looking for something to max out pcie4 with nvme drives for my new machine. Any card recommendations?

anyone recommend a good battery backed up pcie3.x card for nvme storage? I'm trying to use it on a home server rack s2d use case and need something battery backed up or persistent for it to use full caching modes.

I'm trying to find a server motherboard that has hardware raid supporting hardware SAS 12gbs and FDR infiniband. Since these are somewhat obscure specs, newegg isn't helping at all. Anyone recommend a board that can do these things? I know it will cost probably in the $1k range, but its what...

a lot are using zfs but TBH IMO nothing beats a solid hardware raid controller. I use mostly raid 1+0 and the performance of the system vs ZFS is significantly better for waht I do with virtual machines. I mostly still use the old 3ware 9750-8i cards with pure SAS drives.

looking to throw together a cheap SAN that has maybe 6 to 10tb of space with perhaps 2tb of SSD on a tier'd storage level. Any recommendations on builds and storage to buy?

so just an update. I bought another 9750 card and an identical server to the one I have because I was able to at least get this one working. It still says the device manager doesn't recognize it but it works really well so far. All of the benchmarks I've run on it have come up top so I guess...

found some drivers for 2012. Going to try those. Looks like 3ware got bought by lsi... then they got bought by broadcom. Found some old drivers on the broadcom site.

i have the 6bit version of both and I have issues. so....

server 2016 doesn't recognize my lsi 9750 even though it sorta works (sorta not as it blue screens here and there). Anyone have success with any drivers for this or do I just need to buy a new card? Its on a server I got on ebay and hooked through SAS to 12 hot swap SATA bays.

I'm thinking about upgrading my home network to 10g so I can move the vm's and such around (I do a lot of programming for clients and have tons of vm's running). It looks like dlink has some pretty reasonable 10g switches that use cat6 ethernet cables. Any recommendations in this space?

Thats very little storage for what you are going to be doing. If I were you I'd pick up a 1tb regular SSD for your most frequently used vms.
