Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I have a Dell Dimension 8100. It shipped with windows ME, and I upgraded it to WinXp (upgrade disc shipped by Dell). Now, 7 years later, I need to reformat the hard drive (its time) and reinstall XP. I have a Windows ME "Reinstallation CD". This is a CD with a Dell logo on it. I also have the...
I got it to work this time - had to reboot between driver uninstall/catalyst software uninstall and then install new catalyst package. I didn't realize about the version number - thanks for the info.
I'm new to ATI. Built this new computer, thought I had updated the drivers a month ago to 9.1. But when I went to update to 9.2 today, driver version says 8.53. Anyway, I uninstalled the current driver, then installed the latest catalyst 9.2. After the updates run and rebooting, system info...
Far Cry 2 was a huge disappointment for me, at least multiplayer was. I don't play single player, so I can't comment on that. Multiplayer gameplay is crude at best. Graphics are beautiful, though, but who plays just for the graphics?
Thanks tiraides. Am I right in thinking I will need the faster ram if I end up going with the e8400?
Also, the Visiontek 4850 is out of stock at newegg. Is Sapphire an ok replacement? Should I consider going with one of the 1gig models?
I posted this 4 or 5 months ago, but then had to delay my order. Now, I'm ready to go again. I'm really excited about this - my current rig is almost 8 years old, so I could pretty much build a chunk of lead and it would be a heck of a lot faster. I live in Nashville - no Fry's, only best buy...
Thanks very much for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I just found out that I failed part of my licensure exam, so my $700 has to go to retaking that. That puts my purchase off until the first of the year, so I'll re-research at that time. I did decide that chances are slim that I will ever do...
I've switched out the Gskill DDR2 800 for the Gskill DDR2 1000 for +$10.
I would love to go for the 4870, but right now my budget won't accomodate it. Not planning on playing Crysis.
Added the Samsung SH-S223F dvd burner.
Will have to wait on the cpu cooler.
Added Vista Home Premium...
I'm thinking about returning the Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650W and getting the Corsair 750W TX750W instead, since I can get it cheaper than I paid for the 650.
This is my first build. I've changed out graphics cards, fans, hdd's before. I'm more afraid of software related stuff (bios flash, what's that?) than the hardware. Budget is ~$700
This is going to be a gaming machine primarily, but it will also be doing some video and music processing...
I'm a card-carrying noob. I'm trying to determine what psu I need for my first build, but I'm having trouble deciphering some of the psu jargon. I know this is a lot of questions, but help with any one or all would be greatly appreciated.
1. What components run on the 3 available rails? I...
I have a 360, don't really like it. I'm a hard core pc man.
I can definitely use the hard and optical drives from my 8100 and upgrade them a little later. Someone is going to give me their old 512 MB X1800XT card (not sure how much of a slouch this is compared to the 8800gts). So that...
