GRAW pc demo is out

Sweet! Now I get to try for free a game I was going to buy anyway. Now I'll know though.

I sliced my finger on a cheap case. :( I will be pretty bad for awhile.

Fileshack has it. Right now, 0 wait times and 145KB/Sec, which is great for my connection.

Can't wait for this to finish!

Amanda ;)

ghost recon.. i never liked the first game, the slow pace put me to sleep, but whatever floats your boat

I don't think so. I think it can...but you need the card

Thats what I meant. I am wondering if this is the first playable game those who own the card can play.

I wonder if the demo has the PhysX stuff in it?
It does.

It even installs the drivers, even if you don't have a PhysX card. Yay... :\

Anyway, I just played it some and it's not as attractive as the screens I've seen for the 360 and such. Granted, I think HDR was off by default.

I need to mess with the settings a bit, but so far it's cool.

Few pics I took.

Pic 4 shows the horrible jaggies without AA enabled.. power lines look terrible.

They are rather large, so Ill just link them. I am at 1920x1200, with 16xAF on enabled thru the game, and HQ AF enabled in the drivers. Mip Map detail level is to the max in the drivers. All game options are set to max in the game. So basically, everything but AA is set to the highest. I didnt have AA on, because I didnt see it in the game options. I dont know if Im blind, but I just dont see it.

Thanks for the pics, Fallguy! Looks kinda like BF2 but... worse. I've played GR1 and 2 for the Xbox and they were kinda fun. I'll be checkin' out this demo whenever me download finishes...

Well I just went through the demo and I must say I'm impressed.

Despite the fact that some graphical options weren't there for the demo (at least I assume it's the demo and not because of my specs), it was still very enjoyable and... basically, awesome.

At first the firefights were "meh", long range crap but the second firefight is friggin awesome.

I just stumbled into the area by myself and was under fire from every direction. Took some cover behind a car, brought up the satellite to guide my teammates to my aid and watched them via their cams coming to my aid.

Wow.

Me likey!!!

What kind of rig do you have?

Same thing I'm putting together (been asking his advice) Crossfired x1900 AMD rig. :D

Hopefully like Tomb Raider, they only saved the high level graphics that only some can use for download purposes. The full game often has better graphics lately. Did you notice any missing options or things that only let you go mid-high?

Too bad theres no aa, and the hdr doesnt really look that impressive.
But the demo does kick ass :)

Yeah. Textures are medium, AA is unavailable, as is HDR.

Again, I'm not sure if they did it out for my 7600GT (for some reason), or the demo is just like that.

Judging from the other dude's screenshots, though, it seems we're at the same graphical quality... so I would assume it's the same for everyone.

Ok, after some more testing with, and without Crossfire working, I have some strange conclusions. For some reason, CF seems to get more than 2x the frames at times. I know thats not possible (unless cards are under clocked, then overclocked), so if anyone has some insight, feel free to let me know. Some examples of what Im talking about below.

That is the spawn point. So the shots are from a 100% identical standpoint. As you can see, without CF it was 27, with it 58. More than double.

http://home.comcast.net/~denverfall/GRAW/GRAWCF2.jpg

Much bigger difference here. 21fps up to 54fps. This is still the spawn point, I just moved left.

http://home.comcast.net/~denverfall/GRAW/GRAWNOCF3.jpg
http://home.comcast.net/~denverfall/GRAW/GRAWCF3.jpg

The biggest difference so far. 22fps jumped up to 58fps. Almost triple.

All of these shots are with the same exact settings. All I did when changing, was rename the .exe of the game. Thats it. I didnt change any driver, or game settings. The only thing I can think of, is naming it to "AFR-FriendlyD3D" perhaps has some sort of optimizations? I am not claiming that CF in this game gives you 2x+ the performance increase, Im just a little confused as to why I am getting these results. The images look the same to me. Open them up side by side, and compare. I cant see any difference in quality anywhere. They are at 1920x1200 so most people wont be able to see them how they are ment to be seen. They were taken with FRAPS in a .bmp format, then converted to .jpeg with ACDSee.

Opty 165, X1900s in Crossfire, 2gigs, X-Fi, Raptor.

HDR is controlled under the "Post effects" option.

So is it high = HDR, medium = bloom, and low = nothing? I am just guessing here.

i only tried high and low, on low it still looked like it had bloom but the sky was rather dull looking, so on high i'm not entirely sure if it really is HDR, or just a very high intensity bloom.

It's not.
You've seen the videos, from X360, the PC version, all that...

HDR is supposed to be really intense in this game. The lighting present in the game seems to be bloom.

Those screens look awesome. I cant wait to get home and download the demo. I just upgraded my computer to PCI-express with an x850xt.. I dont play on high resi's so im hoping to get some good eye candy.

This demo is terrible, even with everything on low and at 800x600 its still unplayable. My rig isn't terrible either 3000+, 1 gig, 6800. Something must be wrong with the demo.

same problem here, the demo feels like im playing in slow motion, and its not my rig since it plays everything else just fine

Oh jeez, is this going to turn out to another horrible console part, performance wise that is? Like what happened to Halo for PC?

I downloaded this morning and just got around to installing. On xp64 it segfaults immediately. I installed it on win2k and left everything on low as it said my gfx card wasnt supported. (fx5900 ultra) started up the game and I could see white sky and black everything else (at 5fps). I tried the latest driver beta just in case, no luck.

So if you have an fx series card or winxp 64 dont bother.

What??? No AA? Even if you force it???

I HATE playing games with no AA...... It just looks, consolish.

Is widescreen supported?

Waiting in line to download now.

um, no offense, but a 3000+ with a 6800 is pretty low end these days, especially if the 3000+ is running stock and the 6800 is a vanilla 6800 (not GT or Ultra), you're trying to play the latest game out on some pretty dated hardware

Is it me or judging on the SS posted and SS from 360, it doesn't come even close to 360... I know it's a demo only and not all features are enabled (let's hope) but it doesn't look like it's Mexico city.
