Real-Time Ray Tracing Support Comes to GeForce GTX GPUs and Game Engines

Be careful mods deleted my comment yesterday when I brought up all the anti-Nvidia conspiracies flying around these forums with regard to ray tracing.

JPR Releases New GPU Market Share Statistics

While AMD is the front runner for consoles, I wouldn't count Nvidia or Intel out. Nvidia proved with the switch they are still around even with ARM cpus. And who knows what Intel has up their sleeves. I still think a discreet GPU can work in the console market.

JPR Releases New GPU Market Share Statistics

Guess the crypto bubble hit AMD even harder in 2018. We could use some fresh legs in this race. Any new companies out there who could enter the GPU market?

Oldie but goodie: Pixar paper on why they used ray tracing in the movie Cars

I used to enjoy reading Carmack's discussions on the lighting tricks that ID Software came up with for games like Doom3. This paper brought back some memories.

Reading the paper would be a great first step towards understanding the benefits of ray tracing. You should give it a whirl.

Oldie but goodie: Pixar paper on why they used ray tracing in the movie Cars

Great read for those of you who are interested in the benefits of ray tracing. They discuss their use of traditional techniques such as environment maps with and without ray tracing. Enjoy! https://graphics.pixar.com/library/RayTracingCars/paper.pdf

Mimicking RTX Global Illumination with Traditional Graphics Techniques

Yep. Developers over the years have had to invent alot of different ways to somewhat correctly illuminate an object. They're more tricks than techniques. Pixar has a great paper on why they used ray tracing for the movie Cars which can be found here...

Mimicking RTX Global Illumination with Traditional Graphics Techniques

At hardocp, amd is the fan favorite so anything from nvidia tends to get stigmatized as more devious acts from the "evil empire".

Nvidia is Publishing a Book on Raytracing

I remember when anti aliasing started being implemented and the graphics horsepower it required. Hardocp viewers are a different breed as Nvidia has been demonized as the scourge of the earth while AMD is the white knight who will come to save the day. The young kids who have invested themselves...

Nvidia is Publishing a Book on Raytracing

A And my xfx 580 laughs right back at you. Muhaha! By the way 81 pages is nothing when it comes to using ray tracing rendering.

    SoftBank Dumped Its NVIDIA Stock

Uhmmm....no. The 1080ti doesn't have tensor cores. I'm willing to bet you dislike Nvidia more than you understand the 2080 architecture.

    SoftBank Dumped Its NVIDIA Stock

Ya because Nvidia's 5000000% growth under him is a good reason to fire him......
