Who still uses Socket A platform in their main rig?

I've still got my Mobile 2400+ (oced of course) but I'm going to be in need of a new/better mobo for it, the POS VIA I'm using now is nothing but a headache.

I might go AM2 or s939 soon so I might to sell this Mobile or keep it, I haven't decided yet.

I am,but not for much longer. Already have an Opty 144,but need a mobo and video card.

Looks like if you can get your Athlon XP clocked fast enough you can still run with todays midrange systems.

Add an AGP 7800GS (same speed as a PCIe 7600GT) and you could keep a good Athlon XP rig going for another year or two.

I'm still running AMD Athlon XP 3000+. I have another rig running with the AMD Athlon XP 3200+. I thought I was alone too. Guess not. I will be upgrading sometime within the next year. Just depends on the $.

I gave my sister a:

3100+ Sempron (Barton 400 mhz FSB OEM)
6600GT
2x512 Corsair value

etc etc

Runs great for what she does and then some. Really can't go wrong...

Socket A atholon XP 1.9Ghz, but i told it to run 2.1... + 6600GT, vmoded and running 620/520

yet i still need more power for HL2 :(

im gonna get an AM2 optie 165 (or w.e cheapist dual core is) oc the piss outta it, and install $190 worth of liquid cooling... this is all for end of augest

HL2 should be fine with that setup, allthough the 6600GT might be a slight issue...please don't tell my you are trying to run it with 16x AF and 6X AA

I love my XP-M :D

ASUS A7V880 VIA KT880
AMD Athlon XP-M 2600+ @ 2.4GHz
Kingston KVR400 2x512MB @ 2.5-3-3-8
Sparkle GeForce 6600GT 128MB

Still kicking ass ;)

sold my A64 setup so now im using my fiances XP2500+ Barton setup until I find a nice notebook for myself.

Still runnin the system in my sig, Kinda losing ground to my pwnage laptop, god bless asus!

Whenever USPS gets my new motherboard and processor across the border, I will (almost sadly) be kissing my XP 2500+ Barton goodbye. I'm sure I won't miss it once I start going into that crazy world where you turn the graphics in your games up, not just down.

i literally gave up my socket A about 2 weeks ago, the thing served me perfectly for 4 years, but finally i let it go to another member of the [H], that thing is still going strong from what i hear.

truth be told socket A is one of those platforms that in overall stability, and tweak factor has been hard to beat, i abused every socket A i built and they just kept rolling

Im on Socket A until college financial aid comes in :). My system is:

Sempron 2400+ at 2ghz
640mb ddr2700 ram (generic)
9800 pro
2 40gb 7400rpm 2mb cache hd
and an old white atx case thats always open and make ppl underestimate my computer

I actually managed to get oblivion to work on this system with lots of tweaks (without using oldblivion)! Get between 10-25 fps outdoors, but still, its working! I mainly play that & trackmania nations on it. Heres 2 pics of Oblivion on my pc:
ScreenShot385.jpg

ScreenShot237.jpg

not the greatest, but looks VERY good for this system.

I`m still using my old Socket A Beast,

I orginally bought this system 6 years ago, still using the same Mobo! :D

Its done well, and apart from the latest games(which I can still run at low detail), it does everything I need...

Looking forward to conroe or K8L...thats gonna be some upgrade :D

Still socket A here as well.
Running a 3000+ Barton core on my trusty and much loved Epox 8RDA+.
Got a Geforce 5900XT and the system has done really well with most of the games so far. HL2 was some work for it but it managed. Oblivion is an evil sucker on my system. heh
While I love my little Socket A it's time for it to retire for sure.
I'm still undecided on whether to go AM2 or C2D. AM2 is just rather unimpressive at the moment and K8L doesn't sound all that special either. Intel generally scares me because their performance comes and goes and I'll have to wait until nVidia get's an Intel chipset out for conroe as I do not even want to come near ATi for a dual vid card setup.
Although I hear there is a hack to enable SLi on Intel chipsets but I guess it's rather unstable.

Glad to see I'm not alone in my socket A slowness. :D

I ran a Barton 2500+ @ 3200+ with 1GB Corsair Value and a XFX 6600GT up until about 2 months ago. Was a fine system and still is. Even sold the video card for a bit of cash. I just need to reassemble it and put it to use.

Running a X2 3800+, the same value RAM, ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe and a PNY 7900GT. Covers all my gaming needs nicely. I should think about some more RAM though with Vista coming down the line.

Should probably fix my signature.

yea baby, Socket A here to, Thoroughbred 2400+ not overclocked yet but once the new cooler comes it will be. hope to push it to 2.4/5

nice antiques there. I always thought socket A was way too underpowered for most modern games. The first pc i built was socket A. I sold it to my bro and he paired it with a 6800 GT but the cpu held it back. It was a barton 2800 xp.

Yep, but building a new PC now because of Civ 4 and Oblivion.

Running a Sempron 2400+ @2.0ghz, 2X1GB Corsair PC3200, evga 6600 GT with two IDE drives totaling 500 gb of storage.

It definately showed its age when Civ 4 hit since I really don't play FPS's.

Wow, and I thought I was the only one still running an Athlon XP

Mine is an Athlon XP 2500 OC'd to 3200 and well it still does a good job. It's running with an ATI X800XL with my new Gateway 21" LCD. Games still run pretty smoothly even at 1680 X 1050.

I'm currently though just spending all my money on watercooling parts. And getting my case mods all done before I start buying some new hardware. By the time I save up and get ready to purchase I'll probably get the K8L and a directx 10 GPU and be very happy playing Crysis :)

I recently built a XP 2400 Mobile/MSI Nforce2 Ultra system ...running at 2.5ghz on air !

No problems with any game (including Oblivian) or application ...& I also have approx. 50 new Socket A motherboards & processors (most are unlocked) ...so for now, I don't see any reason or need to upgrade.

My Socket A is still kicking. About the only game I play is BF2 and my Socket A does that ok.
Maybe I'll upgrade to Conroe down the road.

Athon XP [email protected] 1.8V
Thermalright ALX800
MSI K7N2 Delta2-LSR
Corsair Valueram PC3200 1GB x 2

yea... i dont do that, but iv realized i want more then 1000X700. infact i want more then 1600X1200, i want a new monitor (24" from dell) and 1900X1200. im thinking i could go blow $100 on a new proc and $500 on that 7800GS with a 7800GT core from gainward, but i donno, seems sorta like im putting crutches on the dieing giant, and would be best to get a new rig entirly.

I still have my socket A, 2400xp-m. Heck I'm getting ready to watercool it soon. It needs to last me until next year. Hopefully I'll have enough money to upgrade then.

I'm running a 2400+XP-M @2.5Ghz[200x12.5] on 1.725v
Pair that with a new x800xl from ati store clearance and I should be set for the rest of the year.

XP-M 2500 at 2400Mhz @1.65v (220x11)
9800 pro
Gig 'o ram

its been good but ill upgrade soon, gotta start reading the boards again and do some research first

or maybe ill just pick up a x850 or something and stick it out a while longer

Im still using a 2700 so, I qualify as a ScoketA user. If it is working then I dont worry about it.

I thought about doing this, but the X850 AGP is way too expensive. The PCIe version is $130 and the AGP is like $250 new.

I had the system in my Sig up until a few months ago when the motherboard died. The mobo actually died right after I bought it and Shuttle shipped me a new BIOS chip. Now many years later it did it again and I bought a Sempron 3100+ with an NF3 mobo combo for a little more than the cost of the new bios chip from shuttle.

I gave my 2500+ mobile to a buddy of mine to replace his locked chip, which he still uses for WoW daily.

That's what I did. Works Fantasyastical!

Almost exactly what I run. In fact, I still have that exaact mobo, but I switched to NF7-S Rev2 because if issues. How do you like your system. My runs everything fine at 1280 x 1024 with max detail.

Sorry for not replying sooner I was out of town. I have had some issues with that MSI motherboard as well, but it's the only replacement I could find after my Abit AN7 died. I still like my system. It plays BF2 at 1280 x 1024 with max detail, and that’s good enough for me

same here, my rig plays BF2, Quake 4, Doom 3 and Prey with out any issues. Why ditch Socket A if its still kicking it

I came to the realization yesterday that most of my rig is going on 4 years old now. I have been running an Athlon XP 2100+ since 2002. So I decided to upgrade.

Here is what I have coming:
Athlon 64 X2 4000+ AM2
Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe
Radeon X1900XT
Corsair XMS2 1 GB (2x512) DDR2-800
WD SE16 WD2500KS 250GB SATA HD
Antec TruepowerII TPII-550 for power
Antec Performance P180 Silver case

All I will be carrying over from my current system are my optical drives. This will be my most significant upgrade ever. Needless to say, I am very excited and can't wait for my stuff to come !
