Please tell me I'm not alone. Anyone still using the trusty Socket A these days on [H]? I'm itching to buy an A64 3200+ and OC the piss out of it though. I want to get a 939 proc but I guess I'm too cheap. :D

Athlon XP 3000+!!!! You are not alone! I too am wanting a 939 or possibly a AM2 mobo. I hope I will have my new AMD system before this fall, currently upgrading the case, psu, gpu, and getting a new soundcard for the XP rig. Yay.

Hah, socket a right here... this thing has lasted me forever... but their are some games out now that i wouldnt really think about playing on this computer, mainly because my monitors native res is 1280x1024 and my poor 9800 pro is showing its age. other than that.. this thing is still going strong.

Why are you running your Mobile stock?

YES, you are not alone, and neither am I, as I had previously thought, lol. I will be going to AM2 shortly hopefully. But XP 3200 still going strong.

I'm still running a 2500+ in my main rig. Its getting kind of long in the tooth and I'm really looking forward to turning this into a media pc upgrading my main rig to an X2 this summer, but all these new parts sure don't grow on trees...

See sig, though my Gearmesh is no longer stock. AMD Paulaner 760MPX board instead of the 760MP Thunder K7. Dual Athlon MP2000's, working on finding a pair of XP-M 2400's. The Blackwing's a dual MP1200 development box. Also have an XP2200 'ordinary' PC behind me. Believe it or not, I play City of Heroes on the dual MP2000's, quite well at that. :)

if you are to get a processor for socket 939, the opteron 144 is THE way to go, monarch computer is currently carrying the CAB1E stepping which hits 3ghz easily :)

Socket A no longer exists in my primary computer, but I have a secondary computer that I use sometimes that has an Athlon XP 2000.

I do as well. I have a Barton 3200 running on an FIC K7MNF-64. It will keep me going until I go AM2 sometime later this year.

athlon 1.2ghz thunderbird here with the original radeon

i need to upgrade in a few months :p

I am using Athlon 1200+ with ATI 9200, and not planning to upgrade for another 2 years.

Still using my unlocked 2500 Barton...almost 4 years now. It's showing its age, but it still works great.

wifes main pc is a biostar m7ncg 400 with 512 and a 2400 mobile doing 2200 mhz. All in a qpack next to the pc in my sign. Upgrading her to 939 soon though.

heh, i just gave my friend my...

Athlon XP 3000+
512mb Corsair XMS Ram
Geforce 6600GT
250gb hard disk
350w antec smartpower

Go socket A. Poor college student here. Can't afford anything new and this beast of a system (see sig) has to last me through grad school. Only thing that has crapped out on me in the last 4 years was my PSU. Everything else including the AWESOME barton 2800+ has been running strong on stock cooling. Plus with this setup I am still getting ~70-80 fps (1280x960) in CS:source and that is all i need to keep owning all the noobs. Any other game does not matter to me.

oh yeah i gave him the mobo too...

I guess I am nice? I don't have any more 512mb sticks lying around, sorry.

Yep, plan on doing a vid and HD upgrade soon and it lasting me at least 1-2 years more. This is fairly highend for me.

Dont have money for computer stuff constantly, need a car!

From Sig:

DEAD (RMA): R9600XT - Replacing with some X800 Varient, or w/e comes RMAed if its good
Seasonic S12 330w- just got, runs great.
Hitachi 7K80 80gb SATA

Holy shit only $140? That's a bargain. Are they multiplier locked?

I wonder how far I can take it with this: http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=110333
yes it is a bargain and yes they are multiplier locked, juss get a mobo that can hit high HT speeds (like an Epox 9NPA+ ultra or DFI ultra-d) and you should be able to hit 3ghz on air :) i was able to with my friend's 144, ss here:

My first build and still going strong. See Sig. Below.

I was spec'ing a A8N-SLI / X2 3800+ for a new rig but AM2 got me wavering now.

BTW I just retired my Pentium 166. I think my Socket A has at least another 10 years left on it. LOL.

Beware! That board does not have an PCI/AGP lock! The highest FSB you'll get is 240 before your hard disks start to act up.

Damn, I knew it was too good to be true. I guess I'll have to get an NF3 with AGP until I can upgrade to a PCIE card.

Socket A AthlonXP 2500+ barton, OCed to 190Mhz FSB. Still tring to hang in there until Vista for a complete overhaul.

wow! tons of Socket A users out there!
I used to have a Socket A - Abit NF7-S, Sempron 2500+ @ 2.2ghz, 1.5gb Corsair XMS, 9800 XT, and a Audigy 2 ZS. But i sold it and bought this 939 rig thats in sig...

about the asrock board, i think it is a great board. i am using it now with an amd 64 3200+. i have not tried overclocking yet but i shall soon.

my parents and my brother all have socket a machines. my bros old pc that he does not use anymore since he got a powerbook g4 has an xp 2500+ in it, my parents machine has an xp 2600+ in it and my dads machine at work(my old pc) has an xp 3000+ in it. still great little machines.

amd xp 2600 at 2150, holding off a bit to upgrade see what the next gen will bring. still using a Ti4200 too but, i just play wow and planetside so it is holding me off for now.

I used socket A until about a month ago. Had a 2100+ running at 2.2ghz. It's sick that it was still basically fast enough to handle whatever, and it's how many years old? It exists no more, as lightning struck it through the phone line.

Thorton 2400+ @ 2,2Ghz running strong on my main box for about 3 years, which replaced my T-bird 1400 I had for 2 years b4 that. Plus a 9600xt with about 20% OC. I am still amazed how long this system has lasted me, but definately starting to shows its age, waiting on conroe b4 I make my final upgrade decision, but it will take some very strong numbers to sway me over to intel, and even then, not sure I could do it.

Also running a K6-II 300 and a K6-III 450, one as NAS, the other running squid. :)

Is there any reason other than gaming to upgrade from Socket A?

Media Encoding and Compiling are the two things making me want to upgrade now, just getting too slow these days. Able to play many games now with reduced settings, and WOW plays pretty nice even at 1680x1050 with mid settings with my current system (see previous post)

Before I moved out for college last year I had an Barton xp 2800 that served me quite well. Now I have an AMD latop with a mobile Athlon 3700

It seems to me that alot of you upgrading computer every two years or so. Isn't that wasting money?

I get a new computer every 6 to 7 years.
