Well, seeing all these higher total scores is nice but I think the OP and myself know there are tons of PCs that beat our scores. It does nothing to offer a opinion or answer the question of OP of whether the elevated CPU & Total Scores in 3DMark06 translate into a better Gaming experiance...
I have often wondered this myself, is the total score in 06 more important in Gaming or the Graphics scores? I've noticed comparing my Volt-Modded, O/Ced 7900GT with stock single core cpu on the ORB that cards with lesser SM 2.0 and SM 3.0 scores than mine but with Dual-Core CPUs are often...
Make the move now and do a complete upgrade to your current rig. Get a 939 Board, a X2 3800+ and a 7900GTO 512MB. All of them are at great prices right now. You will be set for quite a while and everything should O/C well.
With the new 7900GTO out now at under $250, and it's basically a GTX with the same 512MB and Core but with lower clocked memory. It would be a better upgrade card for you than either of those two cards. Just my 2 cents.
fam,
You will have a much harder time increasing your Total Score in 3DMark06. You have the same problem that I have = Single Core CPU. 06 gives much lower CPU scores to single cores(even O/Ced ones) than to Dual Cores. It doesn't seem to effect the SM2.0 & SM 3.0 Graphics scores...
Yep! Can't beat them Core2Duos. I can't quite make 10,000 CPU score with my stock Single Core. Guess I could be up there too with one. Nice scores guys!
Afraid I can't help with such a slow Single Core CPU and that Site has been down for quite a while now for Compares. But I only get in the 80,000s and a GFX score in the 14,000s with I think a faster card. Maybe you could post your GFX score so people with a 7600GT can compare.

Either that or increase that Volt Mod. to 1.4 so you can run 700MHz Core if the memory won't O/C any higher.
Nice score with the GS, fam!
Here is a 5.25" bay one out right now that looks like decent quality and would do the trick for a single one of those new cards.

Brahmzy,
Sorry about that, I didn't know the 7900GTO wasn't on the Step-Up list yet. Maybe you could do something like MrMeikel is planning. Step-Up to the 7950GT 512MB (if it's on the list) so as to lock yourself into your 90 day window. It more than likely has a waiting queue and you can...
You could Step-Up to the new 7900GTO 512MB for $30 +shipping since it's now on the eVGA website for $299.99. It's basically a Double Slot 7900GTX with the same 650MHz Core and Cooler but with lower clocked memory. Looks like Nvidia is trying to get rid of it's remaining G71 Cores before...
Well I'm not trying to influence your decision because I think you will be better off with the X1900XT too. But I do have a 7900GT with a Zalman VF900-CU and Volt Modded to 1.4 GTX Specs. It does reach GTX clocks and sometime power after the Mod. which is very easy with a conductive pen...
The MB Compatibility list on Nvidia website list a GigaByte GA-965P board but it is a DQ6. Don't know if that makes any difference.
