Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

I got a quick noob question, I am building a new rig (hopefully today) and wanted to know if their is a way of transferring all of my apps and OS from one drive to another or do I just have to reinstall everything? I want to upgrade to a raptor in about 2 or 3 months.

pm me or hit me up on aim and I can help you out.

Well one more very satisfied Westy luver.

Question for all you Westy owners, how do you think BFG 7800GTX SLI would fare on this monitor?

I dont want to upgrade my video card(s) just yet but would love to get a (much) larger panel. I mostly play BF2, CS:S, Oblivion, FEAR, and CoD2 right now at 1680x1050 on my 20" widescreen.

I suspect the 240x30 bump up will be fine, but I was wondering if any one of you guys was running 7800GTX SLI and all is good in the world. :)

I run one 7900GT Superclock and have yet to run into problems. I would say 7800GTX SLI will be fine for this monitor in just about everything you have listed. You may see a slight slow down in Oblivion and Fear with all the eye candy on but then again in those two games with all eye candy even new generation cards show slight slowdown.

Ha, mine will come off tonight. First thing I did was start plugging stuff up though. Still have a ton of tweaking and adjustments to make.

my 32w6 still has its' orange sticker, i dunno why it hasn't come off yet, but when i take it off i want to make sure i dont leave any residue on the tv.

I slid the top of the box off of mine and before even getting it out of the bottom of the box I took it off as I did not want to have the blue sticker take my attention away from the sheer size of the screen :)

Newbie Here! I have been waiting to buy this monitor for a few months. But the only thing that is stopping me is the handshake issue with PS3 since I have a ps3. I have noticed today sony released new firmware version 1.54 for ps3.
News here:http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/01/sony-ps3-firmware-v1-54/

Can someone who has a ps3 care to upgrade the firmware and check with westinghouse monitor to see if the handshake issue is gone. Thanks mucho...:D

Well after watching this thread for a long time now i am going to be picking up this monitor for $975 on Friday! I was going to get a tv tuner also, is the Hauppauge 1600 a good pick or is anyone using a better one?

LOL, why do 3/4 of the westy pictures in this thread still have the blue sticker on the upper right of the monitor? I had that thing off in the first 5 seconds that mine saw the light of day. :p

HEH, there's also a scratch protective plastic film over the area where the W is that even more people seem to leave on for whatever reason, and it's fugly.

I was thinking the same thing, and it's probably closer to 90%. ;)

Just wondering if anyone uses this on a macbook pro and if so, how it handles the max resolution in gaming and videos.

Cheers

It's not fixed yet. Hopefully the 1.6 update fixes this.

This was not the firmware meant to fix the issue, the next March one is supposed to. I just use HDMI for my cable box and my PC to one DVI and the PS3 to the other DVI, no issues.

And yes, wider is better. The 42 was great, the 47 is just bigger and better IMO. I find the IQ to be a tad better on the 47, mainly sharpness and colors are just better. But for PC desktop the 37 is the way to go simply due to size.

Excellent thread guys, just wondering do any of you think this monitor will still be selling in the summer? I plan to purchase it in the summer when I am off from school, and have a confirmed job. I definitely could buy it right now, but I want to make sure I have a set job for the summer, heh.

I don't see why not....so far there are so many people with it who will say nothing bad about it (in terms of Major issues). WestingHouse might change the model or something but I don't think they would stop the sale of their 1080p monitors. The market for HD, TV or Computer Monitors, varies greatly and since there aren't many solutions that are actually 1080p at this size and price range this monitor should be available for quite some time. I was actually really surprised after making a walk through of the local costco here....Nothing actually had a 1080 display they were all 768 displays that were compatible with 1080i signals (de-lacing and all). It is a shame though since many of the products are very large meaning that many people might not realize what is going on until they want that 1080 resolution and can't get it. Yeah it might be hard to tell the difference until you really look for it but it is there.

**Yes this is a very small sample, but costco can be viewed as a store that might cater to the general consumers, not cutting edge tech at the store from the website different items can be sold since they don't have to have such a large supply to accommodate all their stores. But the website does have a number of 1080p displays and for the most part they are 2k or more.

I shared similar thoughts before posting as well. I am sure if there are people willing to buy the LVM-37W3 then Westinghouse would have no reason to stop selling unless of course they discontinue it for whatever reason.

I am curious -- how much lower in price do you think the 37" will fall? I mean don't get me wrong, $1,000 is already a great deal for a 37" 1080p LCD HDTV considering it is hard to find a mid-30" LCD with a 1920 x 1080 native resolution and 1080p capability. When I went to Best Buy I saw mostly 720p sets that could accept a 1080i signal, but would immediately down convert the picture to its native resolution of 1366 x 768. I don't think I have found one that had a native resolution of 1920 x 1080.

I honestly could buy three LVM-37W3's if I wanted, but I want to have a steady income in case of emergencies and unexpected situations where extra money would come in handy.

I am also worried about what my parents will think when this baby is sitting on my desk, in my room, and in their house. Why should I care though? It’s my money right? I worked close to 500 hours last summer at EMC in the Help Desk answering calls from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Saturday through Monday. I definitely have the right to “splurge” every once in a while.

Wanting and needing are different though, heh. My parent’s keep telling me to save up for a new car since the one I am driving is approaching 14 years of age, heh.

I’ll stop rambling now, carry on.

The cost of these....hum that is a tough one. There are many variables that you might have to look at.

Manufacturing Costs
Market Saturation (Basically Demand)

These are the major items that will effect the price (IMHO) (of course best buy has different thoughts selling them at $1500). Many paths could be taken here are a few:

#1 ~ WH could order more of the same screens, Same price or negotiates a lower price.
#2 ~ The LCD maker contacts WH and says I have X screens @ Y price, Would you like to like them. Which equates to less cost to WH and maybe less price to us (I don't know WH's pricing models).
#3 ~ WH might solicit other LCD manufacturers for the same size panel having better qualities and possibly a cheaper price.See #2 about the cheaper price.
#4 ~ The purchasing rate drops and many places have a surplus of stock and request the option to sell for less to elevate the investment on this overstock.
#5 ~ People look for bigger. Interest drops. Price Drops.
#6 ~ Some new thing comes out and 1080p is no longer GREAT. (BETTER NOT HAPPEN  :D ) Again Interest Drops, Price Drops.

Also and interesting thing that will happen too is that as the price drops it will open the monitor up to more customers that might have a lower budget so it is a slow process. Yeah enough about prices....lol....back to work.

Venting is fun Ain't it?

hey guys...i got my westy like last week and when i try to play my games theres a black bar on the side of the screen..i tried the game with dell 2407 and dell 3007 and they work fine..so it must have supported widescreen..so what setting should i tweak to get them to appear in full with my westy?

thanks

Just curious as to which bracket are you guys buying to mount this beast? I am ready to hang mine, but was wanting some leads on which LCD mounts are good. Westinghouse sells one on their website, and I imagine that would suffice, but is there a better one out there to consider?

I just need it to mount, and tilt up and down. No need to swivel from left to right, or come out on an arm. Flush mount with enough clearance to tilt it up and down slightly based on viewing angle.

Thanks! :p

Well it I've officially gone HD.
my 37" 1080p Westinghouse came in yesterday, it's almost perfect. (one stuck green pixel near the bottom, but it's not really noticeable)

Got my 37" Westinghouse a few weeks ago.

Lessons learned:
1) Dont bother with VGA cables. Just go buy a DVI or HDMI and be done with it. I spent several hours trying to center the picture using VGA and it was 100% resolved in 2 seconds by buying a DVI cable and using that.

2) The speakers suck. But you already knew that

3) Get a couple of PC TV cards and you can really do some cool things with the Picture-in-Picture. I can watch HD from either my two capture cards (pumped to the TV via DVI) or a cable box I got to go with this monitor. I can have 3 feeds up at once and independently control the sound on all of them. Kinda handy if you are an ADD channel surfer like I am.

4) I don't think, in 10 years, we will distinguish between "TV's" and "Computer Monitors". After using this, I see no reason to ever consider another computer monitor unless space is an issue.

5) I paid $999 at Newegg.

6) I can run almost all of my games (BF2, BF2142, NWN, HL2) at full settings, 1920x1080. I don't like a lot of anti-aliasing so usually it is set at 2x most of the time. No problems and about 40-70fps on my BFG 7950GT-OC (565/1400). I was suprised at the performance since the resolution was so high but really, its been MUCH better than I expected. Haven't run into anything I can't do on both my 37" and 20".

Excellent, but what about NewEgg's return policy?

I have a DVICO Fusion HDTV 5 USB Tuner with QAM with a Terk OTA antenna which I use to watch HD broadcasts. Most of my favorite TV shows are broadcasted on the local channels anyways. If my dad does end up getting DirectTV or Dish I'll use the cable box for that, and still use my OTA setup for watching two channels at the same time, ;)

I plan on clearing the whole top of my desk and removing the left side piece off my desk. I am sure that will make plenty of room for the LVM-37W3.

Well I got my rig up and running Thursday night and almost have all of my software loaded on it. All I can say is WTF have I been doing on a laptop for four years! My 8800 GTS is insane and my 37" westy makes it shine! Had some friends over and one by one watched their jaws drop when they walked into the office! As soon as I get the office in order picks are on the way!

P.S. Best Damn purchase ever!

Guys do i needa Regular DVI to DVI cable to connect the Westy to my PC or a Dual Link DVI cable to Dual link DVI Cable? Thanks in advance im buying 2 37s from newegg today they got them for $999 so its a pretty good deal and no sales tax is a plus too.

Does anyone know what can be causing a slight buzz/hum noise?

this is my 2nd westinghouse i swapped and this one is getting the same problem :( it seems to happen in the morning as well.. i don't understand.

"Regular" AKA single DVI cables work to push the 1080p monitor. You can use Dual Link but there might not be much difference....it will all be based on Westinghouse's implementation of "Blanking" so it might be better or the exact same.

Exactly the same.. extra 6 connection are simply not utilized

do you guys recommend this monitor asd the main tv in my bedroom instead of a pc monitor? i will have it hooked up via dvi to my hd cable box.
I would also like it to hook it up to my dvd player and xbxox 360
