I'm confused ...
I cannot find these PCI IDs in the mapping files of ESXi 5.1. Are you sure that this controller worked with ESXi 5.1 before? Or were you just passing it through to a VM?
If it worked before then I guess it used the generic ahci driver. But this can of course only work if...
Hi kalex1114,
can you please post the PCI ID of the asmedia controller?
Please run "lspci -v" in an ESXi shell and paste the output here.
I can then look at what ESXi 5.1 driver we would need in ESXi 5.5 to make it work.
Thanks
Andreas
Hi all,
I have created an Offline Bundle that installs the ProFTPD FTP server on ESXi 5.x and enables you to transfer files from and to ESXi hosts using an FTP client. Detailed information is available here: http://proftpd.v-front.de/.
Please note: I am aware of that there are other ways...
Just to follow up here:
- ESXi-Customizer does also work with ESXi 5.1.
- When adding tgz files you might need to choose the option "Force repacking" with some packages (this will prevent a "Boot image corrupt" message when trying to install later). This includes Chilly's e1001e.tgz file!
Hi all,
I have posted a short guide for updating your ESXi 5.0 whitebox to ESXi 5.1 while preserving any community supported / non-VMware drivers:
http://v-front.blogspot.de/2012/09/how-to-update-your-free-whitebox-esxi.html
It looks like drivers compiled for ESXi 5.0 still work in ESXi...
Just posted part 1 of the series about Basic setup, Networking and Security:

Have fun!

Hi all,
I have started a series of blog posts describing a reference architecture for an all-in-one-box hosted virtual lab solution. I have called it the SBHVL (Small Budget Hosted Virtual Lab) project. If you are interested in this sort of thing then please read the introduction post and...
Is this the system disk (the one that ESXi is installed on) that you are trying to expand?
You cannot do this from the GUI then, but only from the console.
See here for instructions:

Hi all,
I just published a new version of the ESXi-Customizer script.
ESXi-Customizer is a Windows-only script for customizing the ESXi installation CD with community-developed drivers that are available in OEM.tgz format.
It supports ESXi 4.1 and 5.0. With ESXi 5.0 also VIB files and...
Hi all,
I just released the first version of my ESXi5 Community Packaging Tools. These are two scripts:
tgz2vib5.cmd (to convert a TGZ file to a VIB file, formerly included with ESXi-Customizer)
vib2zip.cmd (to combine one or more VIB files into an Offline Bundle ZIP)
These scripts can...
My test setup is currently a VM with FC-backed virtual disks that the QUADStor software exports via iSCSI (and yes, it uses a modified version of IET for that). See my blog post for details.
I compare against an Openfiler VM that runs in the same environment. Both perform very similar and reach...
Hi all,
the QUADStor software is a storage virtualization stack that delivers thin provisioning, deduplication, compression and VAAI support(!) for free.
I have written a detailed article on my blog about the software, and I am currently evaluating it as a storage solution for VMware...
This error message is typically thrown by ESXi 4.1 when no compatible network adapter can be found. Why don't you try ESXi 5.0? Network support has become better and even if your NIC is not supported out-of-the-box you might be lucky and find a community supported driver at...
