I'm having trouble finding any thrift-type store that have receivers. Best option I could find so far was a Sherwood receiver for $89 at Radio Shack (somewhere along the lines of 8 ohms and 100W)

Ahh i see. I think i will try the thrift store route because I got the idea of putting my LCD monitor on top of a 17" component (unless it is not recommended).
Can you help me with what specs I should be looking for in the receiver? Should I be looking at components with 8 ohm resistance...
