My current system:
Abit kv8-pro s-754
Athlon 64 3400
BFG 68000c agp
1gig geil ram
OCZ 450watt Modstream 26amps on 12 volt rail.

I was thinking of just upgrading my video card to a bfg 7800gs card but after looking at some of the pci express cards I can get a better price and performance.

Would it be better to upgrade my motherboard to a s-745 with pci express then grab a 7900gt? Do you think I need to upgrade my cpu to just game? I have a 21" crt and I set my resolution at 1152x864. I try to upgrade around every 2 years. I would think that this setup would play just fine until I bought a whole new system. By then it's hard telling what will be out!!

Make the move now and do a complete upgrade to your current rig. Get a 939 Board, a X2 3800+ and a 7900GTO 512MB. All of them are at great prices right now. You will be set for quite a while and everything should O/C well.

I agree that you should do a complete upgrade. It would be a waste to buy another S754 board with PCIe. But I think if you are going to upgrade your entire system (Mobo, CPU, ram, and video) you should go with a Core 2 Duo setup for best performance, I wouldn't start investing in S939 now (unless you get a good deal or pick up some cheap used gear).

I agree with the video part, but i say find a decent AM2 board as opposed to a 939 because that will give you better longevity
