There are two 2407s, and two 2408s, so no they are not the same model, but close enough for any combination of three of them will do eyefinity without an issue. Four of them will do the 1x4 or 2x2 arrangement, but not the 4x1.

Finally found the issue. "FixCamera.exe" was running, and apparently that stops all VMware software from working, including installation software. Strange.
Disabled fixcamera and install went right on through.
