Same BSOD's with me! I didnt know what itw as till i replaced the RAM. I just sent in an RMA to newegg and ill see what batch I get.

who votes i replace him?

ninja, you got that right. i got yet another stick of ballistix today, from ccu (we traded sticks). it really is a shame that so many people seem to be turning their backs on what i think is one of the most reliable companies around. yes, the sticks are failing abnormally frequently, but i have yet to see one time where crucial has given anyone grief for a replacement, despite a lot of us pushing these sticks pretty far out of spec ;)

however.. i think crucial has some room to make the ballistix better.. something exciting may happen soon :D

Wow, if Ballistix was any better I'd be even more blown away. The speeds this stuff does considering it's price is insane. In the best possible way.

You're right about Crucial not giving anyone grief. Customer support is almost beyond belief. Some guy I spoke to recently had RMA'd about 5 pairs of PC4000 Ballistix, and Crucial just stuck with it until he got a good pair. Now he has done, and he swears he'll never buy another brand whilever there's this kind of support. It's quite refreshing to know such support exists.

Anywaaaays. I'm just here to report that my replacement memory is still working great, no problems at all yet. I know it could develop faults in time, but it's flawless right now. If only I could get a matched pair... I need a CL1113 to match my first stick, but a nice suprise is how well Ballistix seems to run with sticks bought separately. In my case, about a year apart (budget is tight).

Their customer service may be wonderful and all but who wants to continuously replace failing memory? I sent mine back to newegg for a refund, I don't have time for that game or money to repeatedly ship off defective crap and have a backup set of ram (that's otherwise just a $250 paperweight) handy for when they fail.

No one wants to RMA all the time, but are there any manufacturers who offer the same level of service? Not to my knowledge.

helps that they very rarely change ic's, and when they do, it's from micron to newer micron :D

a power outtage just claimed one of my sticks of ballistix!
I'm on the phone with crucial right now, requesting an RMA.

EDIT: just got off the phone with crucial, and they WILL NOT send me an advanced kit even if I give them my credit card number. damnit...

I'm done with crucial.

really now? try em again, there's no reason for them to reject you unless they want you to rma through the vendor you got em from

No they said, that since I didn't originally buy them from Crucial than i'm SOL.

That's really strange. Last summer I did an RMA, and when they asked whether I bought them from Crucial or not, I said no. The guy repled "it doesn't really matter" and asked me for information about the sticks and my address, etc. Sent the bad Ballistix stick into them, and they sent me an nice new stick.

PS - I have bought the stick from newegg

no they ARE replacing them, they just won't send me a kit first.
Like I was hoping that I could get a new kit, pop in my defective kit in that box, and ship the bad ones to them and keep the new ones.
So i wouldn't experience down time

Oh, I see. Yeah, I remember Seagate will advance ship a hard drive if yours fails under warranty. That's nice. sorry bout crucial not doing that...

ah, well since you're "done" with crucial, can i have the sticks? :p :D

haha, sure! ;)

Seriously though, I'm going to RMA them (shipping them off today), and going to be selling the sticks locally.
We had a deal on this board and were going to conclude it this week, but the damn power outtage took one ballistix with it. so once they get back from RMA they already have a buyer.

Now only to decide what ram to buy, was thinking of G.Skill 2GBHZ

well.. one concern i have is that if the board put a burn mark on the ram... are you sure the board still works too?

haha, just found out today that it doesn't!
DFI rma service is TERRIBLE!
you need to have original invoice(no problem) but they CHARGE you for the repairs..wtf !

too late to RMA through newegg.

just a Monster Surge Protector, and it didn't do jack.

yeah, a while back:

if you want exactly what he said..

Hi Mark-

Thanks for the note. I looked into it and found nothing out of the ordinary. We have not seen an increase in failed parts.

something tells me he was "muted" by some upper level guys or something. i'm getting stick of this myself, but i still <3 my ballistix.. so i dunno. i heard rumors that it was a pcb problem, but the double sided 512mb sticks use the exact same pcb as the 1gb sticks.. and mine's been going strong for 2 weeks now, at times with 3.1v..

ya, i think that's bull, there are a lot more dying than normal

but if they deem this as normal, maybe that's an indication of the quality of the product (not good)

well, it was from a while ago, perhaps before word got to the reps of how it was actually doing.. there's no question crucial is aware of what's going on, it's just a matter of:
a. the bad stuff going away
b. crucial saying something about it

Or maybe crucial already fixed them and are currently shipping out replacements to manufacturers? like when people RMA to crucial, theyll get out of the new batch, or RMA to newegg, theyll still get some of the new batch. Maybe to keep it on the downlow...who knows. I just hope my next stick doesnt die.

Newegg just got my RAM Thursday and shipped out a new one today from the Edison, NJ warehouse (I live in NJ) You rock Newegg! As far as the batch goes, Ill look at it and see when I get it.

not to bring up a dead thread but heres mine and they also get errors in memtest...

2x512mb ballistix tracer

BATCH: CL11159.5z

PN: 51252

, eclipse quik question. i did not buy these directly from crucial, can i still rma them through crucial?

definitly not a dead thread, but there's definitly a lot less guys with dead sticks these days, presumably because a lot less guys are using em :(

crucial should take your rma.. why can't you rma through the vendor you got them from?

cuz i got em off ebay for a really nice price :)

id like to stick with crucial but im thinking of upgradeing to 20x1gb and giveing my dad these

I've got a 1GB dual channel kit of PC-4000 Ballistix coming tomorrow from da egg. Hopefully they'll be good.

- JT

Eclipse, I just got mine from Newegg today....CL1115L.37 :( So far doesnt look good. Should I RMA through crucial? would i get a good batch or the same one? Has anyone RMA'd through crucial and gotten a batch that works? Or do they still give out bad sticks and think they're good?

and the issue is? the one guy with that batch seems to still have em ;)

almost every single batch is CL1115x.xx.. including my ballistix that i've give 3.2v to for a while, they're still going strong, almost into the 4th week now

Nothing just yet, but it falls into the batch numbers as stated on the front page. And a few guys posted on this thread saying the exact same batch number. I have boot up issues before and for some reason, when I put the ballistix in Slot A, I get BIOS error, but when in B, its fine. When i put in my friends DDR400 in slot A (all single channel), it works. I dont get it.

Just received a 2x512MB kit of PC-4000 Ballistix from NewEgg last night, batch = CL1115P.8Z. No problems out of the box so far.

- JT

danger, probably just a picky board? 1gb sticks aren't exactly "easy" to operate ;)

W6FO, are those single or double sided?

the sticks shown are double sided, not all of em are though. i presume you checked yours to find out. that's good though. 5b G is quite fun, i've given my sticks i got a while back (about 4 weeks now) 3.2v for a short amount of time, and 3.1v for a lot longer, with no obvious ill effect. just keep em cool ;)

One gripe I do have is that I didn't get the Ballistix stickers they proudly advertise. NBD but I like stickers damnit!

:p

- JT

yeah, i had that issue too. they stickers come from retail boxes. you must have purchased an oem set :(

hie. registered just to post in this thread :)

got my Z503's 3 days ago. CL1115Y.6K. 16TD's.

temps feel ok when idle. hotter than CPU on load. threw a 12cm fan over it just in case. running with my case open too.

performance wise... running 1:1 at 250 FSB doesn't seem to give any improvement over 5:6 KVR (2x512). :\

background: 3.0e prescott. MSI Neo2-V mobo.

Has this been affecting the Value stuff from back around late August, early September? I am starting to experience a lot of lockups/BSOD's in games, with nothing changed, even backing down my RAM to normal hasn't fixed it.

it shouldn't be, but it's not out of the question if the chips are at fault. can you give us a bit more detail on what you've tried and what's going on?
