Upgrade or wait to build a new system

I normally just build a new system every 2-3 years, but the core2duo has remained so viable that I'm thinking of just upgrading my existing system. Here's my current build (from may 2007): core2duo e6550 Asus P5B Deluxe/Wifi-AP - this is a P965 motherboard 2 gig corsair xms2 2gb...

Different temps from different programs. what should I believe?

I just cleaned up the hsf and cpu a couple of hours ago, then reapplied thermal grease and reattached the hsf. Would I need to go through all of that again to reattache the hsf outside the case, or would it be ok to just leave them in contact and secure the clips better? Thanks again for the help.

Different temps from different programs. what should I believe?

Can anyone think of why there would be such a disparity between the temp on coretemp and the temp from TAT? I understand that TAT was written for the Pentium M, but it was basically identical (maybe a couple of degrees warmer) in reporting on my E6600.

Different temps from different programs. what should I believe?

Ambient temp is about 20 C. I have the stock cooler, and I fit it inside the case. I suspect I may need to refit it before OCing. I have an antec P180B, with all three fans set to low, which was giving adequete airflow to cool me E6600 @ 3.0ghz for 6 months without a problem in a higher...

Different temps from different programs. what should I believe?

I'm running the latest version of all three programs. Idling, Coretemp is displaying 44/43 degrees, TAT is 32/31, and speed fan is 29/27. At 100% load, Coretemp is 66/66, TAT is 51/48, and speedfan is 52/52. Idling at 788mhz, Coretemp shows 49/47, TAT shows 34/32, and Speedfan shows 33/32...

Different temps from different programs. what should I believe?

Well, Coretemp is telling me the tjunc is 100, and it seems to be about 15 degrees off from TAT and speedfan. since 100 is 15 degrees higher than the 85 degree tjunc that the 1066mhz fsb c2d's I'm wondering if that could be the issue. Doesn't it seem more likely that TAT would be correct...

Different temps from different programs. what should I believe?

I'm now running an e6550 on an asus pb5 deluxe wifi/ap. I am running the cpu at stock speed, and I'm seeing very different temperatures from speedfan, TAT, and core temp. Core temp is telling me that both cores idle at 45-50, and loading at about 70. Speedfan and TAM are both reporting idle...

My e6600 hit over 113 degrees. What can I do?

These temps were from core temp. I have been running core temp, TAM, and speedfan in conjunction for a while, and if anything, core temp outputs the lowest temp of the three programs. I know the temperature seems outrageous, but there is no reason to suspect that the reading is inaccurate...

My e6600 hit over 113 degrees. What can I do?

I forgot about that video too. When I first saw it, I was a devoted AMD user, and it made me sad. Who would have guessed that now it could be a relief to see it, lol.

My e6600 hit over 113 degrees. What can I do?

That's a good idea. Man, I haven't had to set a shut down temp since my Cyrix 686. . . Why on earth did Intel go with these terrible tension screws to hold the hsf on? I don't think I've ever hated any computer component more in my life than these stupid stock hsfs. . .

My e6600 hit over 113 degrees. What can I do?

I shut the machine off myself. When I saw the temps in the tray, i just hit the power button. I didn't even want to wait for windows to shut down at those kinds of temps. It seemed to work find into the boot, just slower. Would the processor have throttled itself enough to prevent damage? I...

My e6600 hit over 113 degrees. What can I do?

I moved my machine today, and unbeknownst to me, the stupid retention clips on the stock hsf came loose, and the hsf lost contact with the cpu. Before I realized this happened, I booted the machine into vista and had core temp report temperatures of 113 degrees celcius and higher. Needless to...

    Are my temps alright?

I have an e6600, which is recording upper 30's idle and low to high 50's at 100% load in TAM. Overclocked to 3.0ghz, my idle temperatures have been in the mid 50's, and load in the mid to high 60's. OC'ed to 3.6ghz, the load temperature was breaking 80. I've been running the machine at...

Bump. I'd really appreciate some more feedback before ordering.

    Advice/Opinions on my new build

I'm going to be building a new machine, mainly for gaming. I'd like advice on all of the parts I've selected. Thanks for any input. Power Supply: I got an Ultra X-Finity 600w power supply for free from fry's. Thats the only component I'm relatively "locked into" Case: Antec p180...
