Dont try to mod them, your chances of success are minimal. The heat pipes are depressurized and have a vary small amount of water in them. If the heat pipe is cracked, it will not longer work.
It uses two 512MB 400MHz standard notebook SODIMM modules. I would recommend upgrading to 2GB and turning memory paging off for improved performance for your application.
I would suggest you look into the Olympus FE-310. It's 8MP and has 5X optical zoom. I've seen it on sale for $90. But $110 or so it typical. 1GB SD is <$10.

The issue may be in the IP stack rather than ethernet. For fun, on the desktop strart > run > cmd > ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew and then rerun the line quality test.
I purchased my P5Q-Pro when it was launched so I'm pretty sure it was not a return. My static bag was not sealed but I didn't notice any finger prints or residue on the MB. Were your cd's sealed in their envelopes?
Actual 30MBs on the write will be tough. I own a Memina Rocket which is very fast. But suggest you also look into the Corsair Flash Survivor GT and the Patriot Extreme Xporter XT Boost.
