Viewsonic VX2025wm arrived! First impressions and pics

Here is a link to my reply in this thread that has the settings I use for this monitor:

elvn's settings reply #928

The most important setting I came across vs the frost anti-glare layer is the image sharpening slider in the nvidia color control settings.

are there no way of tuning down the brightness and contrass of this monitor? i set everything to 0 and everything appears to be quite bright at 0 for my taste.

I got my personal VX2025WM yesterday, just been too sick to open the box until tonight. Daaaamn it's wide... Gonna set her up now. :D

Use the brightness and contrast adjustments provided by your video card drivers?

Got mine too! But It has a dead pixel. how sad. but the LCD looks nice! I love it!

what's holding me the dead pixel.

Got Mine today, BEAUTIFUL!!!
No dead Pixels, No noticable backlight bleeding, Excellent, excellent, excellent.
Still need to check out gaming and movies but so far, I couldn't be happier.
Thanks a TON to all in this thread for providing me the information about this monitor that help me decide to purchase. It rawks! ;)

I just tried it on 7900GT and I can confirm changing the dvi port does not work. This makes sense, since all the reports about scaling not working have always been from 7900 users. I already saw people confirmed it works on 7600 & 7800 couple weeks ago, but never on 7900. I hope it is just a driver problem that can be fixed in the future.

Confirmed again. In fact at first I couldn't get the 'Digital Flat Panel' settings item to show up on my existing installation of the drivers (91.31) with my 7900GT. I think it's because I had an analogue monitor hooked up at the time I installed the drivers. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and that seems to have worked as now I have the DFP item in the nvidia control panel.

If I change the scaling settings at ALL I get an 'Out of range' message from the VX2025WM. Doesn't matter which DVI port I use. Glad to see this is working for 7800GT users but my 7900GT wants to be able to do it too! I hope it's just a driver issue...

The monitor is a BEAUTY though... dead sexy and so WIDE. No dead pixels that I can see but I'm going to run dead pixel buddy later to check for sure.

About the buy.com visa.. did it apply to your order or no? I signed up for one but it said it would have to process my card.

Yes it did, I had already received the card so, I Knew it would.
Took em about 2 weeks for them to decide I should get one.
Check you junk mail often, My Reply from them that said I got it was "Junked"

The coupon says you have to buy a system to get the rebate. .

You are correct, I was mistaken. I still think $329 is a good deal, Especially when I look at it on my desk ;)

Also doesn't work for me it said No Signal but when i use VGA using a DVI adapter it works. I wonder is it that DVI cable that came with the Viewsonic as it missing a few pins. Using SLi'ed 7800 GTX.

***stupid question alert*****

1. What HD resolutions can this monitor display?
2. I know you can get an HDMI to DVI cable, but could you use a DVI to VGA connector on the end so that I can use the DVI port for gaming and PC use and the VGA port for TV?

What I am trying to do is hook up my HD/DVR box to my monitor without having to sacrifice the DVI port.

Also received my monitor today. I'll have to post some pics when I get my desktop gets cleaned up (whenever that will happen.) What color settings is everyone finding as the "best" for them?

just got mine in today as well. its pretty slick, im diggin it. got it for $270 after rebate

the sparklies are kinda annoying me, they look like distortion or what not but i think i'll keep the monitor

yea are people using 6500k or 9300k? i cant decide

mtbaird said:
wait, 9300k warm? wouldnt it be cooler, thats what it looks like it would be called to me

Yeah s'cuse me I got it back asswards, :p

I find that 6500k seems to be the happy medium for me... whites look white, etc.

at 9300k things seem way too 'blue' for me, and at 5400k things seem to have a pink tint.

ahah aight just makin sure i wasnt totally confused.

sRGB seems to be the same as 6500k for me, whats sRGB exactly

I am not sure, but I found sRGB's white color is whiter than 6500k, so I am using sRGB instead. Also for the fact that it's easier to adjust color using only the video card's control panel, instead of doing a 2 way adjust with both the monitor and the video card.

I think I remember somewhere saying sRGB is the webpage standard or something... but that might not the be same sRGB here.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the sparklies? I'd like to look into that if you could explain what you mean.

if you read through the thread others talk about it in more detail. basically when oyu stare at the screen, mainly with whites you see this thin layer of sparkles. hard to explain.

i noticed it big time when i first started using the monitor but now im getting more used to it and its not a big deal. try and see the monitor in person before buying if you are really worried

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I really don't have time to browse through all the pages of this thread, so here goes.

I noticed that this LCD's specification states DVI-D. Now that "D" at the end stands for Dual Link, correct? I have also learned that this LCD comes with a DVI cable. By any chance this included DVI cable is a "DVI-D" type? Also, what am I missing out should I not go for the DVI-D and just use a regular DVI cable.

I know that a dell 3007wfp REQUIRES a Dual Link DVI cable and a Dual Link capable video card to even unlocks its maximum potential resolution. That is the reason why I'm concerned about this LCD and the DVI-D specification.

I JUST got off the phone ordering this thing and is quite ecstatic, so thanks for all the response. :)

i just got my monitor, hooked it up briefly on dual display, other monitor was the Dell 2007.

This monitor is so much brighet then the dell in stock form.

Images much crisp.

Viewsonic +1
Dell 2007 -1

lol

will repost more reviews after gaming later.

The D doesn't stand for 'Dual Link' and as far as I know the VX2025WM doesn't need a dual-link card to obtain it's full native resolution. That honor is reserved for the huuuuge LCD panels.

The D means 'Digita'' from what I understand, and means that it's a DVI cable/port capable of carrying digital video only.

DVI-D = Digital DVI
DVI-A = Analogue DVI
DVI-I = Digital / Analogue (can carry both signals)

Ah, thanks so much for the speedy response. I suppose the included DVI cable as mentioned in the packaging should suffice. :)

Woah, you've got both monitors? Can try to post some comparison shots? I've got a 2025, and I'm thinking of switching to a 2007.

I'm particularly interested in the viewing angles, as it seems that the Viewsonic has poorer viewing angles (not to mention a reddish color cast at the extreme ends).

Not sure if the S-IPS panel makes a heck of a difference over the MVA panel.

i just got mine and all i can say is WOW. its huge! i have had no problems yet so far played a couple games and they look great. no dead pixels. dvd's look great. very very happy with this lcd. highly recommended. ill prolly post some pictures soon. thx to everyone on this thread to help me make my decision.

Small request.
but how high is it from the base to the bottom of the screen?

I wanted to post this reply yesterday but the forum was down a long time.

I had trouble with eyestrain on text beneath the frost anti-glare layer of the screen. Using default windows xp fonts and font sizes with cleartype turned on helped. I also used cleartype tuner. It still bothered my eyes. When I installed this same monitor at my mother's house I found that her screen was much easier to read. I at first attributed this soley to her room lighting vs the dark area my computer is in. I now realize that the default display parameters of our two very different video cards were much of the reason. I have a nvidia 6600 GT.

A few days ago I went into the nvidia driver panel to bump the vibrance up a notch, and came across the Image Sharpening slider bar. I hadn't really noticed it before. I bumped the sharpness up a bit and the text looked MUCH BETTER. It still blurry on some really tiny text that show up on a few menus, such as the main nView display settings menu where below it says "Make this the primary display" with a checkbox. The text there is very tiny and still looks "smudged". However all the other text at more common font sizes has improved greatly. My eyes can focus on nice sharp font edges now. I can't get over how much better it looks.

If I zero the ImageSharpening all text looks very blurry. Sliding too far to the right over sharpens. I moved it up until it was over sharp then backed it down until it was 'just right'.

Here is a screenshot of the Color Corection panel from the nvidia driver settings:

nvidia6600_colorpanel.jpg

My monitor itself was set to Contrast 62 and Brightness 36 before I adjusted the driver panel to Contrast 91% , Brightness 100% , Gamma 0.88 . I could probably adjust the monitor control's contrast so the driver panel's wouldn't need to be below 100% but thats how I have it for now.

I'm really glad I stumbled on that setting. Before this I was considering returning it. Now I think this monitor is very good.

Great job!! I love the way it looks now, except I didn't like the sharpening thing-a-ma-bob.

I love this monitor... Titan Quest is friggin' MADE for widescreen monitors I think. :D

Nah at work were a dell reseller, so we took one of the free 20inchs that came with the puters and didn't give to client.

I only played with it shortly. The dell is a nice monitor, but not as sharp as this one. If i was to look closely at the start menu on the old one i could see the shapes used to make the image.

Its hella alot cleaner and brigther. I dunno bout viewing angles, i only look at my monitors from teh front.....

This monitor was 270 bucks after rebates, compared to the 400inch Dell 20inch. Much b etter bang for buck.

Anyway, i hooked monitor up, played a few rounds of CS, insane, watches some mpegs and jsut as good.

Ill post back later.

Now that I've gotten some exposure to this LCD, I can see what people mean about the "screen door effect".

It can be spotted when you look up REAL close to the LCD. Particularly on images that goes back and forth a couple pixels. I was playing WoW and my gnome was bobbing back and forth, I can immediately see the effect then. However, at 1 foot away, it is BARELY noticable to my eyes. I usually sit a good 3-4 feet away so it doesn't bother me. :) I'm at work right now, so I haven't had a chance to play w/ the scaling yet. (I didn't think about it before I read more of this thread)

About the desk mount, are there any _other_ deskmounts of good quality for cheaper than the NeoFlex? I was looking at the buy.com for 68ish dollars and felt like it's slightly overpriced. I like the 2 flex though, so nice.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this LCD is ABSOLUTELY crisp. I upgraded from the x2gen 17" LCD with VGA. Even the very texts on this forum is CRISP. And for the first time, I actually have to "turn" my head to see the "other side" of the screen.(when I'm up close to it at least) hahaha

nice game pics. They do seem hazy (screen door effect) Is that your camera doing that or the monitor?

Probably a combination of my camera (Canon A60) and the fact that the light was on in the room and slightly reflecting off the screen's finish. Next time I'll remember to turn the light off.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous on this monitor, I have no complaints.

I never actually paid much attention, so it does... lol I guess that could be handy for portability or something.
