    locking down a user account

Shared accounts are a bad idea to begin with. If you are on a domain, why didn't you create the separate users and just give them same rights? Regardless in the Account tab of the user you click the "Log On To" button and then you setup which machines the account can login to.

    Pick you flavor

<sarcasm> My choice is ISA 2006 FTW! </sarcasm> At work we run a smoothie, at home I have an Endian Setup. For non-home use I would stay away from a homebrew setup. I would go with anything that has paid support so when your customer's setup is messed up and you can't figure out what's...

creating a large, multiroom 200 person network... help!

Pretty ambitious task. Personally I would use either a smoothwall or an endian firewall at the WAN link. I would try to keep my proprietary machines down to a minimum. I would get a pre-built server from a big reseller ( Dell, HP, etc) running Server 2003 and make that the domain controller...

    Apple Certs

My boss will probably laugh if I try to get them to pay for it. We have around 12 techs here. Everyone turns to me for quick help whenever we have a Mac issue and I just figured if I'm going to be giving advice I'd better know what I'm talking about. I actually want to get a couple different...

Debian + ipcop virtual machine question

In my testing a virtual firewall appliance yielded terrible results. Check specs below my main rig isn't very powerful but your mileage may very. Also check this out http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1232873&highlight=firewalls As far as porting over the Smoothie WebGui to your...

LAN Games - Vista & XP?

Here is how I would approach this situation. Disable the firewall service on both machines. Turning off the firewall doesn't always work. Start > Run > services.msc Windows XP Disable "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" Vista Disable "Windows Firewall" What you...

The Final Thread: The best free Anti-Virus?

I mainly use linux distros: CentOS for my servers, Fedora or OpenSuSe boxes for Workstations but I have a few Windows based machines on my network, XP, Vista and Server 2003 to be exact. Honestly the best solution is not to use client-side software. Set yourself up a nice Endian FW running a...

    main rig not accesible

Like DBWillis said try that. You can always ping by IP and Hostname. Hostname can be useful if you don't know the IP.
