Yea these hurricanes suck ass, I live in jax. You still in Cuba...er Miami?(Yeah I read it) Power was out for 2 and the internet was out for an additional 2 when Francis (I think) came through. so no folding for 4 days (Sorry guys). It was so quite in my room without my 6 computers running :(.

Here's some pics, the quality is horible but I'll be getting a new digital camera (Any suggestions).

My naked PII333 and my Pentium 200.

My other Pentium 200 and my 486DX2.

Spare Parts.

I'll post more and better pics later, these pics are kind of old and I've changed it a lot.

Wow, 102 year old pics... ;)
I didn't even notice that, lol :D. acctually they are about a year old. As far as the computers, they are about a 100 years old. Once I get my camera I'll post pics of my new rigs.

Here is dorm closet we did earlier this summer, not sure if i posted it or not, i have a couple more i think also, have to find the pics. But i know i have pics somewhere of a closet we had to totally rewire. That was a fun project, especially in the extremely small closets we were given for our data closets.

got a little messy on the left hand side but you work with what ya got, and small budgets suck :)

no return on the cascade?

As you can plainly see, I have a pig pile of spaghetti.
What you see from left to right
Far left hiding you can see my file server, a nice big RAID0 array with 1gig ethernet
Then my g5 (also 1gig), With the lost expansion slot cover, so TAPE!
Then we have the network
Cable modem vertical along side the g5.
Very top little switch are 10/100 boxes (they are on the other side of the g5)
Next thing down is a "Wireless signal booster" for my shitty .11b network with all .11g clents
Next we have a shitty ass router that has the 10/100 switch and the 10/100/1000 switch plugged into it
And at the bottom, my 10/100/1000 switch for my G5 and my file server

How cruel, duct tape on a beautiful G5 :( BTW, you forgot to mention the popsicle stick on the floor ;)

Actually, it looks like brown packing tape, and why bother to tape the expansion bay closed? the g5 is already one giant cheese grater, one more hole isnt going to hurt.

(offtopic) Hey sigmend, i just noticed your sig...
Imagine if you write a program that creates a 640X480 picture for every pixel combination possible.
I once started writing a java program to do just that. I never fully finished it, but it was fun to work on... After seeing your sig I might start that up again, the main problem is of course that there are SO many possibel pictures that to actually look through a usefull number of them would take far too long...

Shens on that.
The holes in the front are intakes, and there are similar holes in the back.
Its designed in the mind that those are the only intakes and outs of the system.
At one point I had it off, everything got really fucking dusty in there.
I havn't been monitoring the temps lately, but I know that it also throws off the cooling if I have that slot open...

There are a few problems with the idea.
1) It would take an insane amount of time to make all of them
2) Lots and lots of disk space would be required
3) How are you going to sift though all the images.

Other than those, its completely possible :p

Sounds like a good app for a cluster!

If you manipulate the pixels one a time, you could sample every say, 1000 images and then step through the changes in smaller increments to find just the perfect one. Have 6 or so systems with monitors stepping through 6 sets of images skipping every 1000, twice a second, and the then just sit back and interupt when you find an interesting pic, and step through the incarnations until you find the perfect one and set that aside. An image server directly connected to the net maybe? That would make great Slashdot bait though.

Cause the $40 Linksys in a box isn't exactly [H]ard now is it. :p
but why wast a good dual proc board man, you could always get a Via EPIA board and get the job done that way.

i will trade you my old dual pII rackmount box for that board :D
it will still route just fine!

seriously though....dont use that board for that...setup a server of some sort!

build the smallest computer you can find and use that for your router...or build a switch into some random device like a turkey sandwich and use it for a router...something like that :D

I tried to make my webserver out of a 286 once
shit

anyways
yeah dont use that board
pleeeeeeaase!!!

Duall PIII in a 1HE Supermirco Board & Chassis == [H]

EPIA ... not [H] at all ...

It's not being wasted ... the Router is the most important part of my network -> iNet connection :D

And i can re-configure it anytime i want ;)

While that is pretty [H].... it is somewhat of a waste of money and computing power.

Hell my server is a Via mini-itx board and it still averages less than 5% cpu usage.

look at what i got for $25

server3.jpg

A IBM Netfinity 4000r. Its got a P3 800mhz, 1 gig of ECC ram, 9.1 gig Ultra Scsi. The only thing it is missing is a power source. Im going to find one for cheap on ebay and toss in another couple of scsi drives along with another gig of ram not to mention another CPU. Not bad for $25. :p

not bad indeed... how did you score that? I don't have connections and i don't constantly look for deals like that, but i can never seem to find cheap or free stuff

A EPIA isn't exactly cheap ... the board/Cpu costs bout 130€ ... the i'd still need a case & PSU ... only an single RAM and PCI slot ... nope !

And bout computing power ... i'll slap in two PIII600 and underclock em to 66MHz FSB  ... and i still have two Celeron 400 PPGA, i'll try if those work in SMP on that board but i don't think they will ...

And now i have a Dell Poweredge 2500 Chassis :D 60€ (shipping included)

HUGE PICS : http://www.forumdeluxx.de/forum/showpost.php?p=1130326&postcount=158065

Bout that IBM 4000R, i've seen some of those on eBay too but i wouldn't want one of those cuz theres NO documentation bout em @ the IBM homepage ...

perhaps, but its very small, hardly requires any power and is very quiet. good qualities for an always-on server that doesn't need to do a lot of number crunching

New server that i got today from ebay
It has 2 pentium 3 500 mhz, 512 megs of ram, and 18 gig hard drive.

hahaha. it aint IDE, its SCSI.

I found it off craigslist.org. the guy that i got it from has a some more cool goodies in that price range. i might be seeing him real soon.

heh those ibm's are like the netengines machines, i would be suprised if that thing works

Finally got my home network documented and complete:

home_network.jpg

It may seem really busy, with a ton of components that aren't really needed, but I use this as a testing environment for work. It has two seperate networks that talk over the Cisco 26-something router and two Windows 2003 servers that are both acting as database hosts that share active directory duties. I have clients scattered along all the segments to test connectivity and replication.

Also can't forget the stub on the lower left that I hook up whenever the fellas come over for deathmatches. :D :D

wanna hook me up with this guy?.... seems like he sells good stuff dirt cheap

Here is the latest setup. Net connection will be upgraded by the end of the year with cable after I move. Can everyone see the pic? Port redirects are a pain in the ass.

netdiagnew2.jpeg

I changed it up. I can't see it now but eveyone else should be able to.
