New PC, swap HDD with SSD?

Thanks all! Completed a backup then switched drives, powered on and everything went smooth - had to install new network drivers to get online though. If anyone's trying to upgrade this way, it can be done, just get network drivers before the swap ;)

New PC, swap HDD with SSD?

TheSoldier, good idea, thanks! Was planning on adding a secondary HDD to the SDD since it's limited space.

New PC, swap HDD with SSD?

Hi, I'm currently using a Dell desktop with Win7 on a SSD drive. I got a new desktop PC, also Dell, and was wondering if I could just swap the new HDD with my already installed and customized Win7 SSD from the old system? Does it work as simple as that or do I have to reinstall and tweak...

Dual Boot nuked by a possible virus

j-sta, thanks a lot anyway! Something changed and now I get this message after copying those some other folders, basically the whole windows\boot from Win7 partition: "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"

Dual Boot nuked by a possible virus

Yes, but I don't get that option at all, it only tells me boot is missing and have to restart.

Dual Boot nuked by a possible virus

Hi, On a dual boot system, still testing the waters with Win7 so the configuration is as follows: C: WinXP D: Win7 Primary partition is C and its Boot folder was located in C. The problem is that somehow the whole C:\Boot was deleted, I'm guessing a virus cleanup gone wrong. System...

    PushPin Cooler dilema

Thanks for clarifying that technical detail, I wondered why some heatsinks had a round base while the cpu itself is of different shape. Now, another issue while reading some posts in this forum, is the fact that the Core 1 and 2 are showing a big gap difference in temperature pose any reason...

    PushPin Cooler dilema

Sirmonkey1985, thanks, I managed to buy separate screws which turned out to be Metric M3 with a thread pitch of .5. With your advice and a plier I cut the pus-in pins from the new cooler and installed it that way using small washers as spacers to hold them in place. Cyclone3d, The older E2180...

    PushPin Cooler dilema

Hey there, Bought a CPU to upgrade the aging Intel E2180, socket 775 and it seems I can't use the newer CPU Cooler since the locking mechanism is different than the one currently in use. The problem, I guess, is that the motherboard is a Dell customized, made by Foxcon model 0RY007...

    Samsung P2370L

Same here, waited quite a while for the P2370L and decided to go with the Dell G2410 instead. Couldn't be happier also because I realized I couldn't have used a Glossy screen in my location (extreme ambient light) and the Dell one is Matte.

    Dell G series with LED

Belzebutt, the taskbar bugged me on WinXP too, it was just not the right color I've been used to with previous monitor and it looked just awful on the TN panel. Somehow I managed to change it to MS Luna Royal Style that has a dual tone effect as seen here, it's much better now but doesn't...

    Dell G series with LED

SignalPST, I remember testing it for the noise as well, especially since I had a Samsung monitor once and everytime a bright image, like a word editing instance, was present, there was a buzzing sound coming from the lower back part of the unit. I maximized a notepad window and put my ear to the...

    Dell G series with LED

Was looking to upgrade, as noted in another thread, a quite old non-TN 4:3 19" Sceptre monitor. I had no Dell stores around here to cary the G line and from online pics couldn't make up my mind so I took in the specs, went out and compared with something similar. Most important was dot pitch...

LCD cleaners - what do you use?

Pretty much buy those indivually packed cleaners and stay away from those bucket dispensers, once you get one out, the rest will dry very quickly and as MrkXCeL pointed out, you rarely need them to clean the LCD since it's not a static dust trap like CRT used to be ;)
