    WD GreenPower temps.

What would be nice is a: Single platter ultra high density drive @ 500GB running at 5400 RPM and having 32MB Cache and a highly optimized NCQ seek algorithm. Soon that just may be a reality.

    WD GreenPower temps.

The amount of logic and calibration that would require the dynamic spinup and spin down from 5400 to 7200 would be quite a feat. Not to mention it would put strain on the motor.

    WD GreenPower temps.

To be honest, the way I see it. Have a small fast drive for boot and have a big (reliable) drive to everything else. The GP would fit that bill.

    Who makes > 1TB drives?

Who knows, With the amount of HDD's they buy, every manufacturer probably has a dedicated production line just for google. What would be damn interesting is that if Google divulged reliability stats for different manufacturers and models.

Difference between RAID 1+0 and RAID 10E?

RAID 10E is a proprietary standard from IBM. Our IBM servers at work have it and we use it. It's essentially RAID 10 with some additions. It's controller dependent and not a standard (AFAIK)

looking for the best laptop hd

No real thing as the best. Just stick to a brand that you are comfortable with. I've used Hitachi, WD, Seagate and Samsung. The Hitachi and Seagate have failed while as the WD and Samsung are still running. They are all roughly the same age. That being said, I would buy a Hitachi...

    Who makes > 1TB drives?

They were sold out the same day probably because Google bought them all for their datacenters :)

    Cloning hardrive software

I use Acronis all the time and it's a lifesaver!! Cloning 250GB Laptop drives is a PITA though. Takes 3 hours or so.

Fastest RAID Config with Striping & Parity

At work, the enterprise monitoring solution software we deploy needs super fast disk access. We only and only use RAID 10. Which is Raid 1+0 If you can go for it, do RAID 10. Or else RAID 5.

    WD GreenPower temps.

I just bought my first green power drive yesterday. It's a 500 gig model. Attached have a look at my HP Media Smart Server screenshot and the corresponding drive temps. The Seagate 7200.10 is a beast when it comes to heat. One interesting thing to note. When I inserted the WD GP drive, WHS...

    Quick question about the SG31G2

That's a thought, I would like to keep this as cheap as possible for the time being, since this will be basically used for just surfing, e-mails, picasa and torrents. But at the same time I would like to keep some avenues open for future upgradability. I'll check it out and see how it...

    Quick question about the SG31G2

The prices seem high because: 1. I am purchasing through Amazon. I can't purchase through anywhere else since 99% of the sites need an American credit card and I don't live in the good old USA. 2. I've rounded some numbers up and have added shipping costs where possible. That being said, I...

    Quick question about the SG31G2

You're right, I'm looking and something wrong. Anyway, check this out. http://us.shuttle.com/P2_3800W_4.aspx It supports the XEON 3210. Now I just need to find out what chassis is being used and I'm good to go.
