I currently have the Silverstone Strider Plus 500W but I feel a bit uncomfortable since my rig consists of 2 hard drives, 1 SSD, an i5 2500 + GTX 560Ti 448 core (just upgraded from GTX 460).
The story goes:
With the GTX 460 in, everything was great. But now with the 560Ti, the PSU (or...
Don't say that! The truth is unbearable =( I just purchased an itx board and an i5 2500.
You make excellent points. But for many of us, the wait is too difficult. ;) Isn't 20% performance boost being unrealistically optimistic, though?
Psst not you too!
I can't use that board with an AM2+ chip =P
Just an update:
I went through with the order:
Lian Li Q08
i5 2500
Gigabyte GA-H67N-USB3-B3
8gb Mushkin Enhanced Silverline DDR3 1333 (I chose this 'cause it had heatsinks for the same price as the Gskill value ram)...
I owned the HD555's before and share the same experience, zero bass, even after 40 hour break in. I now own the beyerdynamic DT880's and the Denon D2000's and am infinitely more satisfied (though it also required me to get a real headphone amp and a dedicated dac).
I've had a few days to think my build over so far, and an option that came to mind was the Silverstone SG05 450w. It has a smaller footprint and people have noted that it was easier to build in this case compared to the Q08. I will also save a fair bit of money not needing to invest in another...
@bastage: That's a really great idea, but are there any mITX 880g boards you recommend that wouldn't use SODIMMs? 240 pin just feels much easier to buy and resell and look for.
@DesertCat: I see, the PSU looks promising from the review still =]

To be honest, I never even thought of...
Much thanks for the help!
@DesertCat: I read every page on the thread and it has been tremendously helpful. Thanks for the direction!
I'm almost positive I would be infinitely more happy ditching my 600w OCZ PSU and going for a shorter one, such as the Silverstone Strider 500w PSU, which...
I'm looking for a (preferably modular) PSU in the 500-700 watt range that does not exceed 150 mm in depth. It still needs to be a standard ATX, but the case I'm putting it in is the Lian Li Q08, and reviews I have read say that a power supply that is 160mm or longer will bump into the hard...
I see. I was almost set on the first suggestion, but after looking at the mITX case you pointed me to (the PC-Q08B, not the 11B), I was instantly sold. It is drop dead gorgeous, and somehow only $100 CAD! I also get the feeling that I'll ''drop dead'' after dealing with such a case. I've...
Thanks for the suggestion! An interesting first build option--but when you say I will save a fair bit of money getting a non-k version, I'm slightly confused. The i5 2500 is $210, but the i5 2500k is $220 (At newegg.ca and ++++). With those prices in mind do you think it might be silly to not...
1. What will you be doing with this PC?
Gaming (specifically Starcraft 2 and nothing more) and web browsing mostly. It will also be for school work. I plan on using two 24'' monitors on this setup too,
2. What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included in this budget?
$550...
