QUADStor evaluation thread

Hi all,

the QUADStor software is a storage virtualization stack that delivers thin provisioning, deduplication, compression and VAAI support(!) for free.

I have written a detailed article on my blog about the software, and I am currently evaluating it as a storage solution for VMware vSphere.

With this thread I want to
a) make more people aware of this solution, and
b) offer an opportunity for new and existing QUADStor users to share their experience and questions.

So, has anyone here already tried this software and/or is actually using it?

Thanks for your comments

Great technology and writeup--I would love to build a home lab to test this out.

Do you have any performance benchmarks against top-tier hardware (EMC, NetApp, etc)?

My test setup is currently a VM with FC-backed virtual disks that the QUADStor software exports via iSCSI (and yes, it uses a modified version of IET for that). See my blog post for details.

I compare against an Openfiler VM that runs in the same environment. Both perform very similar and reach 350 MB/s write and 450 MB/s read speed over 10Gb Ethernet (measured in a VM that runs on the ESXi hosted iSCSI datastore).

With our EMC boxes we use FC only, so to compare against them I would need a real hardware box with Qlogic FC adapters to run QUADStor on (which I have not available).
