Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Yes on CUDA... budget is not a major consideration, just want value for my money... will be carrying this around campus from time to time, so don't want a boat anchor.
Looking for recommendations on a state-of-the-art laptop to play the more hardware-challenging games and also professional-level video editing and production (i.e Adobe After Effects & Premier).
Yep, he's a film school student, so the best video editing/rendering will be important to him, although by the time he's doing heavy-duty stuff we will have progressed a couple of generations in hardware!
Since I haven't been keeping up with the latest Intel offerings, I don't know much about their current chips. Why are you recommending the i5-2500k as opposed to the i7-2600k? Am I just a victim of their marketing scheme, or is the higher number a better chip?
I've built eight or ten gaming rigs over the last 15 years, but have been out of touch with state of the art for last 2-3 years. Son's gaming rig died (mobo) and I'll be building a replacement with more up-to-date components. Current set-up is:
ASUS P5QL
E8400 (not o/c'ed)
OCZ 6400 2x2GB...
Sorry guys, been awhile since I've engaged on the forums and forgot the protocol...
Budget... not an issue, just want value for my investment.

17-year-old son's gaming rig... see specs in sig. Monitor is a 22" LG HDTV @ 1680x1050. No plans to upgrade anything in the near term. I haven't been keeping up with video tech since builiding this rig several years ago. What's a good replacement card for the 9800GTX? Will probably pick one...
My son is taking a series of video production courses and wants a laptop for his birthday to use for his video work. Must be a Windows machine for compatibility. What would be the features I should be looking for?
I know Corsair rocks... look at my sig! This is my 9th self-built machine and every machine since number 5 has had Corsair sticks in it. I'm definitely a fan!
I unistalled the HD Audio Deck and it borked my Realtek LAN driver!! I had to totally reinstall all of the motherboard drivers to get my LAN driver back!! Now I have to live with that dorky HD Audio app!!
Actually, it was a good experience for him. He is 14 and starting to get more interested in the hardware aspect of computers (he's been a gamer since he was about 6!). He went through the whole troubleshooting process with me and he guessed it was the mobo before I did. He also helped...
