I've noticed the same few times. Restarting Afterburner fixed it. Monitoring graphs bug the same way. Again, restart fixes it. Seems a small bug in the afterburner.
Nice review. I am sitting here with 920 @ 3,8GHz on Asus P6X58 Deluxe mb which have 2x sata6 and 2x usb3. So for those I dont need the upgrade. Performance increases from Sandy -> Ivy -> Haswell are really disappointing but I am still leaning towards upgrading to Haswell now. Z87 mb's look nice...
I had 7970 DCII with similar issues on 1440p CrossOver monitor. I tried different DL-DVI cables. Some worked better and some worse but I couldn't get rid of the issue totally. So I had to return the card with refund as at that time there was no known fix and other users reported similar issues...

In open case vapor-x's (just as reference because then the air flow is similar in each case) gpu stays at 65C and vrm 75C under Unigine Heaven bench. Clearly there was some bad patch. Maybe they forgot heat tapes between vrm heat sinks.

I've 7950 vapor-x and the default non boost bios with 850MHz clock was unusable because the gpu voltage raised under stress up to 1.25 which caused overheating and driver reset.

Just installed my 7950 vapor-x and have to say I am disappointed at the noise and the heat. Unigine Heaven run raises the temps to 85C when the whole system crashes and fan blows at 70% which makes really nasty noise.. not sure whats up with the card. I've not even used the overclock button...

I am thinking that there are slight differences on the board itself. Mainly on the controller chip which might be different on voltage locked cards. This would explain why voltage reading or changing it with afterburner doesn't work for these cards. If that's true then different bios wouldn't...
Only programs that can even read the gpu voltage are gpu-z and asus gpu tweak. I doubt the gpu-z even reads the voltage really as it is just constant 1.170v without any fluctuation under load. Asus gpu tweak shows 1.142v-1-162v under load (furmark). I can lower the voltage from gpu tweak but not...
