in the near future.

2. Also how does this monitor compare to the Dell 2707? What does the 2707 have over the westy, and vive versa? Also how does the native res of the westy compare to the dell 2707's 1920 x 1200

3. This monitor doesn't have component correct? How are you supposed to hook up your xbox 360 then if you dont have the elite HDMI version.

4. Does this monitor have built in speakers? If so, how are they? I would really love to not have to buy seperate speakers if the ones on the westy are actually decent.

Lastly

5. Where is a good place, with a good return policy, that has this monitor in stock?

Sorry for all the questions, as this is a big purchase, and I want to make sure i am making the right choice.

I wouldn't say it's discontinued. The scarcity of this Monitor comes and goes. If you notice there have been numerous times in this thread that this fear would happen only to have massive restocks a few weeks later. Currently there is no replacement for the 37W3 so it's fairly safe to assume it'll be here for a while longer. Personally I don't see there being a replacement til late this year or next year. The New TX series are being made in a different plant from what I have been told.

1) There is really not much that can change from this. You get 1080p, which is the maximum resolution now days, and thereis going to eba really long time before that changes. And 37" is the perfect size for a monitor. Anything higher than that will be too big. Also, you have several digital inputs. so this monitor is perfect.

2) ...

3)It does have component. But you can connect the xbox360 through VGA if you want to also.

4)Well, I don't know since I don't have it. But is guess they are "OK". But dude, don't you have a HT system, or maybe use your pc speakers?

5) I'll wait for newegg. They'll have them again in 6/8/07.

As for the speakers, they are awful if you're an audiophile, and just average if you're not. They're fine for everyday and computer applications. For games and movies, I use my external speakers.

So just to confirm, This monitor can handle the 360 being run over component cables? (It would probably be better to buy VGA cables wouldn't it?)

Also does this monitor include a supplied DVI cable? If not, can someone link me to a good one to connect it to my 8800GTX?

The best deal I found was http://www.pcnation.com/web/details.asp?item=3W100T

Anyone heard anything about em?

Edit: *Why the hell is the 42" version http://www.pcnation.com/web/details.asp?item=3W110T practically the same price as the 37"!?!?*

The speakers are fine for just watching the news and stuff.. for movies and games, go with external speakers.

i've heard that the 42 isn't optimal as a computer monitor unless/because youre sitting from 5+ feet away...

Hey guys, just out of curiosity, does the 37 or 47" inch westies fit in a toyota Camry? I'm thinking of going down to best buy tog et one, thanks :)

LOL, I don't think so. The TV is really big by itself, imagine the size of the box. But don't take my word for it, I don't have a Camry nor a westy. But think, maybe you have a friend that has a truck, or a van.

if you can fold the back seat down, you should have enough room.

what year is your camry? i have the '94 V6 LE

Where can I find a good price on this monitor? Everywhere I see online is $1200+

Hopefully a place with a return policy that doesnt shaft you ,and reliable/fast shipping?

If you want to buy online and get a return policy, you are pretty much stuck with crutchfield. Very good e-tailer, but they don't have the 37" currently in stock. 42" is available for $1299 shipped. Dammit, I wish I'd seen that price drop a week ago.

Wow, that IS a very good price. Excellent deal. Crutchfield have the best customer service I've dealt with in a long time. The return policy is also a plus, as is the free shipping, the "white glove" delivery, and the fact that they use Eagle instead of UPS or FedEx for such large shipments.

Downside? Prices, of course. Not the cheapest, not by any shot. The 42" Westy is a fortunate exception. I'm looking into 65" DLP TVs for my living room and I would really like to go with Crutchfield again, but they cost like $500 more than Amazon and pretty much anywhere else.

Is the 42"...THAT much bigger over the 37"? Is it still usable as a PC monitor, or will it rape my eyes?

37" is best at 2 - 3 ft away from you

42" is best from 3 - 4 ft away from you

I definitely prefer the 37" because it's hard to find a desk that let's you have this monster 4ft away from you.

If you wall mount it and move your desk back that would work though.

EDIT: If you have 30 minutes, a printer, some scissors, and some tape try this:

Print out 37":
http://www.westinghousedigital.com/pdf/56_Fullsize.pdf

Print out 42"
http://www.westinghousedigital.com/pdf/44_Fullsize.pdf

Then you will see for yourself.

Yeah I think I will go with my original choice which was the 37" such a bummer since crutchfield has such a good price on the 42"

Did anyone manage to find a place that has the 37" in stock for a reasonable price, with a decent return policy?

The 37" isn't that big by itself. It would fit well in the back seat if you had something to protect the screen, but the box it comes in is 43" x 30.5" x 13".

That's a tough call... I already think that the 37" is a tad too big. My ideal would be like a 34".... if they made one.

A 42" would be slightly too big for me, but then again, I might just get used to it. 42" would be my absolute largest screen for PC use... but the 37" is much more manageable.

Why not go to best buy and look at any of their random 37" vs 42" screens for comparison?

There is a big difference.... 5" makes a world of difference.

Good luck.

So you guys think I should just go ahead and order the 37" from PCNation?

I just dont want to look back and wish I got the 42". But seeing as how this will be mainly a PC monitor, i guess 42" really would be too big, wouldn't it.

$1,125 Shipped.

Go for it? Or pay an extra $150 for the 42. I wish I could decicde

Well remember you probably wont be using it for TV unless you have a tuner/cable box.. so its dedicated for your PC/consoles.. not like a TV.. if you were using it for mainly TV/DVD viewing... id say go bigger.. but 42 has got to be too big unless you really have a flexible setup and can sit far away.. then text readability is going to be an issue :(

As of this writing Newegg has "openbox" OEM versions of this display available......covered by Neweggs openbox return policy (return for refund within 15 days of invoice date) I'm personally leary because it may arrive without ANY accessories what-so-ever including the remote, powercord, etc.....have ordered alot from Newegg but never open box so I am not speaking from experience just from reading the Newegg open box policy.

Also, why would these be open box if Newegg doesn't take returns on this item?? Perhaps rejected shipments??

I'm about to hop on Live Chat and see if they can confirm whether it will ship with remote and power cord or not. I'd really like to get it because I'm desperate lol

They have them at Sams club on their online site (samsclub.com). I just ordered one last week and should be receiving it today. (Hopefully). It was $1050, but you'll have to pay local taxes + shipping cost. So I paid about $1250 total. I bought it from Sams club, simply because of their excellent return policy and extended warranty plan.

My bro and I bought two 537H Olevia's from newegg, they gave us the same warning, but they came perfectly sealed with all the goodies (remote etc.) I wouldn't be too worried if I were you

You might have trouble fitting in the back of a Camry... at least in the box.

If you take it out of the box you should have no problem.

I could barely fit it in the box into the back seat of my Crown Victoria. If I would have taken the bottom part of the seat out it would have been fine though.

To those considering the open box item from Newegg.... be careful what the rep tells you... they generally have no clue and will just quote policy (it may not include anything yada yada).

If you are thinking about buying the 42" then just realize it's going to be quite a bit larger than the 37" and you're going to have to sit further back from it.

Hey I have been having a ton of head ahces with my computer and playing games. All of my games seem to stutter for my last ditch effort at having my 8800gts 640mb card RMA'd I wonder if i need to use a dual link cable over my $1 single link cable. Could it be that my westy is not getting enough information to display the pictures correctly or am i going to have to send the 8800 back?

So everyone agrees that the 37" is the better choice for a computer monitor over the 42"?

I think so... some might be more fond of the larger one for TV and console gaming, but ~most~ (not all) here seem to think 37" is the best fit for PC.. especially for a desktop (close range) viewport...

Well, my 42W2 is DOA. Backlight is out, though it seems otherwise fine. Definitely a let down. Techonweb.com's service and terms simply blow. The price was nice, but all of my options through them sucked to varying degrees.

On the bright side, Westinghouse support was simply awesome. The tech and I agreed on the dead backlight within about 5 minutes and they agreed to cover return shipping after consideration of my situation. Frankly, I am extremely impressed with Westinghouse. Some electronics will always be DOA so I don't really hold that against them, but great customer service is rare as hell.

Can anyone with a repair/replacement experience through Westinghouse comment on how firm their four to six weeks turnaround figure is?

Note to all: If you have a good experience with Westinghouse support, ask to speak to their supervisor and make sure someone is told. These guys and gals benefit from customer praise (ie., material benefit, the supervisor was a bit vague, but he implied money) and it only inspires excellent future support.
